the eclectic restaurant prides itself on its relationship with the many vendors in the area and supporting the local community no matter their taste or preference. the restaurant’s slogan is “innovative southern fare for omnivores, herbivores, locavores,” and this remains throughout the menu. no matter if you are vegetarian, vegan or even gluten intolerant, the restaurant has something to accommodate any guest.

incredible food! we ate here for dinner while vacationing in st. augustine and it was our favorite restaurant. i had the fgt hoagie with tofu and it was hands down the best veg-friendly sandwich i've ever had. the house made vinaigrette was good too. my husband had the dixie burger with pimento cheese: excellent. we got a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing to go. it was a great dining experience; interesting, eclectic decor and nice ambience. my only complaint would be our server was rather brusque, but she got the job done. we will be back next time we're in town!

great spin on florida cuisine!. we eat at "nouveau southern" restaurants often because they usually offer locally-sourced food, they're owned locally, and even if they're not always brilliant, they're always *interesting*. so i was thrilled when we found the floridian in st. augustine. unlike all the other farmed-chinese-fish, red-lobster-knockoff, boring "seafood restaurants" in st. augustine, the floridian offers florida-caught fish and shrimp on a unique, regionally inspired menu.

our family of five arrived on a sunday evening to a packed house and so were seated on the back patio, which was lovely, shady, cool, and includes a ping pong table which kept my kids occupied whenever they weren't stuffing their faces. we ordered the pickled shrimp, the cheese plate, the posole floridian, the barbecue chicken & waffles, the barbecue pork & waffles, the shrimp & grits, and pilau. everything was fantastic. i was particularly thrilled to find pilau (pronounced "purloo") on the menu. pilau is an intensely regional dish that goes back to the original european settlers in florida, who grew rice up and down the st. johns river. the datil peppers featured in many dishes are also grown commercially only in the st. augustine area. despite the packed house, our waiter was prompt and attentive, and our food came out in reasonable amounts of time. the beer was cold and the food was worth savoring over a long dinner.

the floridian is better than nouveau southern, it's nouveau cracker, and i heartily approve. i hope other hotshot chefs pay attention- honoring your region with seasonal menus and doing the research on local food and agricultural history works. we will definitely be back.

without being cliche, omg. i had the best meal i have ever had. and i'm old. the posole floridan. a beef brisket served over the best polenta grits with corn/black eyed peas (don't like those normally) with a fried egg on top. the brisket was fork tender. i didn't even need to add salt. what? that never happens for me. started with the fried pickles. not the usual round slices bit a whole dill quarter. batter was light, served with a great sauce. also had the half portion fried green tomato bruschetta. again, lightly breaded and so flavorful. if i had anything, and i'm reaching here, the bruschetta could have been more toasted. ended the dinner with the peanut butter/chocolate cheesecake with, what? amaretto sauce!! even the coffee was great. black for me. this is my new go to restaurant. my dining partner had the meatloaf sandwich which had a strange spice she didn't care for. will def be back. want to try several of the salads for lunches.

vegans and indian/hindu vegetarians beware!! we got excited seeing this was rated vegan on yelp thinking this may be vegan heaven. alas, not so!!! not only is it not vegan heaven, it seemed like we were being a pain by asking our waitress about potential substitutions. service was meh too, and got progressively worse. only reason we stayed was we had walked forever to get to this place, and kids were famished and cranky.

misleading label calling this place great for vegans.

attention to detail... the .... attention to detail...
the food is always spot on, i just wish they would have warm friendly people working here! also we just are here on this week, june 2014 and we went there around 11:40 am and the vases that hold cut flowers were disgusting. attention to detail is important, it make a me think what else they are not doing!

nice spot. great salad, local fresh ingredients, lovely place with lots of character. fish was a touch overcooked. portions a bit on the small side for my taste.

would not go back. yes, it's true. the desserts are sitting right there on the hostess counter uncovered and well within reach of any visitors to handle and breathe upon.

the food...mediocre at best. i had the kitchen sink cobb which should have been submitted to the insinkerator (aka garbage disposal). artfully placed across the top were severely charred strips of fat they called bacon, and the deviled eggs would have insulted satan. my husband had the shrimp & sausage pilau. the server said pilau was like jambalaya...not. spicy rice with 1 shrimp & 1 bite of sausage.

great service always makes me feel better about a poor meal experience. unfortunately this was not the case here. don't misunderstand, she was nice and got our orders right, but there was zero follow up. once the food was delivered she was mia.

and let's not ignore the noise! bare floors and ceilings with concrete block walls make for a loud din.
