good vibe, good food and good waiters. even if it's not easy to find a place without booking (unless you are ok with seating at the bar counter) i do like this restaurant. the food on the board changes often . it's a mix of different countries, french, italian , south african, american. all tasty and well presented.

what an awesome little spot that's just popped up on kloof street and how lucky we are to have it! i'm a bit of a regular at black sheep -- especially on a saturday or sunday late morning for their amazing bloody mary cocktails and delicious, high quality food. the service is always top notch and these guys know what they're doing. i've been for dinner once and was equally as impressed...it's amazingly delicious. i've still never been all the way upstairs - it seems it's always closed off for some odd reason or another but that's probably my only complaint about this place. rad vibe, great food...it's a winner.

had such a blast! everyone was really happy with their food. we had various starters to share, all delicious. had citrus ostrich as a main, which was a treat! chocolate brownie for dessert was a fantastic end to a great evening.

waiters were attentive and professional, as well as knowledgeable about the menu. big thumbs up

a surprising good meal out this week! simple decor but great food and value. to start with had bruschetta with pea and mint. starters was a moroccan green bean & seared tuna salad w/ preserved lemon, olives & harrisa and a colleague had chicory & pear salad w/ toasted pecan nuts & gorgonzola. for mains had chinese 5 spice sticky hoisin pork belly w/ sweet potato puree, chinese cabbage & pok choi. dessert was a delicious almond tart with creme fraiche.  service just a bit slow :(

the black sheep is a restaurant that has the laid back vibe of kloof street, making it seem deceptively simple with chalk board menus and minimalistic furnishings. it is anything but simple! the wine list is super, we opted for a glass each of the beaumont chenin blanc which was absolutely perfect for sipping throughout our meals. the “bar snacks” are beautifully presented, elegant flavour combinations. we tried the prego steak bruschetta and the jalapeño croquettes. both were amazing. i found that the portions are definitely meant for sharing as they are quite generous in size. the prego steak was lovely and far more delicate than any prego sauce i’ve tried before. the croquettes had a slight bite, i’d highly recommend these! as a main we asked to share the yellowfish curry. the chef was kind enough to serve each half on separate plates. the curry was delicate, not too hot and very balanced in flavours. i particularly liked the addition of brinjal. our service was good, although my one gripe was that it did take a while to receive the meals and we struggled to get our waiters attention. other than that -the black sheep is definitely a must!

dropped in today for a light lunch. we had beer battered fish & chips, and kidneys with rosti.,and shared a watermelon and feta salad. all excellent. an interesting and reasonably priced wine list rounded off a well deserved 5 stars.

we had such a great time here. the food was delicious and the service was excellent. the staff made us comfortable and offered us drinks while we waited for our table. we got the warthog curry and herbed chicken. both were excellent with really large portions. the restaurant was buzzing throughout and had a great atmosphere.

we went out for my sister in law's birthday last night. the food was nice but not anything fantastic. the service was attentive and the water knowledgeable. unfortunately our meal was completely overshadowed by the manager refusing to allow the half bottle of wine left to be taken. we eat out every week and this has never happened before.

was so looking forward to eating at this highly spoken about restaurant in the heart of bree street. i was however highly disappointed with the reception i received by the manager. after being placed at a table near the kitchen (which was inevitably warm) we attempted to move the table further away from the kitchen only to be met by a rude and unhelpful manager who insisted we had “overstepped the line”. the waitrons then attempted to help us after our unpleasant encounter with the manager. very disappointed.

my absolute favourite restaurant in cape town - never disappoints!
booking well in advance is essential - this place is popular for good reason.
the dishes are fresh, tasty and indulgent without being that usual cape town thing of being too finicky or pretentious. the menu is a novel take on international standards and expresses creativity in the superbly matched flavours in each dish. the desserts are a warm and seductive treat not to be missed!

wow what an amazing experience, this restaurant is 10/10! the restaurant is on 3 levels, it is small and intimate and well decorated. we were welcomed on our arrival by the manager richard who landed up being our waiter. he has studied at top international hotel schools and knows his shit! apparently the owner is one of the chefs and spends a lot of his time meeting suppliers and sourcing the best quality ingredients from the farms around cape town. for starters we went all out and ordered one of everything. for me by far the best was the tuna noodle dish, i had to order a second portion it was so good! also the watermelon and feta salad was insane and it goes well with the tuna starter. for mains i had the deboned chicken legs with coriander, lime and white basmati rice , was the best chicken meal i’ve ever had. for dessert the chocolate brownie 😍 the almond tart was also a winner. the only problem is that they change the menu regularly so these items may not be there for very long but i’m sure anything these guys put together will be amazing. thanks black sheep for an amazing last dinner in cape town and will see you again soon!
