the black sheep is a restaurant that has the laid back vibe of kloof street, making it seem deceptively simple with chalk board menus and minimalistic furnishings. it is anything but simple! the wine list is super, we opted for a glass each of the beaumont chenin blanc which was absolutely perfect for sipping throughout our meals. the “bar snacks” are beautifully presented, elegant flavour combinations. we tried the prego steak bruschetta and the jalapeño croquettes. both were amazing. i found that the portions are definitely meant for sharing as they are quite generous in size. the prego steak was lovely and far more delicate than any prego sauce i’ve tried before. the croquettes had a slight bite, i’d highly recommend these! as a main we asked to share the yellowfish curry. the chef was kind enough to serve each half on separate plates. the curry was delicate, not too hot and very balanced in flavours. i particularly liked the addition of brinjal. our service was good, although my one gripe was that it did take a while to receive the meals and we struggled to get our waiters attention. other than that -the black sheep is definitely a must!
