what an awesome little spot that's just popped up on kloof street and how lucky we are to have it! i'm a bit of a regular at black sheep -- especially on a saturday or sunday late morning for their amazing bloody mary cocktails and delicious, high quality food. theserviceis always top notch and these guys know what they're doing. i've been for dinner once and was equally as impressed...it's amazingly delicious. i've still never been all the way upstairs - it seems it's always closed off for some odd reason or another but that's probably my only complaint about this place. rad vibe, great food...it's a winner.

a surprising good meal out this week! simple decor but great food and value. to start with had bruschetta with pea and mint. starters was a moroccan green bean & seared tuna salad w/ preserved lemon, olives & harrisa and a colleague had chicory & pear salad w/ toasted pecan nuts & gorgonzola. for mains had chinese 5 spice sticky hoisin pork belly w/ sweet potato puree, chinese cabbage & pok choi. dessert was a delicious almond tart with creme fraiche.  service just a bit slow :(

the black sheep is a restaurant that has the laid back vibe of kloof street, making it seem deceptively simple with chalk board menus and minimalistic furnishings. it is anything but simple! the wine list is super, we opted for a glass each of the beaumont chenin blanc which was absolutely perfect for sipping throughout our meals. the “bar snacks” are beautifully presented, elegant flavour combinations. we tried the prego steak bruschetta and the jalapeño croquettes. both were amazing. i found that the portions are definitely meant for sharing as they are quite generous in size. the prego steak was lovely and far more delicate than any prego sauce i’ve tried before. the croquettes had a slight bite, i’d highly recommend these! as a main we asked to share the yellowfish curry. the chef was kind enough to serve each half on separate plates. the curry was delicate, not too hot and very balanced in flavours. i particularly liked the addition of brinjal. ourservicewas good, although my one gripe was that it did take a while to receive the meals and we struggled to get our waiters attention. other than that -the black sheep is definitely a must!

we had such a great time here. the food was delicious and theservicewas excellent. the staff made us comfortable and offered us drinks while we waited for our table. we got the warthog curry and herbed chicken. both were excellent with really large portions. the restaurant was buzzing throughout and had a great atmosphere.

we went out for my sister in law's birthday last night. the food was nice but not anything fantastic. theservicewas attentive and the water knowledgeable. unfortunately our meal was completely overshadowed by the manager refusing to allow the half bottle of wine left to be taken. we eat out every week and this has never happened before.

thoroughly enjoyed my first time here. i just searched for top rated restaurants i hadn't been to and this one popped up and i was not disappointed. theservicewas rather slow although this could have been due to the venue being full, other than that they have an interesting menu which allows you to try new things. food and drinks, excellent! a must try spot.

wow, just wow. the space is designed in an unpretentious but stylish way, comfortable, too.servicewas impeccable - from the person greeting us at the door to the young lady serving us. we did not ever have to look for her, and she also wasn't in our face the entire night. now for the food - simply sublime. of course, i can't speak for how it will be every time (the menu changes twice a day), but maaan, did we get lucky! for starters, we shared lamb liver wrapped in bacon set on a bed of rocket with mustard spreads - so delicious. my partner had the rabbit papardelle, which he enjoyed (except he did say they skimped a little on the meat). my order was the chinese 5 spice roast pork belly with asian greens - i actually had to sit back after my first bite because i could already foresee being sad when it would be over. it was so simple, but so so good. really, one of the best meals i have ever had. to accompany this, we shared the black pearl cab sav/shiraz blend, which went down really well. for dessert, we had the coconut sago pudding and the almond torte. we both thoroughly enjoyed them! the flavours and recipes weren't particularly creative or amazing in their presentation, but the food, just the actual food, its textures, flavours, colours - pure music.

i was so impressed with this place. way more people arrived than we had booked for (20 when booked for 12). they created a special menu for us which was absolutely incredible and theservicewas amazing. the management were so accommodating even though the restaurant was packed and we had a fabulous evening with the most delicious food. i highly recommend this restaurant!

we had the spider steak and pork belly. the steak was okay, but the pork belly was phenomenal! we liked the vibe as we walked in to the bar/ lower dining area. it lost some of its charm as we walked up the stairs to our table. servicewas good and food was good. i think we'd try it again for the pork belly if nothing else.

great restaurant with a fabulous vibe. always seems to be busy with excellent food, serviceand fair pricing for the quality received. seared tuna salad a winner as is the pork belly. highly recommended and if you can't get a table , eat at the bar counter, it's great fun and perfect to eye out the masses.

seated in the loft. the menu is hand written in a chalk board in a manner which can be described as an anxiety inspired mess. once we managed to compartmentalise each section of the menu our view was blocked by other people being seated on tables in between us and the board. this meant that even though they were seated i had to get up in order to read the hieroglyphics on the chalk board of doom.

theservicewas absolutely perfect. our waiter was knowledgable, fun, considerate, and intuitive.

i picked whatever was visible from where i was sitting (please note the photo of the menu is from a standing position as you've come up the stairs) and the food was delicious. everyone else also enjoyed their meals very much. i wouldn't say it was my favourite meal but after closer inspection of the menu i did find some options i would've enjoyed much more, i think.

i will be back but will decide what to have before i leave home.
