what an awesome little spot that's just popped up on kloof street and how lucky we are to have it! i'm a bit of a regular atblacksheep -- especially on a saturday or sunday late morning for their amazing bloody mary cocktails and delicious, high quality food. the service is always top notch and these guys know what they're doing. i've been for dinner once and was equally as impressed...it's amazingly delicious. i've still never been all the way upstairs - it seems it's always closed off for some odd reason or another but that's probably my only complaint about this place. rad vibe, great food...it's a winner.

theblacksheep is a restaurant that has the laid back vibe of kloof street, making it seem deceptively simple with chalk board menus and minimalistic furnishings. it is anything but simple! the wine list is super, we opted for a glass each of the beaumont chenin blanc which was absolutely perfect for sipping throughout our meals. the “bar snacks” are beautifully presented, elegant flavour combinations. we tried the prego steak bruschetta and the jalapeño croquettes. both were amazing. i found that the portions are definitely meant for sharing as they are quite generous in size. the prego steak was lovely and far more delicate than any prego sauce i’ve tried before. the croquettes had a slight bite, i’d highly recommend these! as a main we asked to share the yellowfish curry. the chef was kind enough to serve each half on separate plates. the curry was delicate, not too hot and very balanced in flavours. i particularly liked the addition of brinjal. our service was good, although my one gripe was that it did take a while to receive the meals and we struggled to get our waiters attention. other than that -theblacksheep is definitely a must!

wow what an amazing experience, this restaurant is 10/10! the restaurant is on 3 levels, it is small and intimate and well decorated. we were welcomed on our arrival by the manager richard who landed up being our waiter. he has studied at top international hotel schools and knows his shit! apparently the owner is one of the chefs and spends a lot of his time meeting suppliers and sourcing the best quality ingredients from the farms around cape town. for starters we went all out and ordered one of everything. for me by far the best was the tuna noodle dish, i had to order a second portion it was so good! also the watermelon and feta salad was insane and it goes well with the tuna starter. for mains i had the deboned chicken legs with coriander, lime and white basmati rice , was the best chicken meal i’ve ever had. for dessert the chocolate brownie 😍 the almond tart was also a winner. the only problem is that they change the menu regularly so these items may not be there for very long but i’m sure anything these guys put together will be amazing. thanksblacksheep for an amazing last dinner in cape town and will see you again soon!

wow, just wow. the space is designed in an unpretentious but stylish way, comfortable, too. service was impeccable - from the person greeting us at the door to the young lady serving us. we did not ever have to look for her, and she also wasn't in our face the entire night. now for the food - simply sublime. of course, i can't speak for how it will be every time (the menu changes twice a day), but maaan, did we get lucky! for starters, we shared lamb liver wrapped in bacon set on a bed of rocket with mustard spreads - so delicious. my partner had the rabbit papardelle, which he enjoyed (except he did say they skimped a little on the meat). my order was the chinese 5 spice roast pork belly with asian greens - i actually had to sit back after my first bite because i could already foresee being sad when it would be over. it was so simple, but so so good. really, one of the best meals i have ever had. to accompany this, we shared theblackpearl cab sav/shiraz blend, which went down really well. for dessert, we had the coconut sago pudding and the almond torte. we both thoroughly enjoyed them! the flavours and recipes weren't particularly creative or amazing in their presentation, but the food, just the actual food, its textures, flavours, colours - pure music.

theblacksheep lived up to expectations 💯

the food was art on a plate and extremely tasty! i was also impressed with the cocktails that were served.

staff was friendly and attentive... only thing i would change is having actual menu's and not having to look on the board but that aside, i had a great time there💯

worthy of many returns :)

no disappointments here (18 feb 2017)
service: superb, attentive, friendly, efficient
food: delightful combinations. i had the parmesan asparagus rolls to start, which were sublime. my ostrich was perfectly done with the right amount of crispyblackcrust from the grill. combined with red cabbage that caressed my canines with cuisine quality.
ambience: modern, unpretentious, but hard surfaces make the full house very noisy indeed

i was very grateful to get a last minute booking here on friday night, given how notoriously hard it is to get a table without one. there's been a lot of hype about theblacksheep and i've heard countless good things from people i know who have gone. our booking was at 20:30, a bit late, but it was a friday so why not? i ordered the rainbow trout gravadlax to start and my partner had the pork loin with capers. my trout was very fresh and the small mustard sauce on the side was a lovely combination of flavours, but my partner's pork loin definitely took the cake with its creamy sauce and capers. for mains, i had the pork belly with crackling while my partner had the seared rainbow trout. we ordered onion rings and chips as sides. the pork belly was unlike any pork belly i've every tasted. it was like butter that melted in my mouth. the crackling, however, had that flavour and texture that made you wonder if it hadn't been cooled and or kept hot in the oven as it was quite dry. sadly, my partner's salmon did not live up to the same hype. seared it was not, and i'm afraid it seemed to have been left a little too long in the pan. despite that, he did enjoy it, but sadly was not quite what he was expecting as it was entirely cooked through. their wine list has a good selection but the markup seems a bit extreme. all in all, i'd go back for their pork belly and pork loin starter, but perhaps i'd take my own wine or not order a bottle.

theblacksheep is an impressive venue in kloof street. spacious and with a nice vibe.

the menu is changed from time to time but really caters for all. from meat lovers to vegetarians.

they have three jackblackcraft beers on tap and an extensive variety of other drinks as well.

will definitely return to this restaurant.

theblacksheep is an awesome spot near the top of kloof. the restaurant has an open layout with a great buzz. the bar area is really impressive and there is also a cool lounge area upstairs where you can relax before eating. did i mention that the views from the restaurant are amazing!

i really went out the box with my starter and had 'jellied pigs head terrine with pickled radish apple and mustard salad and toast' - i was apprehensive but it was really delicious! i also had the trout which i also really enjoyed. the menu is up on a bigblackboard and changes from day to day.

i really look forward to visiting again soon!

i've been wanting to visitblacksheep for ages and finally got there last week. the vibe is super trendy and i made sure to book in advance to get a table. our waiter was great and very informative on the menu. the food was good, but i was slightly disappointed after having such high expectations. i had the leek and potato soup to start and the pork belly for main. both were nice, but the pork belly was very rich. my boyfriend had the goats cheese tart and the quail which he enjoyed too. we finished off with the white chocolate mousse which was super yummy! definitely recommendblacksheep for a nice dinner out with friends, just be sure to book!

not being from cape town, i hadn't heard of the restaurant when i was offered to join friends and family at theblacksheep. i was told that this booking was made a month prior to the date due to the popularity restaurant so it was an invite i was definitely not going to turn down.

everyone had hyped up the event so i had some big expectations of what i would be treated to later that evening.

i can comfortably say that all the hype was clearly justified based on my whole dining experience that evening.

the downstairs seating area is quite intimate overlooking the bustling kloof street. the restaurant feeds off and adds to that energy.

i had the hanger steak with the thick cut chips and it was absolutely incredible! the steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were so perfectly done that i just didn't want the meal to end. servings were really generous and some of the ladies at the table didn't manage to finish their meal. i wasn't complaining as that meant more tasters for me. although all the other dishes were also really good, i don't think they even came close to the hanger steak.

the staff were friendly and efficient which always adds to the dining experience.

i really enjoyed my meal there and highly recommend the restaurant.

glad i could finally get a booking at theblacksheep. they are always fully booked and i was desperate to find out what the buzz is all about.
the setting is really cool, i love the chalk board menu and they have a fabulous wine list.
we had 2 starters and one main to share. pork loin and anchovy was the first starter and asparagus wrapped in phylo the second. both starters were pretty good. the main however, 5-spice pork belly, was definitely the show stopper! they were really busy, so our waiter wasn't as attentive as i would've liked, but he was really friendly and knowledgeable.

it was a great experience and i will definitely be back (if i can get a booking).
