one of the best local hangouts! brilliant seasonal emulsions upon the plate! selection is limited to what is written on the chalk boards - but it enhances the demands for quality and taste, which are constantly met! a trendy atmosphere and prime location.

we just had a lovely dinner. i ordered the rabbit which is always hard to find on any menu and my friend ordered pork shoulder. the rabbit was wrapped in bacon and served with peas, rosti and green beans. a very hearty winter dish. service was good. i couldn't read the chalk board with the started to the waiter pointed me to the web site which was much better. desert menu was not so creative, bit boring. lovely chiraz from arendsig

love this spot. very trendy and always busy. the chef makes mouthwatering dishes that never disappoint. i have been there at least 9 times by now and have never been unhappy. the food is packed with delicious flavour and the portions are generous. the chef here is certainly inspired to create great things!

i've been wanting to visit black sheep for ages and finally got there last week. the vibe is super trendy and i made sure to book in advance to get a table. our waiter was great and very informative on the menu. the food was good, but i was slightly disappointed after having such high expectations. i had the leek and potato soup to start and the pork belly for main. both were nice, but the pork belly was very rich. my boyfriend had the goats cheese tart and the quail which he enjoyed too. we finished off with the white chocolate mousse which was super yummy! definitely recommend black sheep for a nice dinner out with friends, just be sure to book!

cool joint for a drink and café-style chow down. i had the pulled pork and liquorice fries. thankfully they don't actually taste like liquorice. service was pretty good too.

not being from cape town, i hadn't heard of the restaurant when i was offered to join friends and family at the black sheep. i was told that this booking was made a month prior to the date due to the popularity restaurant so it was an invite i was definitely not going to turn down.

everyone had hyped up the event so i had some big expectations of what i would be treated to later that evening.

i can comfortably say that all the hype was clearly justified based on my whole dining experience that evening.

the downstairs seating area is quite intimate overlooking the bustling kloof street. the restaurant feeds off and adds to that energy.

i had the hanger steak with the thick cut chips and it was absolutely incredible! the steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were so perfectly done that i just didn't want the meal to end. servings were really generous and some of the ladies at the table didn't manage to finish their meal. i wasn't complaining as that meant more tasters for me. although all the other dishes were also really good, i don't think they even came close to the hanger steak.

the staff were friendly and efficient which always adds to the dining experience.

i really enjoyed my meal there and highly recommend the restaurant.

glad i could finally get a booking at the black sheep. they are always fully booked and i was desperate to find out what the buzz is all about.
the setting is really cool, i love the chalk board menu and they have a fabulous wine list.
we had 2 starters and one main to share. pork loin and anchovy was the first starter and asparagus wrapped in phylo the second. both starters were pretty good. the main however, 5-spice pork belly, was definitely the show stopper! they were really busy, so our waiter wasn't as attentive as i would've liked, but he was really friendly and knowledgeable.

it was a great experience and i will definitely be back (if i can get a booking).

we celebrated my sister's birthday at the black sheep in kloof street. we arrived there earlier than our booking in order to have drinks before dinner and sat upstairs in a lounge area (which had a tv showing the cricket to some people's delight). the restaurant was very full (you have to book) but it never felt too busy and there was a good, friendly atmosphere.

our waiter (i didn't catch his name unfortunately) was very friendly and attentive in serving our rather large table.

the menu (written on a blackboard in the restaurant) has a wide variety of options - as a result of which deciding between menu items took a while as they all looked so tempting.

i ordered the pork belly as a main with sweet potato puree. the pork was absolutely delicious and the portion size was very generous. others really enjoyed the trout, hake and the quail.

the mains range between r110 and r165 so, for me at least, it is on the more expensive side of the restaurants i have been to but it was completely worth it!

the only reason i'm not giving 5 stars is that gratuity (because of our table size) of 12% was added which i felt was a bit steep.

overall, a really delicious meal and awesome evening. i'll definitely go back!

came here on a busy saturday night with 7 people. the service was excellent, they have a great variety of good wines to choose from and the food was just marvellous. although it was very busy, our meals arrived quickly and all of them together. each of them looked and fantastic and was cooked perfectly on time. we will definately visit again!

i had the pleasure of eating lunch here last week. having eaten at this restaurant a number of times, i know what to expect, but the fact that it never fails to excite makes it a needle in a haystack of overpriced city bowl mediocrity.

the venue is stylish yet comfortable, the service is friendly and not "in your face", the beer and wine selections are eclectic and thoughtful, and the food is simply jawdroppingly good. we had the hanger steak and thick cut fries (my vote for best steak in cape town) and the sheep burger, which was absolutely amazing.

the place can get very busy, so i would imagine booking is a must, but it really is one of the nicest places in cape town for an informal and relaxed place to eat some unbelievable food.

based in busy, funky kloof street black sheep fits right in! cool menu written on a big chalk board - i assume this means they change the menu according to availability and season. great service. complimentary crostini with pate which was a mix of anchovies and capers - very different. my seared tuna was out of this world. others at my table had leek and potato soup, fish curry, eggplant, and various starters (as mains). all beautifully presented. the rhubarb crumble for dessert was an absolute treat!! would highly recommend. bookings essential.

what a really fab evening with friends at this great restaurant! big selection of quality modern meals made with care - good choices for veggies, fish or meat eaters. i had the sardine and tomato stack with crunchy olive crumb- delish! mains was the seared tuna with fennel and sautéed potato with lemon and caper dressing- lip smacking! we paired our meals with vondeling rosé- lovely! the table service was perfect, you know, drinks always full, things always dealt with, with least possible fuss, very professional. the vibe is cool-sophisticated, upmarket without the pretence, very comfortable. we loved and will definitely go back for a special night out!

being in cape town for a few days i wanted to try a few different restuarants and what a find the black sheep is. it was busy and i was seated at the bar. i ordered the pork belly which was fantastic especially the crackling all washed down with a draught beer. then the piece de resistance, the chocolate brownies, if i had known they were this good i would have just had 2 portions of them.
i will definitely be back as soon as i can
