we were lucky to have lunch today at taco boy in charleston. this restaurant "gem" is certainly a hidden gem. friends of ours that have lived here for many years told us about the place, otherwise, i don't know if we'd ever had found it, or have tried. tu

taco boy. not worth take-out. a $3.95 fish taco that was small, dry and boring. the tea was $1.95. good bar atmosphere, not good food.

maybe the entire staff was still hungover from their halloween party the night before. not sure. this was the worst dining experience i have ever had. after waiting 15 minutes for a waitress to come over and take our drink orders and then at least 5 more to get our drinks and place our food orders, it took another 30 minutes to get our tacos. we were one of only five tables inside. maybe service outside is better. by the time we got our joke of a taco that didn't have what was on the menu in them and some of the wrong tacos, we were to hungry to send them back. we finally got a water at the end if the meal. they did take a few tacos off but that doesn't make up for the horrible service and long wait.

went rather late on a friday but were seated right away. our server was not really available but we finally we ordered and the food came out super fast. the tacos are tiny and were uninspired, but the nachos are awesome.

entertaining.... fun and eclectic atmosphere. service varies from time to time. the food is simple and fresh and i enjoy it for its lack of complexity. the guacamole i would murder someone over, and their chips are done well also! price point is a little much for what your getting, but we all have to make money somehow. bartenders there are instant comrades. please spray for mosquitoes mr. boy!

nickle and dime boy is a better name. i got my first experience with taco boy a few days ago with some coworkers. the restaurant came highly recommended. the atmosphere is okay but a little strange. i had a $3.95 taco which wasn't good, kind of dry. if i wanted more sauce it would've cost an additional 25 cents. unlike most mexican restaurants, no chips and salsa were served, that's an additional cost. one coworker didn't like guacamole and asked for cream cheese instead. to her dismay, when she received her check there was an additional charged for the cream cheese. i am glad i didn't ask for additional napkins, it probably would've cost me an additional 25 cents each. needless to say, i am not going back to taco boy.

really gross. don't do it - so many ways a restaurant can spread bad karma - this one is full of it - treats the workers bad - so how bad do you think they will treat you as a client.

fun and funky. the food is not complex - tacos and such. basically a single page menu in two columns with beers and drinks on the back of the menu. but what they have is done right with lots of flavor. not counting alcohol you will end up spending about $10 to $12 per person. the drinks are up to you.

there is a great outside area and a bar that surrounds the window between inside and out. the atmosphere is funky and the staff is friendly. they taco boy has a good sized parking lot, but it can fill up fast which will leave you parking on the street. so go early, get a good spot, and enjoy the evening.

fun & filling. i really enjoyed the atmosphere and great service. i believed i have gone through the tacos part of the menu. i keep going back to the tempura shrimp. it's great! the pork taco is too chewy!

good value, great atmosphere. this is a fun restaurant with a great atmosphere. the menu is fairly simple...which i see as a positive. the guac, salsa and queso were all very good. the taco's are moderately priced at $3.95 a piece (you'll want to get at least two) but i found them to be dry and would recommend that you ask for extra sauce (which they will charge you 25 cents for, but its worth it).

the margaritas were good (they weren't the neon green kind) but i think they are skimping on the pours...and when i am paying $9 for a margarita thats not ok.

overall, the restaurant really works and i look forward to trying it again.
