st. augustine's

after reading some of the reviews i was a little hesitant to try thisplacebut since its location fit in with some sunday afternoon plans i talked the bf into giving it a try. we were pleasantly surprised. i had the chicken chop salad which looked a bit anemic but was actually pretty tasty with roasted tomatoes and deep fried chick peas adding interest. my somewhat fussy bf declared himself to be impressed by the juicy flavourful burger. the food was a bit slow in coming but not absurdly so and the service was friendly and efficient. it's not the most excitingplaceto brunch but the food is solid and the prices are not out of line with other restaurants of this type. neither my bf or i regretted giving it a try and will probably be back to try the fried chicken which looked pretty good as it passed out table on its way to some other lucky customer.

greatplaceto go for late night eats and for hanging out after work. the 4 beer flights are popular here and quite a few people order them. it's a great thing to try if you're into beer and want to try a bunch from pale ale to dark ale all in one go!

great beer selection of microbrews locally and along the west coast. only alibi room compares on the microbrew scene. if you love bud light etc please go somewhere else. thisplaceis not for you. good food and specials and greatplaceto watch the canucks

ahhh st. augustine's... you gotta love a bar that semi-parodies a catholic church. well at least i do. i had drinks here with a close friend on his recommendation and i was certainly not disappointed! i knew i was in for a treat considering theplacewas packed on a monday night.  it took us both roughly 20 minutes or so just to get a table.  great beer and drink selection, i particularly liked the irish black stout that i ordered. the poutine i had wasn't overly greasy or smothered in gravy like most poutines. my s/p wings were on par with wings from cactus. though i have to admit i felt a bit cheated not getting the meatloaf my friend did (it looked amazing).  service was friendly and fast, the only trouble we really had was flagging down a server given how busy theplacewas at the time. food portions were generous, reasonably priced, and good quality. what more can you ask for in a bar really? st. augustine's its safe to say you have a new convert and he will definitely be back!

thisplaceis always busy, so make sure you get someone there to put in your name, it's worth it! they have a great selection of great beers, and all of their food is amazing! i've had brunch, appies, and meals here and i've enjoyed all of it!

my boyfriend's coworker had a birthday party at st. augustine's bar. the bar is located on commercial dr. nearby commercial boardway skytrain station. it is a greatplaceto go for the birthday party. people can eat dinner and watch the game at the same time. we've ordered nachos, chicken wings and the 4 beers flights since lots of people ordered them. it's a great thing to try all the popular food in this bar.

i was craving for chicken wings while i was in my way to downtown so i had to pick a quick recall from my memory of the places that are on top of my list in terms of chicken wings, and was using the app for awhile and hey found thisplacein wings and beer and they have quite a high rating as well...

so went down from the commercial and broadway station and walked for abit and reached theplace:) theplaceis totally commutable and a good spot to meet up with friends definitely. went there on lunch time on weekdays and yes i had to try most of the chicken wings, so with 5 options available and able to order half order i'm very satisfied with that, i went with 4 different flavors.

i find out a few things in common about the chicken wings... they are a bit dry, and the sauce is just decent... hopefully is just an off day for them in terms of cooking the chicken wings... other than that i don't think it's worthy to be called one of the better chicken wings in vancouver in my personal opinion :d

but other than that it was quite slow, and the servers are okay although they can used a little more help as it seems like she's overwhelmed by the number of people she needs to serve. :) but it's all good.

the wings juicyness and tenderness of the wings i'll give it a horrible 1.75 unfortunately and the sauce a 2. the memory that i left from theplacefrom having a high expectation fell down quite bad... :(( hopefully it's only a hiccup from them

i love beer, so with their amazing local beer menu, thisplacehas been on my hit-up list for awhile. it did not disappoint. such a great selection of beer. the added bonuses here were: 1) fun, busy atmosphere on a hockey night 2) good food! which i thought would be compromised because of the awesome beer. we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, and our server wasn’t very attentive, but it was very busy. i really enjoyed the fried brussels sprouts and tofu mushroom lettuce wraps, i’d go back just for them. my friends liked their beet salad and burger, but i think that i won food-wise.

rude service. we have been here a few times and bring friends and family from out of town to show them a good time. came here with my newly engaged cousin and fiancé. the server had said that she needed to seat us separately since there was 8 of us. we said that's fine. 5 mins after being seated the table next to us cleared up. we politely asked if our friends could switch tables. the waitress bluntly said no, you can not! and we said that's fine, we didn't mean to upset her. we did a swap of chairs so we could catch up with the other table. the pub is pretty crowded and it's normal for people to walk around. especially downtown pubs. the waitress walks over to us and starts yelling: look you said okay to tables being split and now you guys are making an issue about it! i don't know who you think you are but you agreed to split tables so sit in your seats!!

how embarrassing for us, for taking my cousin here. for thinking this was a greatplaceat all. thisplaceno longer suits the lifestyle of commercial. we weren't rude, we didn't even talk back. we were just in shock. there is a certain way to handle business and that is not the way. i launched a complaint to a manager and she stated there are rules guests must follow and she fully supports her waitress. i replied that we weren't loud or rowdy or drunk, we were completely sober and paying customer and that there is was a different friendlier and kinder way to inform us instead of yelling at us as if we are children. we are in our 30s fyi. our party days are long gone. i wouldn't support such an establishment that thinks that servers can take out their anger on customers. btw, the manager never replied me after that.

josh loves beer. so, there’s honestly no betterplaceto take him but st. augustine’s. i blogged about craft, tap and barrel and hop and vine but felt really guilty i’ve never really mentioned commercial drive’s picks. which are significantly better. i’ve been to biercraft and st. augustine’s many times before, but i haven’t actually ever blogged about it! st. augustine’s has a lot of craft beer to offer. they keep a percentage posted of how much they have left on screens and online. i hands down think that st. augustine’s rotates and has better selection than craft market and tap and barrel. yes, craft has a huge list. but it doesn’t really seem to change or seem as interesting as what st. augustine’s picks. i find if you’re a newcomer to craft beer, than yes, craft and tap and barrel are a good start. but the food is really good here. my review of craft reveals their horribly slow service. tap and barrel is a bit pricey. but st. augustine’s is just right. it explains why it’s always

bad waitress. i’m a beer drinker and usually like this place, but after last night i won’t be going back. my girlfriend and i go and it’s too busy to get a table. i live close so we stand at the bar and get take out. there is a single seat so i sit down as i’m looking at the menu and we order. since there is only one seat available, and for some reason, we can only order one drink because ‘that’s the law’. i order food and while we wait i order a beer. the waitress proceeds to make fun of me and encourage my girlfriend that i’m a jerk for not buying her a drink instead, while we wait for ten minutes. i’m a beer guy and don’t get to go to thisplaceoften. i guess blowing $65 on take out isn’t good enough of a jester for the waitress and somehow i’m a bad guy for wanting to try a beer. i tipped 18% and felt dirty about it. won’t be going back any time soon, there are other great beer joints on the strip to grab a drink and buy over priced food.

unfair treatment. in short:
thisplaceis defin not worth the wait, over priced and so-so food. good selection of beer but there are other places for that too. stupid waitress and/or possibly was at the end of an act of racism but i'm really hoping these waitresses are above that, this is vancouver.... never coming back again

this is why:
our party wanted to go to st aug. for wings on wed night. we've been here more often maybe a year ago and didnt have an issue making a rsvp or getting a table for a large group when we just stopped by but last night was just ridiculous. we called in earlier to make a rsvp but they said they did not accept rsvps for after 6pm . we got there before 6:30 and was told there were 5 groups ahead of us. okay, we knew it was gonna be a wait. maybe 20min in, they called in all the other groups before us already (including a group of 10). we're still left outside waiting. other people walked by us to put their name down and was soon called in as well. we look inside (because we had to wait outside in the freezing cold for a table) and see a long table empty for 1/2 hr already. we asked about that table and they said we're next in line and the'yre just setting up the table now. 10min later, they let another big group in and they settled down at that table. we've been waiting outside for about 50min now. and during this time, other groups of 3s and 4s get called in ahead of us. i finally decide to go inside to ask what's going on. they said we're basically waiting for the original group of 10 that was ahead of us to leave before we will get seated. i'm not sure how these waitresses are trained but that has got to be the stupidest way to organize seating ever. 1) they obviously do take rsvp because another group that came at 7pm took a table that has been empty for a long time. 2) waitress doesn't understand the concept of first come first serve or the idea of putting ur name down on a list and going down that list. there were tables that were freed within a couple min of each other but they decided to bypass us and give it to 2 separate parties.

an amazing pub experience. this pub is a quick skytrain ride from ourplacein burnaby and is super close to commercial skytrain station. the beer selection is great and the food is really awesome considering it's a pub. the atmosphere is really great; no dirtbags or gangsters. the staff is pretty good, too.

a gem in east van.

terrible atmosphere and awful service. food was ok but the service was very slow and we felt like we were ignored for most of our visit. will most likely never go back. the charlatan beats thisplacehands down. feels like eating in a big cafeteria.
