this was a walk up with no previews. warm day, wanted a beer and there it was, the beer saint. the servers were a little distracted but quick and just friendly enough. ordered a spicy moroccan chicken sandwich and the ruby red ale to wash it down. the patio facing n grandview highway was noisy at 4:30 but i preferred the street atmosphere to the music inside and the breeze under the trees was sweet.
the food came out in a timely fashion but the serving size was fairly small considering the price.goodthing the beer came first. the flavor was generic with nothing really shouting "moroccan!!"...passable. this seems to be a trend where the atmosphere is supposed to be included in the meal price.
overall it was pleasant, but more due to the weather. if i did come back, it would be to enjoy a craft beer with a friend. the selection is broad and decently priced.

after reading some of the reviews i was a little hesitant to try this place but since its location fit in with some sunday afternoon plans i talked the bf into giving it a try. we were pleasantly surprised. i had the chicken chop salad which looked a bit anemic but was actually pretty tasty with roasted tomatoes and deep fried chick peas adding interest. my somewhat fussy bf declared himself to be impressed by the juicy flavourful burger. the food was a bit slow in coming but not absurdly so and the service was friendly and efficient. it's not the most exciting place to brunch but the food is solid and the prices are not out of line with other restaurants of this type. neither my bf or i regretted giving it a try and will probably be back to try the fried chicken which looked prettygoodas it passed out table on its way to some other lucky customer.

great beer, decent food andgoodservice. we had a great night out at st augustine's last night. we came because we'd heard the beer menu wasgoodand were thoroughly impressed with the range. if you find 40 beers a little bewildering ask your server to pick agoodselection.

contrary to a couple of reviews here we found the staff to be really good. the woman who served us (tall with glasses) was great, really helpful with some of our beer noobs and friendly through-out. i definitely didn't begrudge giving her a decent tip.

the food was nice; my wife had the pulled pork sandwich and looked very happy while scoffing it.

we'll be back

looking for the perfect burger&fish and chips. went here with t-bird on a monday. it was a canucks game&a beer craft night so it was super busy. t-bird and i found a seat&shortly after our waitress gave us menus. he ordered the burger with a beer& i ordered their fish and chips with a beer too. our waitress didgoodconsidering how busy they were. the burger was o.k same with my fish and chips.i did like how they served their fries. it wasn't bad but i've had better same with the burger. homemade patty i don't think so (please correct me if i am wrong). we can't call a date without dessert so we ordered deep fried cheesecake. i love cheesecake more then life it's self. but t-bird and i were greatly disappointed. it was philly cream cheese wrapped in i don't know what. the canucks did win the game bonus, but the food was o.k. our waitress did ask us how everything was and they do have agoodselection of beer.
i would go back for beer and hockey. but that's probably the only thing.

ahhh st. augustine's... you gotta love a bar that semi-parodies a catholic church. well at least i do. i had drinks here with a close friend on his recommendation and i was certainly not disappointed! i knew i was in for a treat considering the place was packed on a monday night.  it took us both roughly 20 minutes or so just to get a table.  great beer and drink selection, i particularly liked the irish black stout that i ordered. the poutine i had wasn't overly greasy or smothered in gravy like most poutines. my s/p wings were on par with wings from cactus. though i have to admit i felt a bit cheated not getting the meatloaf my friend did (it looked amazing).  service was friendly and fast, the only trouble we really had was flagging down a server given how busy the place was at the time. food portions were generous, reasonably priced, andgoodquality. what more can you ask for in a bar really? st. augustine's its safe to say you have a new convert and he will definitely be back!

among the patron saints of brewers , four are extremely well known: augustine of hippo , luke the apostle , nicholas of myra (also known as saint nicholas , or santa claus) and thegoodking wenceslas , the latter two also providing a linkage to the winter season of merriment. augustine of hippo, now part of tunisia (born 354 ad, died 430 ad) was known for wild living and significant alcoholic beverage consumption prior to his conversion . his complete turnaround and life of moderation contributed to his becoming a patron saint of brewers. - beer history so..where can i sign up to be a patron saint of beer? sounds like a tough job but i can do it, promise. anyways, here i was with maurice not wanting to call it a night yet after an early dinner, and st. augustine's looked like the perfect excuse. the end cafe or something of the sorts used to occupy this place, but since the opening of st. augustine's, it's been pretty busy here. compared to alibi room

after our last experience with a snarky server when we commented on how the nachos arrived cold and there was barely any cheese, we were reluctant to return. it's not the first time we've been there and have ordered the nachos several times with no complaints. actually quite happy with them so we knew what to expect.  friends invited use to join them and decided to go and take the previous experience as a one off.  as for last sunday's visit, the server was very slow to take our drink orders and water that never came after 20 minutes and had to ask a different server for the water. we asked for salad instead of the fries that come with the burger but being charged $2 extra for three or four forkfuls of salad is a ripoff when you can buy an entire head of romaine for less.  food is overpriced and poor service.  no thanks. never again! plenty of other places to getgoodbeer, food and service.

i was craving for chicken wings while i was in my way to downtown so i had to pick a quick recall from my memory of the places that are on top of my list in terms of chicken wings, and was using the app for awhile and hey found this place in wings and beer and they have quite a high rating as well...

so went down from the commercial and broadway station and walked for abit and reached the place :) the place is totally commutable and agoodspot to meet up with friends definitely. went there on lunch time on weekdays and yes i had to try most of the chicken wings, so with 5 options available and able to order half order i'm very satisfied with that, i went with 4 different flavors.

i find out a few things in common about the chicken wings... they are a bit dry, and the sauce is just decent... hopefully is just an off day for them in terms of cooking the chicken wings... other than that i don't think it's worthy to be called one of the better chicken wings in vancouver in my personal opinion :d

but other than that it was quite slow, and the servers are okay although they can used a little more help as it seems like she's overwhelmed by the number of people she needs to serve. :) but it's all good.

the wings juicyness and tenderness of the wings i'll give it a horrible 1.75 unfortunately and the sauce a 2. the memory that i left from the place from having a high expectation fell down quite bad... :(( hopefully it's only a hiccup from them

i love beer, so with their amazing local beer menu, this place has been on my hit-up list for awhile. it did not disappoint. such a great selection of beer. the added bonuses here were: 1) fun, busy atmosphere on a hockey night 2)goodfood! which i thought would be compromised because of the awesome beer. we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, and our server wasn’t very attentive, but it was very busy. i really enjoyed the fried brussels sprouts and tofu mushroom lettuce wraps, i’d go back just for them. my friends liked their beet salad and burger, but i think that i won food-wise.

rude service. we have been here a few times and bring friends and family from out of town to show them agoodtime. came here with my newly engaged cousin and fiancé. the server had said that she needed to seat us separately since there was 8 of us. we said that's fine. 5 mins after being seated the table next to us cleared up. we politely asked if our friends could switch tables. the waitress bluntly said no, you can not! and we said that's fine, we didn't mean to upset her. we did a swap of chairs so we could catch up with the other table. the pub is pretty crowded and it's normal for people to walk around. especially downtown pubs. the waitress walks over to us and starts yelling: look you said okay to tables being split and now you guys are making an issue about it! i don't know who you think you are but you agreed to split tables so sit in your seats!!

how embarrassing for us, for taking my cousin here. for thinking this was a great place at all. this place no longer suits the lifestyle of commercial. we weren't rude, we didn't even talk back. we were just in shock. there is a certain way to handle business and that is not the way. i launched a complaint to a manager and she stated there are rules guests must follow and she fully supports her waitress. i replied that we weren't loud or rowdy or drunk, we were completely sober and paying customer and that there is was a different friendlier and kinder way to inform us instead of yelling at us as if we are children. we are in our 30s fyi. our party days are long gone. i wouldn't support such an establishment that thinks that servers can take out their anger on customers. btw, the manager never replied me after that.

we were informed wednesday was the wings night. only $5 per pound? how could we resist such an offer? justine ordered salt and pepper wings as a lady always does not want to get too messy over too saucy. :) i went for the exotic choice of tamari ginger wings. wow, they were both really good! i just realized it had been a while since i enjoyedgoodpub chicken wings. salt and pepper wings were fried and seasoned perfectly, and they didn’t taste dry at all. tamari ginger wings won me over with the tons of great flavours: sweet and savory and spicy. and i had sauce all over my fingers but i just didn’t care and kept eating. i kind of wish they could have offered finger bowl or wet tissue, but i probably shouldn’t be complaining because the wings were so delicious.
