virginia and i went to slater’s 50/50 a while back and though it was my second time there, i had yet to write a review. with two trips that were both awesome, i felt like it was time. slater’s is abaconlovers paradise no question, but it also has a lot of other things to offer. it is a bar and grill and it is huge so the wait time is not terrible and they have a huge selection of beer. almost a selection as large as yardhouse but with ten times better food. they also have delerium tremens which is one of my favorite beers which i first tasted at a sampling at bgsu. after a ten minute wait, which was not so bad on a football weekend, we sat do wn and got to ordering. the first thing i went for was abaconbloody mary, it was brunch time so i felt like this was appropriate. i love bloody marys and was excited by the addition of bacon. it arrived after a few minutes and did not disappoint. they had put together a nice combination of spirits (bacon infused vodka), bloody mary mix, and sp

perfect mix of crisp dill pickle & crispy batter! i dip mine in ranch (so good!), but it comes with a nice mustard sauce.

furters, furters and furters!!!

was invited to another yelp event. when visiting a slater's 50/50 location i indulge in burgers, fries and vampire dip (amazing dip) but have never tried the furters. with this event i was given the opportunity to munch on a few of those furters and man were they delicious. the owner scott slater gave a little back history on how it all started before the bites arrived. he also talked about how it took him a while to craft the perfect furter...well scott, you nailed it! and with any slater's creation comes bacon, delicious deliciousbaconwhich is a party all on its own lol.

before the furters arrived, we were treated to some slater's fries & sweet potato fries withbaconketchup and pumpkin sauce. the pumpkin sauce was interesting. a fellow yelper stated at the table that it paired well with the sweet potato fries and she was right. the taste reminded me of a pumpkin spice frappe minus the coffee. for thebaconketchup, it paired perfect with both. it's bacon!

shortly after the furters began rolling out one by one. to kick off this furter feast was the backyard 50/50 furter that was both wrapped and stuffed with bacon. absolutely delicious! not to mention the frank itself was plumped, juicy and flavorful all around. i also like the nice crunch when biting into the frank. next up was the abe froman which was introduced as an unauthentic take on a chicago style hot dog. it's introduction also came with a cool reference to ferris bueller's day off haha. i'd take this over an actual chicago style hot dog any day because they're missing one thing...the 50/50 furter and this bad boy is delicious. all the fixings from a chicago dog came on top adding more flavor. last up was the chili cheese ripper with guinness chili and beer cheese. the flavors ofbaconand beer together = pure heaven!

after the furters a couple of surprises were brought to the table in the form of the original 50/50 burger and the peanut butter & jellousy burger. i'm no stranger to the 50/50 burger. it's the burger that started it all and it's great. it contains my favorite patty of choice when dining at a slater's, the beef &baconblend patty. this was my first time trying the peanut butter & jellousy burger and it was pretty good. we were told to keep an open mind and top it off with vanilla ice cream. i live for trying fusion of foods so i was all in for it. given the peanut butter, jelly and ice cream...i considered this the dessert at the end of a meal.

can't wait to see what new items may come this year.

slater’s 50/50 applies its revolutionary 50/50 recipe to the world of hot dogs and launches its first-of-its kind “50/50 furter” on internationalbaconday!

thanks to my friend who is horrible with directions, we ended up in point loma and changed our lunch plans to try out this place. it was pretty busy so had to be good. our waiter was nice, everything came out in a reasonable time, and the food was good. as a person who isn't too crazy aboutbacon(i know, i know how un-american. get over it), maybe not the spot for me. i see the appeal though for those who lovebaconand beer.

be ready to have a huge hamburger. the 50/50 is da bomb. the flavor is really tasty. i like the different ketchup's toobaconketchup & vodka ketchup (my fav). my husband created his own burger which was ok. the meat seemed a tad tough in comparison to mine. the fries & onion rings were delish too! had the cucumber mojito and my husband had a beer. desserts sounds delish but there was no room to indulge on anything more! def. coming back as i saw some other dishes that caught my eye!

poutine was amazing! decided to go for the design ur own 50/50 burger. it was good, but not great. really wanted to love it but it really was very dense and dry. i would have thought having 50 percentbaconit wouldn't have been so dry. it was cooked well even though i asked for medium, not a deal breaker but might b why it was dry. overall really good, and will try again

pros: the burgers were excellent and our bartender, billy joe, was great. cons: everything else. thebaconjalapeño mac & cheese tasted like it came out of a $.90 box by kraft. it was runny, there was nobaconin it, and it was topped by 2 slices of jalapeño and crushed cheez-it's. and it took 40 minutes to get it. the milkshake tasted like melted ice cream which may explain why it took 20 minutes to make it. recommendation: get their burgers to go.

burger-centric eateries are abundant in the city of san diego, but there is only one where you can get a 50% beef / 50%baconpatty and choose from over 100 beers on tap – hail slater’s 50/50 . slater’s 50/50 started in anaheim in 2008 and quickly gained popularity due to its more than ample beer selection, large portions ofbaconcovered comfort food, and the half beef/halfbaconburger patties.  now with three so-cal locations, the newest recently opened in point loma’s liberty station and is sure to be a hit in this beer and burger-loving city. pioneered by 29 year old owner, scott slater, slater’s 50/50 is the result of a bad economy.  when the 2008 market crash occurred, slater saw it hit the construction business and substantially slow down traffic to his over 30 hot dog stands situated outside various home depot locations around the country.

our service was fantastic, the restaurant was inviting, our food was 50/50. thumbs up for creativity, thumbs down for quality control. we started with slater's fries &baconcatsup. the fries arrived to our table cold and tasting old. thebaconcatsup was the only part of the meal we enjoyed. the flamin' hot was not. my husband's 50/50 by design must have been enjoyed by another patron, as someone else's design came to our table. he finished less than half and did not care for the strange after taste of the pattie. great ideas poorly executed. perhaps our expectations were too high. i'd rather have a habit burger.

friedbaconmac n cheese balls are an absolute just have. the vampire dip was pretty awesome too. but when it came to the burger itself, not very good. it took about 4 bites for me to completely give up on the thing. if i ever go back, i'll stick to the appetizers.

disappointing. first off, hate to burst your bubble, but their "peanut butter and jellousy" burger is not the be all end all of burgers. i found it to be just an okay flavor combination. the strawberry jelly clashed with the savory beefy flavor, and the peanut butter made the burger much too dry...i had to chew and chew and chew. i had to send back the first burger, served stone cold, but the 2nd, served hot and rare was still a miss. i've also had their "b'b'b'baconburger" and it had issues too. it was all bun really, and the bun was as hard as a rock. and weirdly enough, it lacked on bacon.
overall, their burger flavors are just off a bit and need some work. burger patties seem smaller recently than past photos i've seen of them. downsizing maybe?
service is always friendly and attentive. appetizers are excellent. beer selection is above average. theirbaconmac n' cheese balls are addictive. their onion rings juicy and perfectly cooked, served with a delicious house-made bbq sauce.
this place is okay for a bite, but despite the massive crowds and all the hype, i found the burgers fell flat on their face.
skip it.
