seriously?!. i sat at the bar for a quick bite. i was ignored by the bartender until i finally asked if i could have a menu. she begrudgingly tossed one at me then went back to talking to her friends. i asked her how the saki was there... she replied "hot or cold" good to see that the staff is trained. at that point i should have left, but i had heard good things so i opted to stay. i decided to order a bowl of udon, being that i really like udon noodles. before i describe them let me mention i was given nothing to eat my food with, a person down the bar from me tossed me a roll of utensils and a napkin. all this tookplacein front of the manager who was sitting at the bar drinking. the noodles themselves were what i'd expect, the rest... pretty bad. the broth had no flavor other than bell peppers which was about the only thing in there other than my noodles. there were a couple slices of uncooked mushrooms tossed in there. by far some of the worst udon i have ever had. the sushi i got was forgettable and possibly not so fresh. bad food and terrible service has assured i will not be returning here. i will stick with other smaller sushi places in the area.

hubby and i had lunch here a few days ago (on a week day). service was slow because there just wasn't enough employees for the number of customers in there. the gyoza soup was good but had no vegetables in it (my favorite japaneseplaceputs vegetables in theirs and it's so much better). my green tea was not hot enough to brew properly, but the teapot was pretty lol! hubby had the teriyaki chicken lunch and i tasted the chicken - it was delicious! his meal was good overall from what he said.

sakura has been a staple for me and many others in hattiesburg for years. they have always been consistent and never let me down. you can certainly get cheaper sushi around here, but you get what you pay for. the miso soup is great, the miso salad dressing is wonderful. both are consistent in my experience.

i only ever get sushi and occasionally steamed gyoza. sakura is honestly some of the best sushi i have ever had excluding maybe one or two places around the country, but it is still close. i'm no sushi connoisseur, but i do know that sakura is theplaceto go for sushi in hattiesburg.

the service is great. tommy was a wonderful waiter back in the day, and now we have danny. he is a young vietnamese guy who came here speaking no english. he supports his family with this waiting job and he is a damn good server, so take good care of him!

the food here was pretty good --- was it remarkable? no, but i didn't hate anything i had. the apple sake was amazing though, and i recommend that to anyone who goes. the hibachi chef we had was pretty fun, and we enjoyed that portion of the meal, but our waitress was a bit lacking. she kept forgetting things people at our table asked for, and we kept having to repeat requests. to be fair, we were there on a friday when it was half priced sushi, so it could just be that theplacewas busy. we also had a pretty long wait for a table, but again, they were understandably busy.

what was a bit irritating was that they sat two groups of four at our table, but instead of putting four of us on one half and four on the other, they put two from one group on either end of the hibachi and the other four person group across the middle. meaning people from the other group had to talk loudly across the table to each other to have conversations. we also had an issue when calling to make a reservation, with the person i talked to giving me different information than a friend who had called a few days before.

first sushiplacein town. this has always been my favoriteplacefor sushi during college. i haven't been in about 6 months, so i got lunch there today. i can tell the quality has gone down some, but it was still overall good.
dynamite roll - this was always the best, but today it was ok.
baked salmon roll - the flavor was good and the size was more than enough.
squid salad - very good!

not the best sushiplacein hattiesburg. i feel like they drench everything in soy sauce or some other type of sauce. prices are a little high for quality.

not my favorite sushiplacein hattiesburg. i went there for lunch on a weekday and the service was pretty slow because of the lunch rush. seems like they need to hire more help. i got a sushi and gyoza lunch box which comes with orange slices, a few veggies, a bowl of white rice and a choice of salad or miso soup. the california roll was just ok, they must have been low on crab because they doubled up on the avacado and there was hardly any crabmeat. gyoza dumplings were great though. overall thisplaceis ok, i don't really get what all the hype is about, ambiance is lacking. lighting is way too dark! i have given it 2 or 3 tries and am just not impressed. i still prefer sake cafe for lunch box or little tokyo for sushi dinner.

such a disappointment. sakura's quality has steadily declined over the past few years. after a terrible meal with my last visit, i swore i'd never go back, but decided today to give it just one more shot. never again! theplacehas an unkept appearance, and is dark, dirty looking, and smells like a fish market. not only is the facility itself a letdown, but the food has been consistently awful at every single one of my last visits (the time before last, i honestly had to spit my food into my napkin and leave). the only good thing i have to say about what was once my favorite japanese restaurant is that the servers are very friendly, although very slow.

lunch. box.. sakura is my favorite japaneseplacehands down. it might be one of those "it feels like home" sort of things, or the fact that it's where my husband and i first went out to eat together.... but it is my favorite.

i'm not living in hattiesburg right now, and my goodness, i miss sakura. sundays are made for one of their lunch boxes-- steamed gyoza and beef teriyaki... mmmm... glass of light plum wine. not to mention the sushi! the cindy roll is huge and ridiculous and delicious, and the dynamite roll is the stuff i dream of.

my family was one of the first customers at sakura years ago. having spent a few years in nyc and being exposed to some of the finest sushi restuaruants in the world i was deathly afraid to try any sushi in buffalo. i wasn't even sure the restuaraunts here even knew what sushi grade fish even was. we noticed the sign before they opened for business and went for lunch opening day. while i'm sure they were poised to make a good impression at the start, since that time many repeat visits... and other local sushi restuaraunts later... i've still confirmed that sakura maintains a friendly, well priced, upbeat, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with the absolute best sushi available anywhere in western new york. in food quality sakuri rivals many of the finer straight sushi (non japanese fusion) establishments in nyc. the staff provides excellent service. the hostess is worderful with kids, my son loves sakura.. and he was made to feel very special by the hostess and staff at his birthday dinner here. food suggestions would include the marvelous mango roll, the sakura roll, and of course their addictive california rolls. i don't care how close or far away you are... if you want awesome sushi sakura cannot be outdone. hands down, bar none, the best sushiplacein western new york.

favorite sushi in hattiesburg. their specialty rolls are what sets sakura apart from other japanese restaurants. you cannot go wrong with the hawaii roll or the cindy roll. if you're looking for a casualplaceto dine, sit on the porch or at the sushi bar. we had a great conversation with the sushi chefs about the world cup while we were dining. a+
