seriously?!. i sat at the bar for a quick bite. i was ignored by the bartender until i finally asked if i could have a menu. she begrudgingly tossed one at me then went back to talking to her friends. i asked her how the saki was there... she replied "hot or cold" good to see that the staff is trained. at that point i should have left, but i had heard good things so i opted to stay. i decided to order a bowl of udon, being that i really like udon noodles. before i describe them let me mention i was given nothing to eat myfoodwith, a person down the bar from me tossed me a roll of utensils and a napkin. all this took place in front of the manager who was sitting at the bar drinking. the noodles themselves were what i'd expect, the rest... pretty bad. the broth had no flavor other than bell peppers which was about the only thing in there other than my noodles. there were a couple slices of uncooked mushrooms tossed in there. by far some of the worst udon i have ever had. the sushi i got was forgettable and possibly not so fresh. badfoodand terrible service has assured i will not be returning here. i will stick with other smaller sushi places in the area.

thefoodhere was pretty good --- was it remarkable? no, but i didn't hate anything i had. the apple sake was amazing though, and i recommend that to anyone who goes. the hibachi chef we had was pretty fun, and we enjoyed that portion of the meal, but our waitress was a bit lacking. she kept forgetting things people at our table asked for, and we kept having to repeat requests. to be fair, we were there on a friday when it was half priced sushi, so it could just be that the place was busy. we also had a pretty long wait for a table, but again, they were understandably busy.

what was a bit irritating was that they sat two groups of four at our table, but instead of putting four of us on one half and four on the other, they put two from one group on either end of the hibachi and the other four person group across the middle. meaning people from the other group had to talk loudly across the table to each other to have conversations. we also had an issue when calling to make a reservation, with the person i talked to giving me different information than a friend who had called a few days before.

thefoodis great but.... i've had sakura a reseaonable amount of times, and i really enjoy the food. ... but that's not what i'm basing this review on. i'm basing this review on morality.

i have a friend that used to work there and they would tell me horrific stories. i don't want to go into too much detail but the owner/head chef treats some of his employees like garbage. forcing select employees to sign contracts that discriminate and signal them out. also the owner having racist, homophobic, antisemitic outbursts, as well as temper tantrums.

best sushi in buffalo. i swear there's always someone complaining. don't pay any attention to the comment about the quality going down at sakura. i have been ordering from them since they opened and theirfoodhas been consistently fantastic. anything made with their spicy sauce is just that, spicy and not for the faint of heart. i've tried all the other places in buffalo; fuji, kumo, shogun and nothing compares to sakura.

used to be my favorite..... now, not so much. sakura used to be one of my favorite, if not the favorite, sushi places around, but after about a year of not going there, i was not impressed. i felt the quality of thefoodhas gone down. i ordered the chicken teriyaki, and it said that it came with 'tempura vegetables'...it came with 2 pieces of tempura asparagus, an egg roll, and a friend hashbrown..you know, like you get at mcdonald's! not exactly what i was anticipating. also, there was only ginger ale or water as options for my 2 year old son. they should defintely look into a few more options.

unfortunately, i probably won't go back, and will continue to go to the sushi restaurant closer to my house. which is a shame, since i used to rave about them, and tell everyone to go there.

everything at sakura sushi was incredible. the spicy kani tempura, the goyza (not vegetarian or pescetarian), the cheektowaga roll, philadelphia roll, yellow tuna roll, coppa mascarpone, and dream bomba was all absolutely amazing and out of this world. this local restaurant week experience is exactly what i love about this event: i found an incredible place, tried some amazingfoodi wouldn’t normally order, and enjoyed every little thing about it! the ambiance is perfect, the service was amazing, thefoodwas fantastic, and i found 8 vegetarian rolls to come back and try.

hattiesburg
best sushi in hattiesburg. i have lived in hattiesburg for 19 years, but had never been to sakura until about a year ago. i will confess that previously i had never been a huge fan of sushi or sashimi, i didn't dislike, but i never had a craving for sushi. maybe i just pretended liked it because it was something relatively new to the south for most of my early years. recently, while back in town for a few weeks between semesters at um, my girlfriend and i were more or less forced into coming here by a friend, a friend to whom i now owe a thank you note. thefoodhas been outstanding every single time. the soups taste fresh and homemade, a perfect combination of flavors that are perfect for beginning the meal. the sushi menu is extensive, and they have many options that are unfamiliar to the typical southerner, but the staff is knowledgeable and eager to guide you through the menu. my favorite is the sushi dinner, the salmon roe is powerfully flavorful and mouth-filling but not overwhelming. the white fish is simple and fresh, an excellent way to begin your foray into raw fish. the yellow tail is my personal favorite, but the entire selection is outstanding. the tempura is also a favorite, especially since they incorporate some uncommon vegetables such as japanese pumpkin (they have a small garden out back). a bit pricey, but well worth it. give it a try.

i've been here twice. once for sushi and the second time for hibachi. the service was mediocre and thefoodisn't that good and over priced. if you're looking for sushi sori sushi down the street is better. i'd only come here for the novelty, but not if i was looking for a great meal.

hattiesburg
by far the best sushi and japanesefoodin hattiesburg. there are tons of options here, but most of them are sub-par. in my opinion, sakura is the og. aside from the sushi, i'd highly recommend their sukiyaki. from what the staff has told me, it's only ordered very rarely, which is really unfortunate. it's absolutely fantastic. order it while sitting at the sushi bar on a cold day for the best experience. you won't regret it.

bad food, bad service. i went there on saturday night, thefoodwas terrible and the service is so bad.
first we had to eat for one hour to get seated, and we had to wait for one more hour to get ourfoodthat we ordered.
we ordered sushi, as they had half-off sushi that night, so we ordered four rolls of sushi and once we got them we were unpleasantly surprised with the food. we ordered cooked sushi and we told the waitress to make sure to get us well cooked sushi (as my wife is pregnant), but when we got thefoodthe sushi was gross raw sushi and has no taste what-so-ever. so i thought it could be a mistake because they were very busy, and i decided to order more sushi and told the waitress to make sure to get us cooked sushi this time. she came back with another order of raw sushi, we told her it's not cooked and she said we don't know what cooked sushi like (so rude). she didn't even bother to say sorry we can replace the order with something else. i ate sushi a lot in many other restaurants in toledo and know how cooked sushi is. so we decided to pay and leave without eating our food, so we don't screw the night with this bad restaurant.
i e-mailed the restaurant staff through their website trying to explain to them hoe bad was the experience and they didn't even bother to reply to us. they don't even know how important customer feed back is.
i would never ever go back again, and i wouldn't advice anybody to go there especially on weekend (unless you want to wait for 2 or more hours and get the wrong order twice)

best sushi in toledo. we go to sakura for the sushi (we're not big fans of hibachi) and we love it there. the sushi is fresh and always delicious. and if you want something that's not on the menu, just tell executive chef kengo what you like. he'll create something for you.

while some other reviewers talk about rude wait staff and mediocre sushi, we haven't experienced this at all. and we go there at least twice a month. sure, it gets crazy on half-off sushi nights (after 9:30 pm). but that's typically caused by rude, obnoxious customers overindulging on drinks because they're underpaying on dinner.

we've always found thefoodand staff to be fabulous. obviously, others agree. just try to get a seat on a thursday, friday or saturday night without a wait.

fine dining? not really. i was surprised that urbanspoon lists this as $$$$ under fine dining; this is not fine dining; thefoodwas good, our server was good; but it's not in the same ranks of some of the better establishments in toledo. don't get me wrong, our experience was excellent - our server was generous and very hospitable and thefoodcame out quickly. our group expecially enjoyed the shrimp & vegitable tempura, clear mushroom soup, and the chicken hibachi. several also had sushi which was good, but maybe not great. but no complaints. the bar crowd when walking in looked a little rough; but it was a monday evening. our party would certainly go back, and although we sat at a table and not in front of the grill; the grill chef looked a little boring from other japanese steakhouses (nagoya). worth a try, and don't fret over the $$$$, the prices were reasonable...the sushi dinner was $20 and came with nine pieces of sushi, plus a california roll, soup and salad. a roll combo (choice of three rolls) was $17...i will say the roll only came with 4 pieces as opposed to 5-6 at other places.
