incredibly slow service and they got our order wrong! food is tasty though and great kiddies pkay area with a childminder. overall not bad but def need to jack up the service.

it was a special day for p and i, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and we renewed our vows. p ' s friend suggested we give this place a try and it was try an awesome place. very relaxing atmosphere, the service very pleasant. the food very fresh and the fiah melt in your mouth good. i had the combo of grilled fish and calamari and it's not a dieters portion. i asked for half salads and half rice. the rice was interesting, half white and half yellow. p had a seafood pottjie which was really delicious. the sauce was creamy and not nit overpowering that tou cannot taste the fish.. here the fish is the star of the show. our buddy elsie had a grilled hake with salads a d she enjoyed it overall and enjoyable meal.

arriving at ons huisie you can't not love it, situated right on the beach with an incredible view and a great atmosphere.
it's a great place for drinks but that's about it, don't expect great service- its below average at best.
i was most disappointed at the food, i would rather have a drink there and move on somewhere else for food.
between the 5 of us at the table each dish was worse than the next, from seafood being undercooked to simply "un"tasty food.

situated right on the beach the view is absolutely breathtaking. a variety of traditional food is served here, all very reasonably priced.

for starters we shared the fishcakes, which was a little dry for my liking. the ostrich bobotie was nice, but the egg custard was not as rich as i would have liked it. the snoek was very nice. the highlight must have been the tray of bread which had freshly baked tin bread, rooster koek and corn bread served with butter and a selection of jams. this is a great place for a lunch and i will definitely return.

beautiful view of the beach while being served a delicious meal. just make a booking before hand. i suggest that you make a booking in advanced

it used to be a traditional south african restaurant .it has lost its identity where very few traditional dishes are being served.service is in english and afrikaans does not exist.i suggest a name change that matches it's english character and service

wonderful staff friendly food very good atmosphere wonderful and you can look at the sea from the outside seating area. holiday makers made to feel very welcome

compliments to chef and staff of "ons huisie" that went above and beyond the call of duty including bringing a bowl of water for doggie.

street acrobats also entertained for a couple of minutes and i sommer gave them r50 because they are earning and not begging and they were good. if a street entertainer makes you watch - you must pay.

must try the ostrich potjie and seafood basket. :)

nice friendly staff. good food @ reasonable prices.

nice to go for a breakfast on a summer's day. service can be a bit slow if they are really busy but otherwise no complaints. food is good.

good pub style dining with a good view. the service was average, but the walk on the beach after lunch completely made up for it.

i used to go regularly to ons huisie, but had a very dreadful experience there today. after very bad service, we tipped the waitor 5% to signal him that we were unsatisfied (he messed up our order, not once checked on our table, and when asked about something to clean my fingers after some prawns, he said he would bring it, bumped into some friends outside and never brought it). so far, so normal, happens every now and then. but the waitor actually followed us to our car outside and barked at me about being undertipped. i have never seen something like that and it make me feel very uncomfortable. very disappointing experience. food was ok and luckily the great views are free, even if you don't go to the restaurant!

ons huisie , a warm ( personnel and heaters ) and a cosy restaurant in winter . we were seated and waiters ( terra and rouke* ) made sure we were seated ok. making sure un-intrusively throughout the evening that we are happy.they came to take our drinks order and gave us a few minutes to look at a great variety available on the menu. our choice was the calamari main for a restaurant at the beach. each of us had a different style cajun and grilled and was served within less than 10-12 minutes on hot/warm plates.  each portion very healthy and filling with distinct flavor and taste.  the food was exceptional and complimented chef barend for it. 


a wine to compliment the evening with good company, with a very wide selection of renowned cellars. for the sweet tooth like me a dessert or pudding , cake to tart was there for the tongue. next time i'll try the sous kleitjies, my mom's favorite pudding to dish. 


nb: even if you think they may not be busy. make a booking!

lovely breakfast spot with a view of the ocean and a lovely sea breeze. massive scones :)

we heard a lot about ons huisie and decided to go one day for early lunch. the place was busy, so if you are a big group, best to make a booking. the view is stunning - beach front, and my calamari soft and delicious. my hubby had a cheese rib burger, and this was the only let down, as his burger at a piece of plastic (prob from the cheese) on it. we told the waiter and he apologized but that was that.

we will probably go back and try it again.
