so on a whim i decided to get my hair cut while i was in omaha. i was asking about restaurants and this one was recommended as a place i could go sit and relax for lunch. it was amazing. the waiter was helpful with mywineselection, the hummus platter was a perfect lunch (also a suggestion from laura at curb appeal). small, cozy, intimate, and great food. a definite must in omaha.

i've been coming here for years. it nice simple french fare at reasonable prices. local honest food. the front seems to be awineshop and bar. there's a cook behind the bar with a small oven and limited space. you only realize after going down to the restroom that there is a full kitchen down stairs that they pre prep the food in during the day.

i visited la buvette for lunch and had a great experiece. the waiter was attentive but not hovering. i enjoyed their borscht, which was fresh and warm, and their la buvette salad, which also was fresh and perfectly lightly dressed. the breads served alongside were very good and a dry rosewineon the menu was a perfect accomapnimnet. along with the bistro is a deli that has a great selection of cheese, meats and wines.

fabulous! always come on special occasions. last wednesday for my birthday . everything was perfect. best cheese plate in omaha, never a dud. had the egg gratin & paris ham and the hazelnut chocolate torte. a spanish garnacha rounded out the meal. we go more often on non- special event dates and are never disappointed

try it; you'll love it!. la buvette is our favorite restaurant in all of omaha. it's been well over a year since my first review of this restaurant. it's still the place we go most often; mostly for a late lunch. we usually start with the cheese plate and a bottle of wine. they serve up three different cheeses with their fresh homemade breads and creamy butter and a few fresh slices of onion, tomatoes and cucumber. they switch out the cheeses, so it's an interesting surprise every week. we could stop there, but the menu changes so we are always interested in new menu items. we are rarely disappointed. the duck cassoulet is outstanding. i'm hoping they'll bring back the braised oxtail soon. it is my all time favorite. we normally eat inside; smokers eat outside. we still get the outside feel because they open up the wall to the street. the waiters/waitresses are very knowledgeable of the menu items. the staff is small and works extraordinarily hard for their customers. if it's crowded, your service may be slow, but we are very okay with that. we are there for a leisurely meal and like to take our time.

suberp every time!. we lunched at this restaurant several times. every time, and i meant every time, the food is superb. we usually order the cheese plate which comes with glorious bread and creamy butter. we savor every bite with a nice robust red wine. we’ve had the trout, rabbit, duck, lamb,...all of it so wonderfully cooked and savory. no matter how crowded it is, one never feels rushed. we like that. so, don’t go to this restaurant and think you’ll be served in a hurry...not going to happen. rest, enjoy and savor your well cooked meals. the prices are reasonable and the service kind.

wonderful!. a dear friend recommended this quaint little bistro in old towne omaha so we decided to try it one saturday afternoon. we arrive around 1:00 and it was packed by 2:00. outdoor seating is available, but it was still a bit to cool for us. it is awineand liquor store that also sells cheeses, breads, and deli stuff. we ordered a glass ofwineeach (served in small glasses) as we waited for our orders. you will not be rushed, which is what we like. we ordered the mixed meat plate for an appetizer and haricote vert with carpacio and braised oxtail with mashed parsnips. i think the bread is made in ovens in the basement…fabulous, served with fresh soft butter. we both loved the appetizer and our entrees. absolutely relaxing lunch. the oxtail is very rich and melts in your mouth.
just one warning…the restrooms are down a narrow stairwell and i almost tripped on a flattened box at the top of the stairs. it had slid out from where they stack their cardboard. it's a very old building so just watch your step!
we'll be going back!!!

awesome experience - not your typical quick in and out diner. this is not your typical american diner. i was warned that you come here to relax and enjoy people, not get a quick bite and leave and that sounded delightful so i came leisurely and still messed up ha.

the first time i went was a sunday afternoon, the service was not great. i was hungry and was interested in a menu! little did i know that they open in the mornings to serve coffee and a snack but don't actually make food until lunch!
i had brought a book and noticed several other people had come solo as well and were reading the paper and just writing things.

the second time i went was fantastic. the service here is hands off on purpose, i believe, but our waitress was attentive and very nice. they apologized that they brought us our food so soon, if i remember correctly, which was interesting. this is a great date spot of you have a leisurely night and just want to much on things and drinkwineand have a nice night out. i will again warn you, do not come here and expect 11-worth cafe. they are simply different beasts. definitely recommend

simple & lovely. i've been to la buvette twice now in the last month. both experiences were absolutely lovely. the interior is charming and cozy. you're surrounded by shelving full of an assortment of wines, whiskey etc. the service has been very pleasant and friendly both times. the menu is simple (i like that the daily menu is handwritten) the food has been nothing short of delicious both visits. my favorite so far is the open face toasted veggie sandwich with a wild greens salad. the prices are very reasonable. my entire meal (sandwich , salad & 2 glasses ofwinewas less than $20) house wines range from 5-7 dollars (though i've discovered it's less costly to buy one of the $10 bottles off the shelf if you've got company.) very pleased. i'll definitely be a returning patron.

not the same. used to love la buvette's but recently they put ash trays on the tables and it has attracted all the smokers who are unable to smoke at other outdoor venues in the old market. tonight there were 3 tables of smokers....rude, rude, rude. we were trying to enjoy our dinner but these smokers don't give a .... going to jackson street tavern...greatwineand good food!

incrediblewineselection, great little dishes. don t be in a hurry to eat, relax, drink some wine, talk, order, have some more wine, eat some cheese and cured meats, laugh. basically have a lazy afternoon with friends and get goofy, people watch, snack, enjoy.

got it's pro's and cons. still the great atmosphere andwineselection that i have enjoyed over the last several years, but the service has completely went down hill (for the most part). i can do without the hipster attitudes that some of the staff have. overall, a great place to chill, people watch and get some fresh air while having a glass of wine.

the buve is the greatest secret in omaha. thewineselection is fantastic and it is not marked up ridiculously. i love the service there an have only wonderful things to say about the knowledge and attitudes of the staff. this place is based off of the european style of relaxing and enjoying your time. the service is suppose to be slow paced and relaxed. do not go here and expect to hurry through a meal, that is not what this place is about.

fantastic...if you can find a seat.. thewineselection is vast, and the cheese selection is great as well. the steamed mussels are delish and require extra bread to soak up the juices at the end. i wouldn't rely on this to be your entire supper. it's better as a place to enjoy somewineand grab a snack with some friends. nice outdoor seating area as well.

abysmal service. i have been a lover of la buvette for some time; theirwineselection is stellar, and the service is often adequate, but my most recent visit was so atrocious that i cannot find myself going there again. my server was so rude and dismissive that another table got up and left without ordering food. we got our food and then were ignored for more than two hours. when i voiced my concerns to another employee (no managers were present), i was told that there was nothing wrong with my service--that this was, in effect, what should be expected. both employees i dealt with were hostilely unhelpful.
