la buvette wine bar & delicatessen

decent food but lousy service. should have read the reviews re' quality of service before dining. rude staff and slow service. food wasgoodbut not did not outweigh the overall negative experience.

feeling like smug and parisian we say for our first visit to la buvette. it's been on my list for a while and we wanted to sit outside to enjoy the wonderful weather today. the covered walkways of ye olde market made for a delightful, lazy, mid-afternoon lunch/snack. service wasgoodwhen around. we asked for two glasses of dry red wine; the server on initiative brought out two different glasses so if one of us didn't like one, we could have the other which we felt was very thoughtful. i had beef tongue over mashed potatoes with caramelized onions and my guest had a cheese plate of cheddar, triple cream brie and another cheese all to our satisfaction. somehow the beef tongue was surprising, but still a texture i would expect of a tongue. the dishes came with bread baked daily. not bad. glad we went.

i visited la buvette for lunch and had a great experiece. the waiter was attentive but not hovering. i enjoyed their borscht, which was fresh and warm, and their la buvette salad, which also was fresh and perfectly lightly dressed. the breads served alongside were verygoodand a dry rose wine on the menu was a perfect accomapnimnet. along with the bistro is a deli that has a great selection of cheese, meats and wines.

not the same. used to love la buvette's but recently they put ash trays on the tables and it has attracted all the smokers who are unable to smoke at other outdoor venues in the old market. tonight there were 3 tables of smokers....rude, rude, rude. we were trying to enjoy our dinner but these smokers don't give a .... going to jackson street tavern...great wine andgoodfood!

great food, lousy lousy service. we were passing through omaha and found this place for my wife's birthday. the setting in town and interior ambiance is great. the food was excellent - real food prepared under high standards and authentic to my experience. however, the service was ridiculous. an angry midwestern girl left us sitting alone for 15 minutes (really, and we should have left but we were excited about the food, which must be why most people tolerate being treated so poorly), and by the time she came back to us - this is to bring us water, take a beverage order, and blow us off for another five minutes - the two main course meals were gone leaving us with salads and apps as our only choices. twenty five minutes after entering the building we ordered our apps. because the food was sogoodi care enough to write this - get real service, drop the pretension, and step up to a higher high.

gustatory. watering and wining. see and be seen.goodselection of wines. interesting menu. pretend you are in paris. enjoy, do not rush.

perfect lunch!. my wife and i had a beautiful lunch experience this sunday afternoon at la buvette (2011.10.23). beautiful weather (probably one of the last days in the high 60s for the year) was the icing on the cake. the service and food were simply awesome and the atmosphere is (as most already know) so nice and quaint. the place was pretty much filled to capacity the whole time we were there, and the one cook and waiter pulled it all off admirably. food was served quite fast and fresh, and the waiter was never far when we needed something. when i was paying the check i asked him how the two of them pulled if off, and he just said, 'it's crazy'. it never showed. he got agoodtip.

i'm a native omahan and la buvette has been around as long as i can remember; but it (embarrassingly) took me to reach my 40s before i finally "got" this place.

they're easily now in my top 5.

food isgood- if you get it. while the atmosphere, food, and wine selection are great it just isn't that great of a place. the service ruins it. such rude, lazy and incompetent staff. the owner is not much better. probably one of the most arrogent people i have ever met. doesn't care about customer service, just money. i personally don't see what is so great about this place or why people are willing to put up with such bad service. i gave this place several chances but it is just not that good.

ooh lala. we went for our 1st anniversary & enjoyed it. we were getting ready for a trip to france, so thought it would begoodto try french food. we had a $50 gift certificate & had a hard time spending it all as everything was so affordable! we had a couple bottles of wine, dessert, appitizer & dinner. great evening out!!

la buvette, oh how i love thee. la buvette is one of my absolute faves in omaha. i almost don't want to review it highly, because i already have a hard enough time snagging one of my coveted patio tables.

wonderful place to sit and people-watch and drink a bottle of red. smoking is allowed on the patio. except for some of the more amusing and "omaha-ish" passersby, i can almost pretend i'm sitting in paris in the 5eme again. then again, the amusing passersby make forgoodentertainment. :)

the menu is small and changes daily. i love when i see their buttery, tender and perfectly cooked escargot on it. i have also had several other wonderful dishes here, including a memorably wonderful garlic pasta with spinach. if you don't want to eat dinner, you can just get wonderful fresh bread and cheese with your wine.

service is efficient and not overly-fake-friendly, my favorite kind.

in short, go to la buvette and go some more, but don't take my patio table, please. :)
