no otherplacelike this. there is no otherplacelike buvette in omaha. truly a gem... service can suck, be polite, be prepared to wait for service, but food and atmosphere compensate for all the flaws... sit back, relax and pretend you're a part of the bourgeoisie

today i went for lunch at thisplacethat use to my favoriteplacein downtown because i am european -american and i enjoyed the european vibe.
not after what happened here today.
the waitress broke my $270 pair of sunglasses taking the menu off the table. she asked the manager to talk to me and apart of being very rude to me, he called me names like crazy and nuts. he is the gm - mr. darech gaskill. i had a witness at my table that can confirm that i was only polite asking him how can he make this right. i would like to ask mr. darech gaskill: did you treat me that poor and without professionalism just because, or this is the way you know how to run your business?

so on a whim i decided to get my hair cut while i was in omaha. i was asking about restaurants and this one was recommended as aplacei could go sit and relax for lunch. it was amazing. the waiter was helpful with my wine selection, the hummus platter was a perfect lunch (also a suggestion from laura at curb appeal). small, cozy, intimate, and great food. a definite must in omaha.

went here for dinner while in town on business, just wandered in from the old market area. thisplacewas delightful... with little pretense, a simple menu, and casual atmosphere.

i really enjoyed this place.... a lot. they have a simple, more european fare. bread and butter plate, wine, cheese and meat plates. don't come here if your in the mood for dennys or applebees. do come here to chat, nosh, and savor the flavors.

fabulous! always come on special occasions. last wednesday for my birthday . everything was perfect. best cheese plate in omaha, never a dud. had the egg gratin & paris ham and the hazelnut chocolate torte. a spanish garnacha rounded out the meal. we go more often on non- special event dates and are never disappointed

try it; you'll love it!. la buvette is our favorite restaurant in all of omaha. it's been well over a year since my first review of this restaurant. it's still theplacewe go most often; mostly for a late lunch. we usually start with the cheese plate and a bottle of wine. they serve up three different cheeses with their fresh homemade breads and creamy butter and a few fresh slices of onion, tomatoes and cucumber. they switch out the cheeses, so it's an interesting surprise every week. we could stop there, but the menu changes so we are always interested in new menu items. we are rarely disappointed. the duck cassoulet is outstanding. i'm hoping they'll bring back the braised oxtail soon. it is my all time favorite. we normally eat inside; smokers eat outside. we still get the outside feel because they open up the wall to the street. the waiters/waitresses are very knowledgeable of the menu items. the staff is small and works extraordinarily hard for their customers. if it's crowded, your service may be slow, but we are very okay with that. we are there for a leisurely meal and like to take our time.

suberp every time!. we lunched at this restaurant several times. every time, and i meant every time, the food is superb. we usually order the cheese plate which comes with glorious bread and creamy butter. we savor every bite with a nice robust red wine. we’ve had the trout, rabbit, duck, lamb,...all of it so wonderfully cooked and savory. no matter how crowded it is, one never feels rushed. we like that. so, don’t go to this restaurant and think you’ll be served in a hurry...not going to happen. rest, enjoy and savor your well cooked meals. the prices are reasonable and the service kind.

wonderful!. a dear friend recommended this quaint little bistro in old towne omaha so we decided to try it one saturday afternoon. we arrive around 1:00 and it was packed by 2:00. outdoor seating is available, but it was still a bit to cool for us. it is a wine and liquor store that also sells cheeses, breads, and deli stuff. we ordered a glass of wine each (served in small glasses) as we waited for our orders. you will not be rushed, which is what we like. we ordered the mixed meat plate for an appetizer and haricote vert with carpacio and braised oxtail with mashed parsnips. i think the bread is made in ovens in the basement…fabulous, served with fresh soft butter. we both loved the appetizer and our entrees. absolutely relaxing lunch. the oxtail is very rich and melts in your mouth.
just one warning…the restrooms are down a narrow stairwell and i almost tripped on a flattened box at the top of the stairs. it had slid out from where they stack their cardboard. it's a very old building so just watch your step!
we'll be going back!!!

great food, lousy lousy service. we were passing through omaha and found thisplacefor my wife's birthday. the setting in town and interior ambiance is great. the food was excellent - real food prepared under high standards and authentic to my experience. however, the service was ridiculous. an angry midwestern girl left us sitting alone for 15 minutes (really, and we should have left but we were excited about the food, which must be why most people tolerate being treated so poorly), and by the time she came back to us - this is to bring us water, take a beverage order, and blow us off for another five minutes - the two main course meals were gone leaving us with salads and apps as our only choices. twenty five minutes after entering the building we ordered our apps. because the food was so good i care enough to write this - get real service, drop the pretension, and step up to a higher high.

got it's pro's and cons. still the great atmosphere and wine selection that i have enjoyed over the last several years, but the service has completely went down hill (for the most part). i can do without the hipster attitudes that some of the staff have. overall, a greatplaceto chill, people watch and get some fresh air while having a glass of wine.

the buve is the greatest secret in omaha. the wine selection is fantastic and it is not marked up ridiculously. i love the service there an have only wonderful things to say about the knowledge and attitudes of the staff. thisplaceis based off of the european style of relaxing and enjoying your time. the service is suppose to be slow paced and relaxed. do not go here and expect to hurry through a meal, that is not what thisplaceis about.

perfect lunch!. my wife and i had a beautiful lunch experience this sunday afternoon at la buvette (2011.10.23). beautiful weather (probably one of the last days in the high 60s for the year) was the icing on the cake. the service and food were simply awesome and the atmosphere is (as most already know) so nice and quaint. theplacewas pretty much filled to capacity the whole time we were there, and the one cook and waiter pulled it all off admirably. food was served quite fast and fresh, and the waiter was never far when we needed something. when i was paying the check i asked him how the two of them pulled if off, and he just said, 'it's crazy'. it never showed. he got a good tip.

i'm a native omahan and la buvette has been around as long as i can remember; but it (embarrassingly) took me to reach my 40s before i finally "got" this place.

they're easily now in my top 5.

i thoroughly enjoyed my dine here. it is very layed back. i read that they don't have enough wait staff. i don't think that is the case. they only have one cook. so yea it's gonna take some time to get your food. im a line cook. i know how busy it can get. but the food was great. i love the feel of the atmosphere. i sat and wrote a letter so the fact that they only had one cook worked great. this is aplaceyou should go when not in a rush. be ready to enjoy your company or your book. highly recommend. oh and it helps if your a foodie. i had a salad with sautéed chicken livers.

fantastic...if you can find a seat.. the wine selection is vast, and the cheese selection is great as well. the steamed mussels are delish and require extra bread to soak up the juices at the end. i wouldn't rely on this to be your entire supper. it's better as aplaceto enjoy some wine and grab a snack with some friends. nice outdoor seating area as well.

eclectic.... i had a few glasses of wine, and the meat and cheese plate. thisplacewouldn't survive anywhere else, than in the old market. poor service, with mediocre wine. the meat was dry from sitting out for too long. yet, i would go back. it's an atmosphere thing. we were a little buzzed, and it all just worked that evening...

food is good - if you get it. while the atmosphere, food, and wine selection are great it just isn't that great of a place. the service ruins it. such rude, lazy and incompetent staff. the owner is not much better. probably one of the most arrogent people i have ever met. doesn't care about customer service, just money. i personally don't see what is so great about thisplaceor why people are willing to put up with such bad service. i gave thisplaceseveral chances but it is just not that good.
