terrible customer service. the staff at labuvetteneed serious attitude adjustments and customer service training. when i called to see if they take reservations the woman who answered the phone said no and then proceeded to be curt, short and impatient answering even a single follow up question. then when i asked about the restaurant she told me to "go online." then when i said i had done that but still had questions, she said "well i don't know what to tell you" and then hung up.

wow, now i know where not to spend money, take corporate clients or make referrals!

no other place like this. there is no other place likebuvettein omaha. truly a gem... service can suck, be polite, be prepared to wait for service, but food and atmosphere compensate for all the flaws... sit back, relax and pretend you're a part of the bourgeoisie

i visited labuvettefor lunch and had a great experiece. the waiter was attentive but not hovering. i enjoyed their borscht, which was fresh and warm, and their labuvettesalad, which also was fresh and perfectly lightly dressed. the breads served alongside were very good and a dry rose wine on the menu was a perfect accomapnimnet. along with the bistro is a deli that has a great selection of cheese, meats and wines.

fabulous! always come on special occasions. last wednesday for my birthday . everything was perfect. best cheese plate in omaha, never a dud. had the egg gratin & paris ham and the hazelnut chocolate torte. a spanish garnacha rounded out the meal. we go more often on non- special event dates and are never disappointed

try it; you'll love it!. labuvetteis our favorite restaurant in all of omaha. it's been well over a year since my first review of this restaurant. it's still the place we go most often; mostly for a late lunch. we usually start with the cheese plate and a bottle of wine. they serve up three different cheeses with their fresh homemade breads and creamy butter and a few fresh slices of onion, tomatoes and cucumber. they switch out the cheeses, so it's an interesting surprise every week. we could stop there, but the menu changes so we are always interested in new menu items. we are rarely disappointed. the duck cassoulet is outstanding. i'm hoping they'll bring back the braised oxtail soon. it is my all time favorite. we normally eat inside; smokers eat outside. we still get the outside feel because they open up the wall to the street. the waiters/waitresses are very knowledgeable of the menu items. the staff is small and works extraordinarily hard for their customers. if it's crowded, your service may be slow, but we are very okay with that. we are there for a leisurely meal and like to take our time.

suberp every time!. we lunched at this restaurant several times. every time, and i meant every time, the food is superb. we usually order the cheese plate which comes with glorious bread and creamy butter. we savor every bite with a nice robust red wine. we’ve had the trout, rabbit, duck, lamb,...all of it so wonderfully cooked and savory. no matter how crowded it is, one never feels rushed. we like that. so, don’t go to this restaurant and think you’ll be served in a hurry...not going to happen. rest, enjoy and savor your well cooked meals. the prices are reasonable and the service kind.

wonderful!. a dear friend recommended this quaint little bistro in old towne omaha so we decided to try it one saturday afternoon. we arrive around 1:00 and it was packed by 2:00. outdoor seating is available, but it was still a bit to cool for us. it is a wine and liquor store that also sells cheeses, breads, and deli stuff. we ordered a glass of wine each (served in small glasses) as we waited for our orders. you will not be rushed, which is what we like. we ordered the mixed meat plate for an appetizer and haricote vert with carpacio and braised oxtail with mashed parsnips. i think the bread is made in ovens in the basement…fabulous, served with fresh soft butter. we both loved the appetizer and our entrees. absolutely relaxing lunch. the oxtail is very rich and melts in your mouth.
just one warning…the restrooms are down a narrow stairwell and i almost tripped on a flattened box at the top of the stairs. it had slid out from where they stack their cardboard. it's a very old building so just watch your step!
we'll be going back!!!

simple & lovely. i've been to labuvettetwice now in the last month. both experiences were absolutely lovely. the interior is charming and cozy. you're surrounded by shelving full of an assortment of wines, whiskey etc. the service has been very pleasant and friendly both times. the menu is simple (i like that the daily menu is handwritten) the food has been nothing short of delicious both visits. my favorite so far is the open face toasted veggie sandwich with a wild greens salad. the prices are very reasonable. my entire meal (sandwich , salad & 2 glasses of wine was less than $20) house wines range from 5-7 dollars (though i've discovered it's less costly to buy one of the $10 bottles off the shelf if you've got company.) very pleased. i'll definitely be a returning patron.

a favorite from the olden days. we used to look forward to splurging at labuvetteback in the '90s, i think, when we used to get away from central iowa. it worries me that someone mentions "hipster" as to the service. i remember totally down to earth men and women with great personalities. we 're planning to visit this month and i'd better get my wonderful no-airs service! it's the old market district, for goodness sake!

perfect lunch!. my wife and i had a beautiful lunch experience this sunday afternoon at labuvette(2011.10.23). beautiful weather (probably one of the last days in the high 60s for the year) was the icing on the cake. the service and food were simply awesome and the atmosphere is (as most already know) so nice and quaint. the place was pretty much filled to capacity the whole time we were there, and the one cook and waiter pulled it all off admirably. food was served quite fast and fresh, and the waiter was never far when we needed something. when i was paying the check i asked him how the two of them pulled if off, and he just said, 'it's crazy'. it never showed. he got a good tip.

i'm a native omahan and labuvettehas been around as long as i can remember; but it (embarrassingly) took me to reach my 40s before i finally "got" this place.

they're easily now in my top 5.

fantastic, but.... my wife had some very bad mussels.

this is our first trip to omaha and i can't begin to say how impressed i am by labuvetteand the selection of restaurants in the old market. we started with the pate de campagne, which was delicious. studded with pistachios and served with grainy mustard and cornichons, this was a perfect start. our wine, which i picked from the store's shalves, was a wonderful spanish red from aragon.

my wife opted for the mussels and is paying the price for some bad ones. she did, however, enjoy them before they struck. i tried the ox tail, and found it the best since i'd last had it in spain.

the next time i'm in omaha, i'll be back at la buvette.

abysmal service. i have been a lover of labuvettefor some time; their wine selection is stellar, and the service is often adequate, but my most recent visit was so atrocious that i cannot find myself going there again. my server was so rude and dismissive that another table got up and left without ordering food. we got our food and then were ignored for more than two hours. when i voiced my concerns to another employee (no managers were present), i was told that there was nothing wrong with my service--that this was, in effect, what should be expected. both employees i dealt with were hostilely unhelpful.

la buvette, oh how i love thee. labuvetteis one of my absolute faves in omaha. i almost don't want to review it highly, because i already have a hard enough time snagging one of my coveted patio tables.

wonderful place to sit and people-watch and drink a bottle of red. smoking is allowed on the patio. except for some of the more amusing and "omaha-ish" passersby, i can almost pretend i'm sitting in paris in the 5eme again. then again, the amusing passersby make for good entertainment. :)

the menu is small and changes daily. i love when i see their buttery, tender and perfectly cooked escargot on it. i have also had several other wonderful dishes here, including a memorably wonderful garlic pasta with spinach. if you don't want to eat dinner, you can just get wonderful fresh bread and cheese with your wine.

service is efficient and not overly-fake-friendly, my favorite kind.

in short, go to labuvetteand go some more, but don't take my patio table, please. :)
