second visit review:i joined a friend for breakfast on a cold saturday morning. we arrived at 8:00 am to a mostly empty dining room. when we left at 9:00 am, it was already more than half full and getting busy with the brunch crowd.
iorderedthe biscuit with chorizo gravy, while my friendorderedthe breakfast bowl. i thought that the chorizo gravy was executed well. it was thick but not goopy. its orange color showed that it was truly chorizo gravy. the kitchen staff split the biscuit, topped the bottom half of the biscuit with gravy, added a chorizo sausage patty on top of that, and then artfully laid the top half of the biscuit on top of that. it was a dry biscuit; in my opinion, that is just the right thing to use when you want a biscuit with gravy. if the biscuit is too buttery, then you get too much richness. with the closing of buttermilk in the paseo, this is the only place in the metro area that i have visited that offers a dry biscuit. a little hot sauce added some extra heat, but others may think that the heat from the chorizo is fine just the way it is.
my friend enjoyed the breakfast bowl. after he mixed in the two sunny-side-up eggs, he commented that it looked rather unappetizing but tasted exactly the opposite. he was particularly impressed with the brussels sprouts. it is difficult to get brussels sprouts into the delicate state between raw and mushy, and kitchen 324 knows how to get it right.
there is still plenty to try on this menu, so i will be back. it's also nice that to get a 10% discount with my keep it local card.
first visit review:
shiny on the outside, good tasting on the inside. i've walked by this restaurant a few times since it opened and was impressed with what i could see by looking in. i also heard good reviews from all of my friends. i was not disappointed.
iorderedthe evoo cured tuna salad. it scared me when it came out because i didn't know what "cured" meant and was expecting regular canned tuna. instead, i got a salt cured tuna steak that was mostly pink. my server assured me that it was safe to eat despite its color. it was mildly salty - certainly less salty than the olives included in the salad. altogether, this salad is a pleasing marriage of flavors -- bitterness from the arugula, saltiness from the tuna and olives, and sweet/sour from the grapefruit. the cucumbers add some crunch.
i got good service, too. i prefer wheat over white bread. i asked my server if i could substitute a slice of wheat bread for the standard white baguette that comes with this salad, and he gladly fulfilled my requestwith a slice of their multigrain bread. the bread came out toasted, which brought out the mild nuttiness of the bread.
