everything is excellent from thefoodto the service. the ny strip was amazing. great service from john.

greatfoodbut horrible @ reception!. thefoodwas great but the reception desk lost my check-in information and then wanted to argue about whether or not i checked in. while i realize they get busy and chaotic, they need to manage this process in a more efficient manner for this caliber of eating establishment. and not bicker with the guest! thefoodisn't worth it!

hillstone gives you full visibility to pretty much their entire operation.  as you can see from the upper photo, you can see right back into the preparation area.  i just stood there after dinner for a few minutes, because it was like watching a show onfoodchannel or travel channel.

the mayan calendar was correct, it was like the end of the world on friday december 21, 2012 when i walked into hillstone after driving in from santa fe like i have for for 20 years my first stop for some amazingfoodand terrific service and banter from the bartender jodee. she was no where to be found. after some questioning we discovered she no longer works there, what a disappointment. the wind had been let out of my sails and the service at the bar disappointing. it took forever to be attended to the service was appalling. there were more people behind the bar than i have ever scene and still the service was dismal, slow and inattentive. nothing like i remember from previous visits.foodis still excellent, customer service was in the weeds.

loved our service. jamie c was excellent. thefoodwas great & everyone was so accommodating with the baby. even a hot towel to wipe him down with afterwards. wow! definately coming back!

loved houstons...but this hillstone upgrade is undeniably superb. the architecture- bringing the outdoor indoors; the staff- my bartender had been w/the company 23yrs! these arefoodindustry professionals; and thefoodis always sooooo well done- my swordfish w/gingerbutter and heirloom cauliflower was prefect! i seriously wanna move in and never leave.

this place is great! the service is okay, but thefoodis phenomenal. i f you are going there for the first time order the french dip with fries or coleslaw(both are great), and if you are getting an appetizer order the spinach and artichoke dip it is the best.

good experience/weird outfits. i had a really good experience except a couple things. i realllllly enjoyed the food. i had to wait about an hour to eat but it was definitely worth it. the only thing i did not enjoy was the fact that my server hadfoodstains all over his shirt. it was gross because the shirts are pure white and so you could see every little stain that was on it. it kind of grossed me out and i wanted to tell a manager that it would look better if they wore all black but i did not have a chance to find one.
besides that i would definitely recommend it!

great ambiance. thefoodwas excellent. i had the center cut filet. cook perfectly. the service was outstanding. i'd definitely revisit if and when i get back to phoenix. i absolutely loved the layout in the place. very modern and upscale.

a great choice. five of us had dinner during the middle of the dinner hour and the staff did a terrific job throughout. everybody was well trained to ensure the table was continuously cleared, drinks were filled, the works. we were not restricted to a few staff but it was understood among them that everyone worked for every table. thefoodwas terrific. they even had a stupendous house-made veggie burger. yes, i said veggie burger. the filet salad was tops. the cous cous was the best. if you have not been there yet you're missing a real treat.

way down hill. houston's was great-hillstone no. great job with interior but did they fire the cook staff or what?? the food-from hamburger to caesar salad to fish- is much worse. also, they have a problem bringing the right entree.foodhas gone from great to below average and staff has been added that is not up to previous level.

houstons has moved across the street and has renamed themselves hilstone. same greatfoodand service with the addition of sushi to their menu. still my favorite restaurant in town! keep serving it up!!!!

can't go past the salmon appetizer. i've resisted reviewing houston's for maybe 2 years now. i absolutely cannot get past the smoked salmon appetizer!!
i found that if i don't share it among the table, there is just enough for me to be fully satisfied as a main meal.. yes a little odd, but it is absolutely too good to share. having lived in the nw for a number of years, i thought i had the best smoked salmon, until i got here. in fact one night we ordered an appetizer to share, and i got another as my main... it is simply that good.

as for the rest of thefood- i can't really say; i have never been able to get past the smoked salmon.
i'm told the salads are good as well as the steaks (maybe one day)

this place is so cool, that..... they don't even have to put the numbers behind the decimal point on the menu! totally generic, but it seems everyone is in love with this place. prices make you wish you were at a restaurant withfoodto match the inflation. wedge salad, artichoke dip....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......so many great restaurants in town there's no reason to waste your time here. if this is your favorite place, you owe it to yourself to wake up and smell the roses....there's realfoodout there!
