jennifer and i had lunch at hearth pizza. it's in the whole foods shopping center on always-crowded roswell road. the atmosphere is upscale casual. the decor is rich, dark woods. the bar is central to the space and it has its share of tv screens but they aren't too obtrusive. the walls sport photos of some of the most famous new york pizza venues. we started with salads and some meatballs. the meatballs were rich and moist and the tomato sauce was of the fresh variety, populated by small chunks of tomato. we then followed with a pizza. beware, their pizzas are fairly small. their larger size was just enough for both of us. the pizza was ok but not, in my humble view, entirely worthy of the surroundings. the crust didn't have the chewy/crusty combination that is the essence of new york pizza. we also found the service to be a little spotty; we generally had to ask for help rather than being checked on. overall, come here for the atmosphere, not the food.

we love hearth, and go just about every other sunday. their pizza is fabulous...fresh ingredients. i always get the fungi (mushrooms, spinach, kalamata) and last time i added broccoli. yum yum yum!! their salads are great and you have to try the mac n cheese with pancetta. it is orgasmic. yeah, i said it. try it, you'll understand.

loved it!. went here for my birthday meal and was very impressed. had the muscles which were great. tasty without relying on garlic. make sure to get more bread, you'll want to soak up the juice from the broth.

had the "great white clam" pizza, loved it, a 10
had the "ring of fire", good, very good, a 7.5
had the "omg", "oh my garlic", pretty good, others at the table loved it., i think 7, they thought 8.

loved the look, loved the feel, loved the food.

was told 4-6 pm was half price pizza, we are going back for sure.

what makes a "favorite" restaurant?. my husband and i live in sandy springs, and we've been going to hearth since it opened. i can only say great things. the food is delicious, the atmosphere is convivial and fun, and the people who work there are extremely nice. sometimes my husband and i talk about how to define one's "favorite" restaurant. is it the fanciest, most impressive haute-cuisine restaurant you've ever been to? or is it the place you find yourself wanting to go again and again-on your best day or your worst-because you feel comforted, warmed, and cheered by the experience and meal? and we decide that between those 2 definitions, there's no contest. hearth wins the title of "our favorite restaurant" every time.

excellent pizza, excellent service. rarely are staff very knowledgeable in food and alcohol, this place has both. we have eaten at some great pizzerias here and abroad, and have to honestly say this place ranks as top 5 ever. definitely will come back. wish more places were like this. great job!

wowzas, these are some loaded up pizzas. very topping driven. while i’m more of a dough guy, a huge dose of greasy and flavorful toppings (sausage and peppers and mushrooms and cilantro and chili oil, oh my!) can be real enjoyable. the dough did it’s job – which in this case was to sustain the large mass of said toppings. slightly above average dough flavor. everything tasted good, but again, don’t expect the vpn style…it’s more like delicious and creative hangover pie.

good food, rude owner. a good friend of mine is a regular patron of hearth. in fact, she tells everyone she knows to eat there. she recently made a reservation to celebrate her 75th birthday at hearth. the gm was gracious and very accomodating when he took the reservation. she called back yesterday to confirm the reservation and spoke with the owner, dave pazienza. mr. pazienza told her he would not honor the reservation because it is the policy of hearth not to accept reservations on a saturday. she explained the occasion and explained that she cannot stand without a cane only to be told she would have to "figure it out" on her own whether she stood or sat while she waited. i am appalled that the owner of any restaurant would treat any patron this way, especially one of the loyal diners who helped make his restaurant a sandy springs success story. needless to say, we will never eat at hearth again. it is sad how a rude owner can be the undoing of such a good restaurant.

this is the perfect little pizza tavern for a date or the family. great casual yet trendy environment and fantastic thin-crust pizza charred in all the right places. bar was well stocked which was an added bonus.

didn't get to eat!!. we went there tonight hoping for a good experience. unfortunately, we left before we even got our food. after waiting for 15-20 minutes for a seat, we were seated at the end of a table at the rear of the restaurant. we realized very quickly that the seats were freezing. when we asked our waiter about this, he said that it was because they kept a door open nearby, and the cold air blows in (it's january!). when we said that we didn't want to sit there and freeze, he said he would take care of it. so we got up and headed to the bar to wait for a table to open up. after seeing several people get seated, we went to the hostess and asked about seating us. we were told that we were not even on the list, and if we wanted to get back on the list we would be put at the end of the list, because we were given a seat already (regardless of whether one could tolerate the open door nearby). apparently, the lesson here is that you get punished for getting stuck in a horrible seat and requesting to move. the attitude of the host and hostess was clearly one of "we don't care if you're in a bad seat and don't ask us to move." we quickly left the restaurant, concluding that other restaurants would welcome our dollars.

ps: on a positive note, we called the manager/owner after we returned home. he was apologetic and told us that the treatment we received was not their policy, and that he hoped we would come back on the house.

so good!. drove by this place for a year before finally trying it last night and kinda upset with myself for not stopping in sooner! great beer list and manly cocktails served by the sweetest bartender who made sure i wanted for nothing. started with a watermelon and arugula salad that was very refreshing and spot on, next came an unbelievable pizza that of course i created with an exceptional list of items to choose from. i grew up in chicago and lived in sf and ny...three great pizza towns, this place could rival some of the best out there.
crisp crust, a perfect sauce that complimented the ingredients and didn't make the pizza soupy like some sauces tend to do...can't wait to go again and try some other pizza creations!!!
