this is my favorite pizza place in atlanta, i am a huge fan of wood-fired pizzas and hearth is the place to go. 'mama says eat your veggies' and 'ring of fire' are awesome pies and the eggplant chips are delicious. they have a full servicebarand an alfresco setting to add to the food. it is one place we take all our friends to and recommend over and over again...

hearth is a simple yet delicious pizzaria  in the whole foods shopping center in sandy springs. my readers know i am not a pizza lover or even someone that eats is more than 3-4x per year.  hearth is changing my mind about that.  the menu does feature some tasty sandwiches and salads but the pizza of course is the star attraction, with good reason.  let me not fail to mention a substantialbarand beer menu. the crust is unique to a non conniseur like myself.  glossey, chewey bubbly perfection. i ordered the white clam that is additionally adorned with fennel sausage and mushrooms. it's drizzled with a garlicky olive oil and sprinkles of fresh mince of parsley. light and incredibly balanced and flavorful. i want it again and again. this may be pizza from heaven to a  pizza disliker that is yours truly. the chicken club is hearty and flavorful yet still simple in its satisfaction abilities. chicken is moist and tender. proscuitto is the bacon and it works like an italian charm. arugul

great ingredients. i went to grab a bite for dinner on sunday night as i'm in town for business. the wait was well over an hour for a table, so i went to the end of thebarand ordered a 12" fun guy pizza (a bunch of different types of mushrooms and red onions). the service was excellent. the brick oven pizza came quickly even though they were slammed, and the crust, ingredients, and pizza were great. i would definitely recommend this place to eat. it looked like they had a decentbaras well. the pizza was a tad pricey ($18) but far, far superior to the chain pizza that people somehow eat.

jennifer and i had lunch at hearth pizza. it's in the whole foods shopping center on always-crowded roswell road. the atmosphere is upscale casual. the decor is rich, dark woods. thebaris central to the space and it has its share of tv screens but they aren't too obtrusive. the walls sport photos of some of the most famous new york pizza venues. we started with salads and some meatballs. the meatballs were rich and moist and the tomato sauce was of the fresh variety, populated by small chunks of tomato. we then followed with a pizza. beware, their pizzas are fairly small. their larger size was just enough for both of us. the pizza was ok but not, in my humble view, entirely worthy of the surroundings. the crust didn't have the chewy/crusty combination that is the essence of new york pizza. we also found the service to be a little spotty; we generally had to ask for help rather than being checked on. overall, come here for the atmosphere, not the food.

didn't get to eat!!. we went there tonight hoping for a good experience. unfortunately, we left before we even got our food. after waiting for 15-20 minutes for a seat, we were seated at the end of a table at the rear of the restaurant. we realized very quickly that the seats were freezing. when we asked our waiter about this, he said that it was because they kept a door open nearby, and the cold air blows in (it's january!). when we said that we didn't want to sit there and freeze, he said he would take care of it. so we got up and headed to thebarto wait for a table to open up. after seeing several people get seated, we went to the hostess and asked about seating us. we were told that we were not even on the list, and if we wanted to get back on the list we would be put at the end of the list, because we were given a seat already (regardless of whether one could tolerate the open door nearby). apparently, the lesson here is that you get punished for getting stuck in a horrible seat and requesting to move. the attitude of the host and hostess was clearly one of "we don't care if you're in a bad seat and don't ask us to move." we quickly left the restaurant, concluding that other restaurants would welcome our dollars.

ps: on a positive note, we called the manager/owner after we returned home. he was apologetic and told us that the treatment we received was not their policy, and that he hoped we would come back on the house.

one of our "go to" places. i have two children - a five year old and a two year old. we regularly go to hearth for pizza, the fabulous meatballs with ricotta cheese/bread for dipping and the salads. we don't deviate all that much from those items - although we did try the calamari once - and it was very good.

the staff is always super efficient and friendly - even bringing lemonade for my children before i order them - watered down as i would request otherwise. they are friendly and very accommodating in terms of my children so, at least early in the evening, this is definitely a family-friendly restaurant (and there are always lots of families there when we're there.)

there is a deal on pizza for dinner before 6, i believe - half price and i think this is a nice touch. as a native-ny'er, i definitely have a pre-disposition about pizza. the pizza at hearth is wood-burning and hand "shaped". the personal pizzas are somewhat rectangular in shape and not cut like a standard pie (in other words, they're cut in half and then in three or four - generally resulting in 6 or 8 square pieces). this is not my preference but again, the pizza is open "hearth"/wood burning in style and taste. it is very good, nevertheless.

the aesthtic is wonderful at hearth (and i can't wait until we can use the outdoor area - although it overlooks the parking lot, they've done a great job with the surrounding fence, the tables, the heat posts, etc.). they've used dark wood (for the tables and booths) but the feel is not dark nor cavernous. thebaris impressive.

i wish they had some pasta offerings, but i understand this is not the "model" for the restaurant (which is rumored to be the flagship - with more to come??

definitely recommend.
