hearth pizza tavern

this is my favorite pizza place in atlanta, i am a huge fan of wood-fired pizzas and hearth is the place to go. 'mama says eat your veggies' and 'ring of fire' are awesome pies and the eggplant chips are delicious. they have a fullservicebar and an alfresco setting to add to the food. it is one place we take all our friends to and recommend over and over again...

great ingredients. i went to grab a bite for dinner on sunday night as i'm in town for business. the wait was well over an hour for a table, so i went to the end of the bar and ordered a 12" fun guy pizza (a bunch of different types of mushrooms and red onions). theservicewas excellent. the brick oven pizza came quickly even though they were slammed, and the crust, ingredients, and pizza were great. i would definitely recommend this place to eat. it looked like they had a decent bar as well. the pizza was a tad pricey ($18) but far, far superior to the chain pizza that people somehow eat.

good food, poor service. the food is good, but theservicewas terrible. i don't think i'll be back... we went for a birthday celebration. the check was brought to us without asking if we wanted dessert, when we asked for a dessert menu our waitress appear annoyed (probably since she already printed the check on the assumption that we didn't want dessert) and barked that there were donuts and brownie. then she continued to pick up our dishes while in a "huff"- lots of noise, more than if you were to calmly pick up a dish. we were completely shocked at our treatment from our waitress and it put a damper on the birthday celebration, especially since the birthday girl was excited about coming to hearth. i have never hadservicelike this before in my life!

disappointed. theservicewas poor, waiter refused to make simple accommodations, had to ask for water multiple times. management seems to be lacking as food varied, brussel sproust were good but the rest of table fare was average. rest room was not the cleanest.

gone downhill. hearth sure has gone downhill. mediocre food, poorserviceand dingy atmosphere add up to a disappointing experience.

now that's a pizza!. i stopped in for lunch to see what this place was all about. somehow it had managed to stay under my radar, even though it's just a couple exits down from my office. i'm definitely glad i finally happened upon hearth.
the decor is really nice; exposed brick walls, lots of dark wood, very nice bar, not-to-dim lighting. theservicewas very friendly and helpful. he told us what the most popular items on the menu were, but then told us his personal favorites as well, which i like.
i decided to go with one of the daily special pizzas and chose the fall river classic. it's topped with chili oil, hearth's signature cheese blend, sauteed kale, gulf shrimp, clams, homemade portuguese chorizo, red onion and cilantro. this is one tasty pie! i personally find that "seafood" pizzas tend to be disappointing, but this one was superb! it may very well be one of the best pizzas i've ever had. the thin crust was nice and crispy, but not burnt. the chili oil added a slight touch of heat, while the clams and shrimp were very fresh tasting. the chorizo was very tasty and added its own bit of heat as well. every topping was discernible on the palate and wasn't lost among the others.
if the other pizzas are made with this same amount of quality and attention to detail as this one, then i can easily see this place becoming one of my favorites. as for now, based off of one (amazingly good) pizza, i definitely recommend hearth.

jennifer and i had lunch at hearth pizza. it's in the whole foods shopping center on always-crowded roswell road. the atmosphere is upscale casual. the decor is rich, dark woods. the bar is central to the space and it has its share of tv screens but they aren't too obtrusive. the walls sport photos of some of the most famous new york pizza venues. we started with salads and some meatballs. the meatballs were rich and moist and the tomato sauce was of the fresh variety, populated by small chunks of tomato. we then followed with a pizza. beware, their pizzas are fairly small. their larger size was just enough for both of us. the pizza was ok but not, in my humble view, entirely worthy of the surroundings. the crust didn't have the chewy/crusty combination that is the essence of new york pizza. we also found theserviceto be a little spotty; we generally had to ask for help rather than being checked on. overall, come here for the atmosphere, not the food.

good appetizers, good toppings for pizzas which have more of an american fluffy and crispy crust. kids loved the wings and mussels.servicewas excellent, amazed they had bell's oberon beer-quite a find. nice atmosphere, creative food, excellent service. recommend without reservations.

awesome pizza!. this place is awesome. their pizza is excellent and theservicewas great. really tasty appetizers - the eggplant chips are to die for. be sure to try some of the new haven style (a la pepe's pizza) specialties. not to be missed!

best pizza in town, and then some. i recently went to hearth pizza tavern for the first time, and i had a completely delightful experience. theservicewas friendly and attentive, the mozzarella & tomato salad was the best i've ever had, and the queen's right pizza was absolutely scrumptious. very fresh ingredients all around.

i also thought the decor of the restaurant was very tasteful and conducive to enjoying a good meal.

great food!. this is the best pizza i've had in atlanta in a long time! the only other dish i've tried (can't get away from their pizza) is the 4 cheese ravioli and is was wonderful! everyone i've taken there loves their food. theserviceis great and it doesn't take very long to get your food! can't wait to go back!
