go for the sandwiches, skip the soup. hammontree's offers so many types of grilled cheese sandwiches, it'll make your head spin. various cheese and bread options, delicious with or without meat, and several combinations you'll wish you had thought of before now. i've tried 3 sandwiches so far, and all were wonderful. if you're on a diet, grilled cheese is probably not your best bet, but this is comfort food at its best. that being said, i do not recommend the crawfish soup. it literally tasted like a can of rotel and a few pieces of crawfish had been added to a bowl of cream. i'm sure some cajun spices were in there somewhere, but the thin broth and large chunks of stewed tomatoes reminded me of runny cheese dip and made the soup inedible. don't let this detour you from visiting hammontree's. just skip the soup and stick to their wonderful sandwiches!
i almost forgot to mention their new byob (bring your own bread) gluten-free option. if you bring gluten-free bread to the restaurant, they will use it to make the sandwich of your choice. is it inconvenient to expect customers to carry their own ingredients to dinner? yes, but it's a step in the right direction. if the community proves there's a demand for gluten-free options, maybe they'll begin carrying the bread as well.
