i've lived in va beach my whole life and while i have been to tautog's (their sister restaurant and next door neighbor) this was my firsttimeat doc taylor's. well, my screwdriver was nice but my egg white omelet was not so nice. the first couple bites were done but as i cut into the center is was raw. i'm not talking undercooked either. i'm talking raw runny egg whites. stop rushing and watch your quality control. this was on a wednesday morning it was not rush time. i may try them again(accidents happen), but for now i'm just left with a bad taste in my mouth for doc's.

i had the eggs benedict ala graz and the doctor's world famous (bloody mary) for breakfast. both were delicious. doc taylor's was once a pink hotel and a practice ran by doctor taylor himself. today it is a popular breakfast and lunch establishment that serves affordable but amazing food and neighbors its sister restaurant tautog's. i enjoyed mytimehere and love that it is a short walk to the beach.

favorite breakfast spot!. the downside of doc taylor's is that unless you get there super early (especially on a weekend, which is the onlytimei can go), it's usually a wait. thankfully, they have pretty good outdoor seating and great bloody marys to pass thetimewhile you wait for a table.

if you like "greasy spoon" type breakfast spots, as i do, this place is great. my husband first found out about it last year and raved how good it was (since our formerly favorite greasy spoon breakfast spot seems to have closed down...). it did not disappoint! great diner style breakfasts, but everything is always made beautifully and tastes great. i usually stick to something egg related, though i'm itching to try on of their pancakes. while none of the breakfast menu items are particularly "weight conscious", they do have a few lighter options for those that are looking for it. but honestly, when i go here i pile up on the toast, bacon (which i normally don't eat) and hash browns!

the atmosphere on a typical weekend morning is usually loud and crowded: packed with locals and hung-over tourists alike. parking it out back and during the height of the season they give you a tag for parking. it's usually packed too, so be aware it can be a bit exciting to navigate if you have a larger vehicle.

the best!. doc taylor's is the best breakfast in town, period. their menu is so well put together, they have about 8-10 signature items, 6 or so different omelettes, and a dozen or so standard egg breakfasts. they have by far the best banana pancakes i have ever had. eachtimei get them, they just keep getting better. everything on the menu is fresh and delicious. the staff is incredible. the kitchen is open and it is great to watch the cooks work. best in the business and super nice. doc taylor's has set the bar for me as my favorite breakfast i have ever had. thank you doc taylor's!

hurry up and wait. i have only "dined in" once here. the lasttimei went by to check on the wait, it was at 4 hours. i ended up getting my food to go, which came out in record time. why would anyone wait that long for some breakfast? i admit that the food is good, but the service i am unsure about. i will continue to get my food to go, which means no tip for the servers from me, until the waittimecomes back down to something a little more reasonable.

great food & atmosphere, awful wait. i used to go to doc's all the time. i love the food, it always comes out fast and exactly how i like it. the same people have worked there for years which indicates to me that they take care of their employees and i like that. however, i haven't been in a year because the wait has went from 20-30 minutes to over an hour on the weekends (which is the onlytimewe are able to go). we have tried 7-10 times at different times and different times of year. but sorry, not worth getting out of bed at 7am when i don't have to go to work to eat at doc's! everytimewe walk away because, even though i absolutely love this place, i cannot justify waiting that long for anything. maybe i'm just impatient and have been spoiled from the days that you could get in in under 30 minutes. usually it would be a higher wait during the season but we could always get in on a sunday in the winter almost immediately. not anymore. if you don't mind waiting & you're not hungry yet & you're with a crowd, it's kinda fun. but if you're impatient like me, it's not worth it.

a fantastic breakfast/lunch place (finally). it's so hard to find a decent breakfast or lunch in virginia beach. nothing wrong with waffle house or ihop, but there are only so many rooty tooty fresh n' fruities i can consume in a given month.

enter: doc taylor's.

located a stone's throw away from the beach in an old beach home, the setting of the restaurant suits its style very well: the atmosphere is very homey and casual, allowing the diner to relax amongst the visible controlled chaos going on in the open kitchen. the closed patio also adds a nice touch, and in the winter, seats near the fireplace give it more of a touch of home.

service has always been pleasant and timely, no matter how long the wait is. most of the selections are what you'd expect from a breakfast place - pancakes, eggs with choice of meat, etc, are found. the difference here is that they actually do a good job by being thorough and can get the food out quickly, which is something other local breakfast places should take note on. other choices like "the stroke" add a nice element of humor and are just as delicious. all selections are very affordable, which is a hard find on the oceanfront.

breakfast and lunch done right with consistently excellent service - the reasons i continue to go everytimei'm in virginia beach.
