the good (food), the bad (ambiance) & the ugly (dessert). i am a playful eater! i like to get to know my server and have fun in my dining experience. that being said, i believe it is safe to say that our server brad just did not know what to do with me...
enough about that...
i started off with the crow cocktail which was amazing! i had to make myself drink it slow because it's main ingredient is rye whiskey and this was the first stop of the night.
for appetizers, we had the baked rockefeller & jumbo shrimp cocktail which was also very good. the flavors of the baked rockefeller were well infused and complemented each other well.
for my main entree, i ordered the stuffed baked potato with beef brisket. this is where things start to go downhill. the potato had a reheated taste and was not evenly cooked prior to stuffing it with all of the yummy goodness. it was hard to eat the potato based on the old taste and so i just focused on the toppings which were good.
i ordered the potato because i had to have room for the bread pudding which i had been salivating over since we sat down and i went to peruse the dessert offerings.
the choice of bread was good; however, whoever prepared this dish did not compress the bread in the baking dish which is a recipe for disaster when making bread pudding (too much air). as a result, the texture of the bread was mushy and gummy - yuck. the mixture that is poured over the bread before cooking was "awesome sauce", i loved it, as was the bourbon vanilla sauce that was served on top which was perfect. sadly, i would not buy again.
just like me, my two friends did not finish their entrees and almost half went into the garbage. and the birthday girl who got the free apple cobbler was very disappointed.
lastly, we were sat in the couples section which is very private and you can't people watch at all! three friends celebrating a birthday want to see and be seen!
the next time i go to doc crow's, i will be sticking with drinks and appetizers. those, that got right! i will also request seating in the very front or the very back!
