many pros and one small con. i think it's time for at least one change. we had reservations at 5:00 and apparently 30 other people also did. we arrived about 10 minutes early and they were nice enough to have all 30 of us huddle around the front desk until exactly 5:00. when 5:00 rolled around it was a confused mess of what to do. seems like the pushy ones got in first and reservations meant very little. didn't want to say all that but hey, it's a review. then we were seated... the service was awesome! suggestions about the food, beer, liquor, and deserts were all spot on. our waitress was very attentive and a pro at her job. the food, beer, bourbon, and deserts were fantanstic. i will definitely bebackand would suggest this place to all. be patient if your experience starts off a bit like ours did and you will be rewarded in the end.

fantastic southern food in an adorable restaurant in the heart of downtown louisville. a friend and i traveled from michigan on a whim and stumbled into this place and were absolutely delighted! we have made cracks about returning to louisville just for the food after this experience. highly recommend, you will not be disappointed. we had the fried tilapia platter wit hush puppies, fired okra, and braised greens. everything was so delicious, we wentbackfor dessert later.

came in with a buddy, both of us from out of town. great atmosphere and people watching from window booths. started with the peel and eat shrimp which were great. nice size and great seasonings! moved on the the smokehouse sampler with ribs, brisket, and pork. the babybackribs were phenomenal. perfectly fall off the bone, and the dry rub was addictive. the brisket and pulled pork were also good but the ribs take the cake. for sides i had the baked beans, cheddar grits, and cornbread. the cornbread was perfect and i’ve never had better cheddar grits, super creamy, tender and well seasoned. i would def return for the ribs, grits, and cornbread.

first time in louisville. this place is amazing, for a starter we got the beer cheese and chips, it was delicious. for the main meal got the smoker sampler, it was unreal. by far best ribs i have ever had. i live in michigan and would drivebackjust to eat here again. atmosphere was good, the space was a lot larger than i had anticipated. all in all great experience would highly recommend to anyone who is in the area.

so i'm not the biggest expert on southern food and bbq so can't even confirm if this qualifies but i do know that this place was amazing.  there were excellent bbq choices served in the most unpretentious way.  the way that this place is packed constantly is a testament to how good the food is.  add to that their amazing selection of bourbons and other southern staples.

i was thoroughy impressed with this place and will bebackif i'm ever in louisville again.

dinner review. my family and i stopped into doc crows before the last mens u of l basketball homegame, tuesday february 18th! the places was packed wsith u of l fans with was awesome. it was a crazy loud enviorment, but that was expected when the venue is wall to wall. the food was really good, tooka while to get it, but that;s understandable. we left out thebackdoor and pretty much stepped straight into the yum! center, which was awesome!

we had a great time and everything went smoothly, highlky recommended. the only knock is it's a good four or five block walk to 4th street live where the party scene is! afte a couple drinks in thats okay!

quick & tasty dinner. i read the reviews and i was not sure about going but i wanted to try some new items and not rely soley on the negative reviews. so my friend and i went on a tues night with a friend. granted it was the coldest night seen in louisville so that may have been a reason why the restaurant was not crowded, but it was not empty either. it had a nice size crowd, but really no need for the reservation i put in for 615. we arrive about 5 mins late and were seated immediately. the waiter was very attentive and responded with all requests in a timely manner. i ordered a drink and appetizers as soon as we sat down at 6:34. i don't usually drink bourbon drinks so i wasn't thrilled about the drink but i still drink it. it was my taste buds and not the actual drink . appetizers came out promptly and we placed our food order and that too came out before we finished our appetizers which were the fried green tomatoes and pulled pork tacos, which filled us up! i had the shrimp and grits and my friend had the catfish poboy, and we loved them both! the gravy used in the shrimp and grits was very flavorful and the shrimp were of large size and plentiful. the fish was tender and crunch, and seasoned perfectly. everything was hot, tasty, and big portion sizes. we ended up taking the food home for leftovers. we were out of the restaurant by 718 to catch our 730 play down the street. all in all it was a very good experience and i will bebackto try more dishes.

everything great... other than the food. ambience: 9out of10
service: bar staff were knowledgable, friendly and v good 9 out of 10
drinks menu: outstanding list of beers and bourbons, 9 out of 10
food: by comparison a terrible, terrible letdown: i had the sampler and sent it back: overcooked, dry, tasteless, card-board-y.

to be fair to the management, they comp'd the dish i sentbackand were very reasonable... nevertheless, this is the worst bbq food i've tasted across several us states. poor factory, bbq with no care or passion whatsoever.

if the kitchen cold match the rest of the offering, this place would be very good.

don't listen to the bad reviews.... i'm glad i didn't.
i had time to go to one restaurant while i was in louisville and i am very pleased that doc's was my choice.
the service was fantastic, the atmosphere was right on, and the bourbon and beer selection was great.
and i don't know if they meant to do it but every person who works there is good looking. even my boyfriend had a little bro-crush on our server who was super suave and stoic and so eager to talk about the "going-ons" in the louisville music scene. he knew his beers and brought me a beautiful ipa that i am craving pretty hardcore right now.

thanks, guys.
i'll bebackon my next louisville visit, for sure.

a pricey let down.. a group of friends and i decided to eat here. the servers were border line rude and uppity. i got the poboy with aprx. 6 fried oysters on it. i'm from louisiana and they really need to do a little research on poboys because this was a poor attempt.

better restaurants to venture too, wont bebackhere.

just okay. my wife and i grabbed dinner after a louisville basketball game last night. i had the shrimp for the appetizer. this was the best part of the meal besides the bourbon i ordered. my main course was the babybackribs which were very dry. the spice was right, but i had to dip each piece in sauce. the ribs were advertised as so good no sauce would be necessary. the couple next to me at the bar had the same comment. i'd gobackand give it another shot because i felt like there was potential. i hope next time is better.

i went there with three other people tonight. overall reviews were mixed. i got the redfish which when i cut into it i thought was overcooked chicken as it was so tough. until i cut it in half and then it was half raw on the inside. i told the waitress that it was not good at all and she offered to bring me another one. i just told her i would eat around my main entrée. she camebacka little later and told me the manager was concerned and wanted to make sure i was okay. i told her it was fine. at the end of the meal, i told her to show that piece of fish to her manager so he could see for himself. seems to me that if the manager was really concerned he would've been out asking himself. a great lesson for him to be learned in customer service. i did not ask and they did not take the entrée off my bill. no, i won't be going back. too many other great places in louisville to eat where the management actually cares about what their customers think.

just left doc crows and i am so disappointed.. walked in on slick floors, dangerous to all but especially when your carrying a baby in her carseat. we had prompt service and got our brisket tacos quickly. the tacos were tue highlight of the meal. shortly after we were served dinner 1/2 rack of ribs with greens and mac-n-cheese and shrimp po boy with grits. the shrimp had not been deviened, not at all. every shrimp had a big black line of nastiness right down the back. the ribs were ok but definitely on the dry side. all the sides were bland and in need of some serious seasoning. sentbackthe po boy and ordered a stuffed baked potato with brisket assuming that if the tacos were good... i was wrong the potato was just ok and the 4 chunks of meats were almost entirely fat. my husband ordered the wilber sundae. it liked it better than me but we both agreed the bourbon cherries were gross, there were too many pork rinds, and the bacon was chewy. really disappointed... i had looked forward to dinner at doc crows all day... i won't be making a return visit.

service was great and the bar is extensive. very wide selection.the babybackribs were the worst i have ever paid for. the rest of the food was ok.
