came in with a buddy, both of us from out of town. great atmosphere and people watching from window booths. started with the peel and eatshrimpwhich were great. nice size and great seasonings! moved on the the smokehouse sampler with ribs, brisket, and pork. the baby back ribs were phenomenal. perfectly fall off the bone, and the dry rub was addictive. the brisket and pulled pork were also good but the ribs take the cake. for sides i had the baked beans, cheddar grits, and cornbread. the cornbread was perfect and i’ve never had better cheddar grits, super creamy, tender and well seasoned. i would def return for the ribs, grits, and cornbread.

the cheddar grits andshrimplacked flavor and theshrimpwere over cooked to the point that they were rubbery and inedible. the oyster andshrimppo boy was ok but the fries were soggy. service was good but not excellent. i will return just to try the loaded chips... they looked delicious.

good fare, cold drinks and solid service. it can get very crowded if there's anything going on downtown--so get a reservation. love the oysters, shrimpand grits, and barbecue selections.

the good (food), the bad (ambiance) & the ugly (dessert). i am a playful eater! i like to get to know my server and have fun in my dining experience. that being said, i believe it is safe to say that our server brad just did not know what to do with me...
enough about that...
i started off with the crow cocktail which was amazing! i had to make myself drink it slow because it's main ingredient is rye whiskey and this was the first stop of the night.
for appetizers, we had the baked rockefeller & jumboshrimpcocktail which was also very good. the flavors of the baked rockefeller were well infused and complemented each other well.
for my main entree, i ordered the stuffed baked potato with beef brisket. this is where things start to go downhill. the potato had a reheated taste and was not evenly cooked prior to stuffing it with all of the yummy goodness. it was hard to eat the potato based on the old taste and so i just focused on the toppings which were good.
i ordered the potato because i had to have room for the bread pudding which i had been salivating over since we sat down and i went to peruse the dessert offerings.
the choice of bread was good; however, whoever prepared this dish did not compress the bread in the baking dish which is a recipe for disaster when making bread pudding (too much air). as a result, the texture of the bread was mushy and gummy - yuck. the mixture that is poured over the bread before cooking was "awesome sauce", i loved it, as was the bourbon vanilla sauce that was served on top which was perfect. sadly, i would not buy again.
just like me, my two friends did not finish their entrees and almost half went into the garbage. and the birthday girl who got the free apple cobbler was very disappointed.
lastly, we were sat in the couples section which is very private and you can't people watch at all! three friends celebrating a birthday want to see and be seen!
the next time i go to doc crow's, i will be sticking with drinks and appetizers. those, that got right! i will also request seating in the very front or the very back!

quick & tasty dinner. i read the reviews and i was not sure about going but i wanted to try some new items and not rely soley on the negative reviews. so my friend and i went on a tues night with a friend. granted it was the coldest night seen in louisville so that may have been a reason why the restaurant was not crowded, but it was not empty either. it had a nice size crowd, but really no need for the reservation i put in for 615. we arrive about 5 mins late and were seated immediately. the waiter was very attentive and responded with all requests in a timely manner. i ordered a drink and appetizers as soon as we sat down at 6:34. i don't usually drink bourbon drinks so i wasn't thrilled about the drink but i still drink it. it was my taste buds and not the actual drink . appetizers came out promptly and we placed our food order and that too came out before we finished our appetizers which were the fried green tomatoes and pulled pork tacos, which filled us up! i had theshrimpand grits and my friend had the catfish poboy, and we loved them both! the gravy used in theshrimpand grits was very flavorful and theshrimpwere of large size and plentiful. the fish was tender and crunch, and seasoned perfectly. everything was hot, tasty, and big portion sizes. we ended up taking the food home for leftovers. we were out of the restaurant by 718 to catch our 730 play down the street. all in all it was a very good experience and i will be back to try more dishes.

just okay. my wife and i grabbed dinner after a louisville basketball game last night. i had theshrimpfor the appetizer. this was the best part of the meal besides the bourbon i ordered. my main course was the baby back ribs which were very dry. the spice was right, but i had to dip each piece in sauce. the ribs were advertised as so good no sauce would be necessary. the couple next to me at the bar had the same comment. i'd go back and give it another shot because i felt like there was potential. i hope next time is better.

just left doc crows and i am so disappointed.. walked in on slick floors, dangerous to all but especially when your carrying a baby in her carseat. we had prompt service and got our brisket tacos quickly. the tacos were tue highlight of the meal. shortly after we were served dinner 1/2 rack of ribs with greens and mac-n-cheese andshrimppo boy with grits. theshrimphad not been deviened, not at all. everyshrimphad a big black line of nastiness right down the back. the ribs were ok but definitely on the dry side. all the sides were bland and in need of some serious seasoning. sent back the po boy and ordered a stuffed baked potato with brisket assuming that if the tacos were good... i was wrong the potato was just ok and the 4 chunks of meats were almost entirely fat. my husband ordered the wilber sundae. it liked it better than me but we both agreed the bourbon cherries were gross, there were too many pork rinds, and the bacon was chewy. really disappointed... i had looked forward to dinner at doc crows all day... i won't be making a return visit.

i went to doc crow's for the first time last night after being recommended by my boss. it was a great decision! the atmosphere was great the appetizers were amazing (definitely get the beef brisket tacos) and dinner was not a disappointment. my mother in law got theshrimpand cheese grits and loved it! i got theshrimpand oyster po'boy and initially it was a bit dry, but i asked for additional sauce, which i got at no charge, and then it was perfect! and the dirty rice was delicious as well! overall it was just a good time, good portions, good food, and a great server!! i'm hoping to take my husband once he returns from his deployment! keep up the awesome food and service!

review. this was my first experience at doc crow's. the fried green tomatoes were great along with theshrimpand cheesy grits entree. the pork chops and mashed potatoes weren't bad. i was with a large party and i would say the service was good.

an incident did occur. my husband and i ordered magarita"s and there was something in his drink(i won't mention and was shocking). i looked in my glass and there was the same object in my glass. we told our waiter and i eventually asked for the manager, because he never came out to the table(usually if a problem occurs they will). i asked to see the mananger and he knew nothing about the incident. he thought we just didn't like the drinks. he was nice and everthing was fine, but i think we should not have been charged for the 2 drinks although we received 2 new drinks. just my thoughts.

2nd time disappointment. this was my 2nd time at doc crow's. on the first visit, i was pleased, except for the service. on the 2nd visit, we started out with a dozen of oysters. the oysters are a little pricey ($2 each), but were excellent. i was very pleased with the oysters, just like the first time. this time i ordered crab cakes for a second appetizer. they were o.k. the crab cakes were not bad, but not outstanding. they were just o.k. my entre was theshrimpand oyster poboy. the bread is excellent. they do use the correct type of french bread. but theshrimpwere not very tasty. i know a goodshrimpwhen i see one, and theseshrimpfailed to impress. the fried oysters were o.k., but not outstanding. for a captain d's, theshrimpand oysters would have been just fine. but this is not a captain ds. my check for the dozen oysters, poboy, 3 glasses of wine, and a bowl of gumbo was $80 (20% tip included). oh, the seafoood gumbo lacked seafood. i could only see one piece of crab meat, and that was it....no shrimp.

it will be a while until i go back, buti will return. my rib dish on the first trip was excellent. and the hot wings were also great on the first trip. tonight, the table next to me had a filet, and it looked great.
