absolutely love the tasty tomyumsoup noodles.. it comes in varying levels of fireplace.. be careful!! try a medium level of heat, as the higher levels are rather spicy. they also have a selection of other thai street foods worth trying.

the amount of thai speaking customers at this restaurant bodes well for it authenticity. in terms of spiciness of the food, i can assure you they have a very authentic level of spiciness. i was keen on a boat noodle, but couldn't find it on their extensive menu, so had the tomyumnoodles which feature extensively on their menu (funnily enough, most of the other thai customers ordered the non-noodle dishes). i ordered the do dee lava noodles and being a level 3 spicy level, i thought this would have been a pretty safe bet since i can eat moderate levels of chilli. boy o boy was i wrong. either they prepared it wrong, or level 3 for a thai local is equivalent to a level 8 or 9 out of 10 for me. it was so spicy, i couldn't eat the dish much and just ended up picking out various bits of meat from the sad looking bowl. if i was to return, i think i would pick a non spicy, non noodle dish! chilli masochists rejoice!

dodee paidang seems to be most infamously known for its tomyumsoups, with noodles, that come in ratings from 0 (something like 'infantile') to 5 (volcano). the first time we went here, we had a 3. it was so spicy, i couldn't feel my mouth nor taste anything else for 15 minutes. i notched it down to a two on the last visit, and it was still too spicy. wimp. worst service and food experienced in a restaurant. i shouldn't have paid. we ordered tomyumnoodle and what we got i would not even feed to a animal. one word to describe is disgusting.
the beef balls tasted like they should have been thrown away months ago not to mention the extremely poor tasting soup.
other tables seemed to be handing over vouchers and getting discounts for their meals and when we asked the waitress how people get these they were very rude saying they are only for thai people and we are not entitled to them.
the soup was only spicy as some dry chilli powder was mixed in before serving to us and this was not enough to hide the worst tomyumflavour i have ever experienced. i will not be returning to this place ever !!

tomyumnoodles with a twist. do dee specialises in tomyumsoup with a dizzying number of permutations: spicy/paleo/'secret'/wonton/seafood - you get the drift. regardless of the selection, you'll enjoy a punchy soup that's a cut above the normal tomyumflavours. basic ingredients for every bowl include soft bone pork, mince pork and meatballs. you can select your noodles but personally, nothing beats the fresh thin rice noodles. these slippery slim strands are a pleasure to slurp up.
a few things to note: having just the half-size noodles for a meal is unlikely to fill you up; use it as an excuse to eat your way through the rest of the menu. the jumbo is probably enough to feed 2 starving people and 3 not-so-hungry ones. a 'level 3' spice factor at do dee is akin to a 'level 6' factor at any other thai restaurant. you have been warned.
if you decide to venture beyond the noodle menu, you will not be disappointed as there are some really interesting dishes. we've tried the tamarind pork ribs which were tasty though not as tender as hurricanes and the chicken wings were a pretty good starter. however, the fresh duck rice paper rolls received mixed feedback. the majority of the group didn't like the super sweet (hoisin?) sauce that was liberally drizzled all over the rolls.
loving this place and will definitely be back to try more items from the menu. if i can give up the addictive noodles.

a fantastic well priced thai eatery in chinatown. upon entering the restaraunt we were pleasantly surprised to see mainly thais dining here which was very reassuring. we were warmly greeted by our waitress and provided with the various menus which were abundant with thai classics but most impressive was their various soups on offer. the volcano tomyum( level 5) certainly lived up to its title with an abundance of chilli powder which i would not recommend for the faint hearted. make sure you order it with the fresh rice noodle. the pork , basil and chilli stir fry was pretty stock standard accompanied with rice however the som tom was a standout , particularly the salted crab which really lifted the overall taste of the dish. the papaya was crunchy and fresh and the nuts , tomatoes and thai dressing of lime and fish sauce gave it an extra zing. would love to return and try the plethora of the other soups and other dishes on offer . for the price point, it was great value for money and authentic.

come to this place for those of you who love chilli and want to experience the real spicy tomyumnoodle soup. it doesn't taste like the typical tomyumthat u ever tasted but it still so heartwarming-ly good and delish!
