like to support local business so i stopped in for a burger and fries. it is better than the chain drive-in across the street.

go local. kind of likesonicbecause it used to be one. it still stands tall and proud in the saddle while thesonicmoves around at the behest of the baptists.

food and drinks are what you'd expect and nothing more. quick and a good value. but locally owned and not a chain... and some believe that's important. i do.

if you always wishedsonichad a few other items or did some things different this place is for you. if not go anyway because it will be better than thesonicacross the street.

we were going through norman on the way to the chickasaw cultural center, and stopped here for a quick lunch. raegan got the fish sandwich and a corn dog. she figured the sandwich would be small, but it wasn’t, and was hard pressed to finish the corn dog. she liked the fishburger, and said the corn dog was excellent. ian, erin, and i got burgers. we really liked them. they were not the very best cheeseburgers we’ve had, but they were far from the worst (and they were better than any braum’s orsonicburger i’ve had in the past couple years). my burger could have had a better crust to improve texture, but it had decent flavor. i also got a chili cheese dog, which i really enjoyed. the beef dog was tasty, and the chili was the right amount and a good compliment to the dog. we got a couple tots, and they were nice and crispy. the tea and the coke was really good. service was fast and friendly. our check was $35.50.

nothing special. i have driven past classic 50's many times but had never tried it. so, after the ou-texas basketball game, my wife and i stopped in for a couple of late night burgers. she had the number 2 cheeseburger with mustard and i had the bacon cheeseburger with mayo. we were not impressed. the burgers were okay, but the meat was very thin and they were not a good value. i am not a big fan of the oklahoma chain across the street, but i would choosesonicover the classic 50's.

wonderful taste of the good old days. i have been eating at classic's for years, and i genuinely love this place. the food is always great, even though the service could sometimes be better. the menu is much more extensive than sonic's, and i am so happy that despitesonicbuilding next door and then across the street classic's has stayed strong. i love that i can get fried okra with my burger here. the choices for drinks are boundless and you can add candy to your choice. they serve up my very favorite hot fudge sundae here. they basically line a styrofoamcup with hot fudge--so that you have about an inch worth of fudge on the bottom--then they add the ice cream, more hot fudge, whipped cream and of course a cherry on top. there is no lack of chocolate deliciousness here!

romantic spot. when i was in high school, my wife (then girlfriend) and i used to come here for lunch to split the cajun fries because we didn't have much money. this was before anyone had curly fries that i knew of. still delicious and always fresh...unlike arbys. now i take my daughter here for late night snacks.

i don't really care much for the burgers or the slushes, but everything else i've had is perfect. i think that part of their secret is that they use peanut oil for frying, and everything is made to order...hot enough to burn you if you're not careful! my favorite items on the menu are the fried chicken sandwich and the fried pickles. i love the potato boats as well, but they are way overpriced.

what i love most of all is that it is a norman institution. and whensonicstarted to move in right next store, i was outraged. they moved to the corner instead, but you know who looks the busiest to me? norman's own classic 50s.

classic fare, hometown taste!. i love classic 50s. when i moved here it was the first place a friend took me to! their cajun burger is great, and they have good drink options. good pricing too! i just wish their credit card machine was outside likesonichas, but that's okay--i'll keep coming back for more sweet 'tater fries!

delicious!. now thatsonicstopped serving fried pickles, classic 50's is the only place around that still does. they are amazing! i also like their party boat potatoes. they are super good too. the wait isn't long like others have said. they are always really nice as well. never had any problems, as of yet. so 2 thumbs up!

it can't even be compared tosoniclike some of these reviews are attempting. classic 50's is delicious and fun. you have to try the peanut butter shake, the sprittle, curly fries, and any one of the cheeseburgers. these other reviews are wrong when they claim it's similar tosonicand the service is slow. i couldn't disagree more.

a norman institution. if you've attended the university of oklahoma, its very likely you've come to classic 50's more than just a few times. classic style drive-in with equally classic burger offerings.sonic(corporate burger) has been trying to kill off this independent drive-in for years. they moved a brand newsonicright next door to them, nobody went, so they shut it down and moved thesonicdown the street. not sure if they're doing any better but who cares, i only go to classic 50's anyway.

great!. classic 50's has been around for a while, and is a local institution. the food is better than sonic's, plus it has the whole "local" thing going for it (i guess in oklahomasonicis local, but you know what i mean). the slushes are great, and they have quite a few flavors to choose from. the friend pickles are awesome. the best part, though, is that they make their own root beer and it's some of the best! price wise, it's about the same as other drive-ins. if you're in norman, it is worth checking out.

solid choice, but not if you're in a hurry. the food here is nothing to write home about. i'd certainly say it's like eating atsonicwith a different view. they do have a few drink selections that separate their offerings from that of sonic, making the trip worthwhile. however, the one consistent problem with eating here is the waiting. it's not uncommon to have to wait 15 minutes to get my food. at sonic, i'm impatient if i have to wait 5. i could see the wait being justified if it took 15 minutes to make my food fresh, but many times it certainly doesn't taste that way.

it's not bad, certainly worth going once to see if you like it. i tend to go every now and then, but nothing i'd go out of my way for.

a must visit. you will never go tosonicagain.  this is the best drive-in around! the menu is like sonic, but with taste! the onion rings are better here, the corn dogs are amazing, and the slushes are more varied and wonderful too. this locally-owned drive-in is the way to go. try a crimson and cream slush to truly have the norman experience.
