apple cake tea room

not going, ever!. i searched this restaurant after hearing the name and thinking it sounded like a nice place to go for lunch. after reading about the lack of common courtesy and consideration on the part of this owner and her employees, i will not be going after all. i am honestly appalled to read that a business owner is so unappreciative of customers to go to the extent of charging parents for their children just to be in her restaurant even if they do not order food because they might make a mess and to show no concern for a customer who has fallen. there are plenty of other good restaurants in town, we will not be going to this one.

small portions for too much. took a friend there for her birthday. i had been before one time and thought i would try again. it's a quaint place and i like the atmosphere although at busy times it gets a bit noisy. mostly women. haha. we both ordered the chicken salad with the banana bread, fruit and chips. the chicken salad is a small ice cream scoop portion on a piece of the lettuce. the banana bread are two tiny mice sized pieces. the chips are a handful which i felt did'nt compliment the meal. the fruit was a decent bowl size and delicious. the chicken salad is good but i've had better. it is pulverized chicken with no grapes, or celery in it. nothing identifiable in it but chicken. and a tiny sprinkle of pecan chips on top. the price was $8.75. the friendship tea they serve cold or hot. i got cold. it was served in a skinny glass and seemed to need more sweetener. it was $2.50 with free refills. the service was friendly. parking was at a premium at peak noon time. the pineapple and chicken salad with grapes looked like a better option as i saw as they passed by with them for other customers.

love that spiced tea! bad service, though. i recently visited the tea room, which is a rare treat since i work and don't get to go unless i have a day off. i had the chicken salad croissant and banana bread and of course the spiced tea. i go just for the tea it's so good. the food was delicious, but i feel it is overpriced. the worst part of my visit was the waitress. she was so unfriendly i felt uncomfortable my whole visit. never once even smiled and the service was terrible. it made me mad since i can almost never go, i'd like to be able to fully enjoy it when i can. still i love the log cabin and the tea and will go again someday. i just wish they would expand their hours to be more accommodating to those of us who work and can't get there during lunch hours.

nice little tea room in a log cabin. try the friendship tea, which is iced with orange & spices. they bring a complimentary bran mini muffin, which is moist & delicious. service was quick & friendly.

their tea room medley is wonderful! just wish they were open later than 2

chicken salad is incredible but portions are very small. a sandwich with chips & tea is $10. i'd say it should 2 $$ instead of 1.

my red hats love the actr. we have gone there several times as a group. we have taken our grandaughters "pinketts" we have always been treated well. when he was living my husband would go there. one of my dil bridesmade lucheon was there. the gd who went at 5 is not 15 and my red hat group celebrated my birthday there last tue. so with years of experience let me give an excellent to the actr.

i am very picky, the ck salad is great! the bananna bread is really good also. i have always just had carry out, so not sure on the service while eating there. carry out is good though

love this charming restaurant!!. my sisters and i, and many of my friends, have enjoyed this quaint and delicious eatery for years! every time my younger sister comes to town, it's a must-have and makes top priority on our list of things to do! the food, as always, is incredible! chicken salad on a croissant with a side of the banana nut bread with cream cheese is our fav. and of course, the friendship tea~it really sums up what the apple cake tea room is all about! we are always greeted with a warm welcome and the and service is excellent. we have made many precious memories here with friends and family over the years~celebrating birthdays, graduations & friendships. now that we have kids of our own, we enjoy bringing them to our favorite tea room and making new memories over tea and lunch!

love, love, love this place. i love to see long standing family owned businesses. i know times are tough for small businesses, and i credit the wonderful food and delightful atmosphere for the continuation of this wonderful restaurant. congrats on lasting this long, and good luck for many more years to come!

no small children wanted???. my husband and i recently moved back to the knoxville area from georgia. we are both professionals while i am currently staying home with our two children (5 yrs and a baby). we went to eat at the apple cake tea room several times since we moved here and my in laws enjoyed going when they were in town. the first time we went we learned that they only had a hot dog and pbj of which my daughter eats neither so she sat patiently and waited for the grown ups to eat. we have no family here so we recently brought in something for my daughter to eat so that my husband and i could still come to eat at this restaurant. we had done this before as we called and they told us to bring her food with us and we would have to sit in a designated area. after lunch, the waitress informed us that the owner had charged us a fee for our child to eat the food we brought. i went to the owner and she proceeded to tell me how horrible the children make messes in her restaurant with the brought in food and i assumed that is why she charges a fee. she said i will remove the fee this time but you do not know how messy it gets with these children. the owner stated that many children bring in food and i sensed this was irritating to her. i suggested maybe she could expand her children's menu. she stated she cannot please everyone and the fee was nominal. i will not return due to the principal of the matter and it is such a shame since our family enjoyed it previously. i do not feel like the owner or her front-end staff really desires children in their establishment. the reason i state this is due to when we came in and politely stated our daughter brought food as to sit in the designated area, whispering started and i was told it was going to be quite a wait. this critique is for all of us who have children who like more of a choice than a hot dog and pbj and enjoy feeling welcome where we are spending our money.

girls lunch. great food and i like the special tea, but if you notice, there are some male-unfriendly things written and posted with the decor around the restaurant. my boyfriend will never go back, so it will have to be lunch with the girls or not at all.

uncaring staff. in february several ladies that i work with and i met there for lunch. there was still snow in the parking lot and an elderly lady had fallen as she was coming in to eat. thankfully one of the ladies i work with was able to help her up and come in with her. upon telling the hostess that the elderly lady had fallen in the parking lot the hostess quickly told us that "that isn't our fault..it's up to the property owner to clear the snow"....not a i'm so sorry that happened, how are you, nothing!! made me think this was a snooty place to eat and i won't be back!!

ok, even if you're a guy!. this is a tea room, so when you go in you see ladies. but i've eaten there several times and the food is well-prepared and the staff is attentive.

the spiced iced tea is wonderful!
