where do i start?. went to restaurant for dinner on a friday night, arriving about 9pm. told there would be a 30 minute wait which we agreed to and stepped into bar. ordered drinks and served chips and salsa. salsa is wonderful, chips are terrible. too thick and too greasy. met the owner, blanca, who is charming. that is were our pleasant experience ends. seated at table. was excited to see the view however lights are too bright inside so you can't enjoy the view. waiter presented menus. i respect a mexican restaurant that does not list every combo known to man. i selected the sampler which included a quesadilla al carbon, tex-mex enchilada and chicken flauta. i asked the waiter if i could substitute the flauta for a bean and cheese chalupa (also on the menu.) he immediately told me no but said he would ask someone else. i saw him speak to a manager and returned with the same answer. no explanation, just no and that i could order a la carte. did i miss something? was i asking for a more expensive item? for principle, i stuck to their plate as is. food arrived, it was mediocre at best. never asked if we wanted another margarita or beer. never refilled water. we had to ask for additional tortillas. no dessert offered. bill presented and our "helpful" waiter received a $3/tip on a $40/bill. walked out of the restaurant past a manager and 2 hostesses without a "thank you" or "have a great night". in a city known for great mexican food and people don't mind going to a hole-in-the-wall to get it, a mediocre restaurant even with a great view won't last. train your staff. be flexible on a menu. reposition tables so that you don't fill like you are in a taco cabana. remember it is about the guest experience as well as the food.
