agashiye, a gujarati term that translates to ‘at the roof’. the restaurant is located at the top floor of the heritage hotel located in the heart of the city. the interiors of the restaurant emanate all the vibes of near independence era with large size charkha, bell metal artefacts, jute chairs, fountains with floating banana leaves and red rose petals, crafted bull heads.

at the entrance i was greeted by the staff who asked for my preference for thali out of the two available options viz. heritage classic in kansa thali and heritage grand in silver thali. while i was reading the items offered in each thali, i got perplexed and i turned to the staff for suggestions. the staff reply candidly “if you are less hungry, try the kansa thali, if you are very hungry, try the silver thali”. i laughed away and placed an order for a kansa thali.

as the name goes for ‘the heritage classic in kansa thali’, the food is served in bell metal (kansa) utensils. a royal experience begins when three servicemen approach your table each carrying different serving utensils containing varied items and each of them pours the offerings on your plate. there are 22 items included in the thali; the best ones to have are-
•bataka vada
•panodi
•rajasthani bataka
•fangavela kathol
•gujarati dal
•khichdi with ghee
•makai chat
•desi chana, tameta, keri
•mugdal siro (sweet dish)
•kesar pista ice cream

yes, i a hardtimefinishing all of it, and all of it was worth it.

the experience doesn’t end here. what followed to complete the lunch was a pan peti comprising pan leaves, and six quadrants in a box containing cloves, coconut and other items that would make a pan. to conclude the visit, at the table itself they brought a pitcher and bowl made of bell metal for washing hands.

as i finished dining, those three servicemen who served food, stood in a line and thanked me.

the experience at this restaurant is something i would cherish for long. thanks to the management for the amazing hospitality.

the experience in itself was too bad. the food was all sweet. even after asking at the booking counter as to whether the food wil be sweet which they assured will not be the case. however, it was too sweet. we paid approximately 1500 for each thali and there was nothing extraordinary in it. the better option is to spend that much and buy a kansa thali for yourself so that you can eat everyday in it. they allowed us in and while we were eating we were asked to take whatever we want on priority as they were closing we had to hurry up eating food. the ice creams served was already half melted and the chutneys served was also not good. overall a very bad experience will
not recommend to anyone. waste oftimeenergy and resource. dhokla served was not soft seemed like they were serving the same dhokla since morning and so was the case with the batata vada. yes forgot about basundi which was just plain flavoured milk and the pan is a farce it has fennel seeds and roasted dhana dal in it. a big disappointment ☹️☹️☹️

the taste as always has been the case with agashiye was excellent. however noticed some small misses thistimearound like only 1 sweet delivered instead of two and we specifically chose kadhi khichdi while placing the order, but what came was dal bhaat. no big deal, just some minor things perhaps they need to be more attentive of when packing for delivery. overall thanks for the lovely meal.

we had dinner last night. i read such rave reviews about this place and i was highly disappointed. they gave makkai rab instead of sherbet for dinner. there was nothing gujarati about this thali, so many vegetables available in winter and they were serving paneer, palak, potatoes and american corn with green pepper sabji. i have had better thalis on the highway. they had written dahi wada on the menu and served fried patra with bit of dahi and chutneys they keep on the table. bhakri was super hard and so was that paratha. methi wada wasn’t that great either. why are they not serving what’s in season and cooked the proper gujarati way?. a four star hotel restaurant serving such pathetic food, ruined our evening. the dhoklas, i almost forgot how terrible and half heartedly they prepared this staple snack. the dhokla were given tadka with just mustard seeds. couldn’t taste the hing, no chilies, coriander, sesame seeds or curry leaves. those masala bataka barely had any type of seasoning. please save your precioustimeand money. go to a local small business and get a thali. your taste buds will thank you.

we 5 person took lunch on sunday to have bettertimewith friends and family.
as contrary to my previous 6 visits, thistimefood was very bad. it was very blend and absolutely tasteless .
and to my surprise my wife and me both got gi infection ( absolutely in typicaltimeframe - incubation period and no other food taken afterwards). being gi surgeon , i wanted to avoid unhygienic restaurants to avoid gi infection especially in this post monsoon period.
their chutney bottles were so dirty and food was not upto the mark this time. so anyone wants to visit this restaurant , have a serious thought once again.
we expect better hygienic food especially from restaurant charging more than rs.7000 for 5 person and should retrospect themselves regarding quality of food.

earlier, we used to take guests here with lot of confidence, and never were disappointed. yesterday after a longtimewent to this place again and guess what??

the staff was not courteous. remember that most of the thali around the city are priced between 300-800 rs. so, if we are paying almost double than we except some class which wasn’t there anymore. all set up inside the small room so nothing looks gorgeous anymore.
food was okie. nothing great. only dhokla was there and we asked for refill and it took a longertimeto come.

i love this building and the ambiance but would not want to go back again to agasiye as there are much friendlier places around ahmedabad.

hi, i am sitting right here at agashiye, the service was rather poor today with everything that i ordered coming very slow. i was very patient by all means.. the food was not the issue.
suddenly itstimefor dessert and while clearing the dishes, the person who was collecting dishes was passing behind me hit the tray he was collecting on my head. the wooden trays have a pointed edge.. all the waiter or the manager did was say "sorry" and moved on back to their work. i had a legitimate amount of respect for agashiye, but after today.. i would not recommend it as they staff does not have basic levels of courtesy.

it’s an average restaurant, visited today firsttimebut it was not up to the expectations. ambiance was good and cleanliness was very good but the food is very average.
i am surprised to see that you have to pay 100% before you even enter the restaurant. price is extremely high if you compare it with variety and taste.

nothing wrong here but i will rate 3 start for ambiance and cleanliness.

starters: while i expected homely food, the starters were worse than what i made the firsttimei tried a dhokla and methi gota. these are not in picture because i was unimpressed when i saw them.
main course: the food was way too oily (kekudo, aloo and chole chana), the bharela parval seemed to have been crushed (as i couldn't see the bharela part of it at all)
deserts were worth dying for.

so i tried clicking great pictures but couldnt stop eating out of the thali, so bear with me. the thali is gigantic , you need to have real good apetite to even try each dish once and an amazing tummy space to get to the next serving. totally freak out with the generous helpings of aamras though.. we went their on a quiet sunday morning and got some discounts too, i think if you order before 12pm. little high priced but really worth it. im sure its more fun during evenings and do spend setimeadmiring the beautiful haveli.
