a happy anniversary experience!. my wife and i thorougly enjoyed celebrating our silver wedding anniversary on friday the 13th at vast. we dined on consistently well-prepared and delicious food and interacted with a professional, attentive and courteous staff from start to finish.
i made reservations two weeks in advance, fearing i might have delayed too long due to the restaurant's popularity. the scheduler handling reservations was pleasant and informative, explaining the dress code and parking availability and entertaining any questions i might have. i also received a phone message three days in advance confirming the reservation seating time.
valet or self-parking is available on the north side of the building (the valet parking fee is ten dollars). the parking valet was very pleasant and took good care of our vehicle. the devon energy tower lobby is absolutely beautiful, but i had to take a couple of rest breaks going to therestaurantentrance on the south side of the building since i'm disabled. the nice lady covering the front desk ushered us to the elevators, and we went to the 49th floor.
we were pleasantly greeted by the maitre' d, who advised us we could wait in the lounge while our table was being prepared. after a few minutes with excellent drinks while enjoying the spectacular view, we were seated at a corner table with breathtaking views to the south and west of the city. brad, our waiter, was very courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable, and thoroughly explained the evening's menu offerings, which we had previously researched online. vast has a detailed, easy to navigate website which is worth visiting in advance. we made our choices, and brad introduced us at our request to michael, our sommelier. michael has a wealth of information to provide regarding his craft, and suggested wine pairings for us which supremely complimented each course.
the meal began with a complimentary swordfish salad appetizer, followed by our first course. i had the bay scallops and mussels, and linda enjoyed the lobster ravioli with battered lobster claws, accompanied by three different kinds of bread. the opening round was impressive! that course was followed by beet salad for my wife, and i just had to try the sweet potato clam chowder topped with candied barbecued bacon-it was delicious! then they brought out muscovy duck for my wife and braised lamb shanks burgundy for me along with a couple of robust reds. the main courses were very tasty and well-presented. when it was time for dessert, i was desirous of the fried-pie bananas foster, but brad surprised us with a dark chocolate anniversary cake, a substantial compliment to the meal accompanied by a couple of vast's signature champagne cocktails!
thoroughly satisfied, we relaxed a bit while enjoying the night view before heading home. i expected our check to be moderately expensive (and it was) but both of us felt we certainly received our money's worth. oklahoma city visitors might want to research driving in that part of town or take a taxi. i look forward to us being repeat visitors in the future, as there are a number of menu items i'd like to try, like that bananas foster!
