my fav breakfast place!. i've been a fan of toast since they opened. the pancakes are light and don't leave you feeling like there's a cement block in your tummy. cliffie's plate is my regular dish of choice b/c i love a big breakfast. sometimes thewaitis long, sometimes the service is a little harried, i'd recommend going on a weekday to avoid the hustle and bustle of weekend brunch rush, or just getting there a little later. every experience i've had there has been a positive one, it's where i take out-of-town guests for breakfast!

a nice lunch spot for a group. this used to be my once a week work lunch spot when i worked downtown on east jefferson. it was close by, had decent parking, wasn't too expensive, and had both breakfast and lunch items to suit your mood. sometimes theres a smallwaitbut you are usually seated quickly and the service is prompt. my favorite were the blueberry pancakes, the california club panini, and the caprese grilled cheese with tomato soup. my friend always got the omelets (and the spicy bloody mary) and they looked really good as well. the specialty drinks are a little pricey like others had mentioned so i normally stuck to coffee (which is outstanding) or coca-cola. out of 30+ visits i don't really have any bad experiences to speak of.

best breakfast ever!!. it was sunday, toast closes at 3:00 pm, my husband and i arrived at 3:05, there were very accommodating and didn't make us feel bad for arriving after 3:00, did not rushed us to order either.
everything in the menu looked good, i asked our waited what she recommended, and she said the french toast, streak and eggs and she was right, it was delicious!!!. they came with hash browns, very different but much better then your regular hash brown. no matter what you order you won't be disappointed... can'twaitto go back..

i absolutely adore toast on market and judging by theirwaittimes every weekend so do you. toast has outgrown their tiny walls in downtown nulu and is temporarily closing to set up bigger digs: if you're heading there one last time before the move try my favorite: the bacon and egg sandwich with dijon vinaigrette, gorgonzola, applewood bacon and a perfect over-medium egg served with hashbrown casserole. oh- and one rum raison bread pudding pancake on the side. a la cart style y'all. my mother-in-law swears that their coffee is as good as disney coffee. now that's saying something. good luck with reopening toast !

nice breakfast experience. the agenda as we departed louisville included a mid-morning breakfast at toast, a stop which was a highlight of the day. i was torn between the monte cristo and the south of the border omelette, and ended up following the lure of chorizo offered by the latter. a side of hash brown casserole and a cup of coffee added to my order and i was ready to go.

my companion ordered two eggs over medium, which came with cut fruit as a side. toast's spot-on delivery of over medium eggs as advertised won a couple nods of approval. what it is about that netherworld between over easy and over hard that baffles some kitchen staffs seemed to be child's play for toast.

the coffee wasn't the greatest ever tasted, but good enough for me to have three cups, delivered from an attentivewaitstaff.

we enjoyed the experience and recommend it for others.

really disappointing. so today i went to toast on market for the second time. the first time (about 1 month ago), it was okay - nothing stella - but the coffee was really subpar. this morning we went because they opened earlier than other area restaurants and we were sorely disappointed.
again the coffee - really poor. we asked our waitress what they served and she said, "i don't know - some european blend. it's really good." um, no. it's just a shame that in a town with heine bros. and quills that they can't find something a little more palatable to serve.
today i ordered the bread pudding pancakes. when they finally came out, they were undercooked to the point of being raw in the middle - i could literally taste the batter. when i told this to the waitress, she begged to differ, saying, "well, they're different than regular pancakes - they're supposed to be a little raw." really? i said i knew it was a bread pudding spin and i expected a little gumminess, but that i could taste the batter. she kind of looked at me and said, "okay, i'll take them back." now, i expect (and i don't think unrealistically so) that when an order is poorly prepared (or raw) that the make-up order should go to the front of the line. rather, i sat there and watched my boyfriend eat his (also less than remarkable breakfast) for *15 minutes* before they brought out the second order. mind you, during that time we had just decided it wasn't worth it, cancelled our order, and handed over our credit card.
the manager came over and apologized and i explained to him that we were just really disappointed and he said, "oh, well, sorry."
so between the coffee, blah food, a waitress that couldn't have cared less, and a manager who just kind of shrugged his shoulders, we'll definitely not be going back. it's much more worth our efforts towaita little while until someplace like hillbilly tea opens their doors for breakfast.

good but crowded on the weekends. the first time i visited toast on market was on a weekend morning. my wife and i waited a good 40 minutes before we were seated, but we soon found out that thewaitwas worth it. the atmosphere is unique, if not a bit sparse, basic tables and chairs with large prints of people's faces on the walls stairing down at you. it kind of feels like you are sitting in an old church building, minus the stained glass windows, pews etc. there is the potential for voices to echo and during busy times it can be difficult to have a discussion at your table. they have a dlightful selection of french toast on the menu which i have tried each and every one. they are fantastic. they also have a wonderful basil tea that i just can't get enough of. i have been here several times since and every time has been equally as enjoyable.

not worth the wait. i've been to toast a few times and the food is pretty good. however, every time i've been thewaithas been so excruciatingly long i don't ever want to make the trek downtown. if you're going at an off-peak hour or day, go for it!

great food, great location. the first place we went to for breakfast was toast on market. it was busy, but not so busy that we couldn't get a table right away, and thewaitstaff was still very attentive to serving us. they had a small nook between the store front and the side walk where they had set up tables, creating a patio atmosphere. the negative aspect of this was that it faced the road, so the morning traffic could get loud at times, but it still enabled us to enjoy breakfast outside before the heat of the day set in, as well as being able to listen to and watch the mockingbirds as they went aobut their morning routine.

i ordered "the king" french toast--peanut butter, bananas, and marscapone cheese smoothered between two pieces of "brioche." now, i've had brioche from a patissiere before, and i'm not quite sure i would call the bread used in "the king" as a brioche, and i saw little different between this bread and other types of breads. it left me wondering if they just decided to use that name as a way of spicing up the name and sound of their french toast. other than that, it was delicious, and i didn't even need the syrup that came with it. my side was fresh fruit, which i normally pass on, but their fresh fruit contained apples and oranges, which was a pleasant departure from the standard pineapple and melon that seem to be the fresh fruit option at a lot of other restaurants.

tammy ordered the lemon souffle pancakes, sans the blueberry compote. these were another fine choice from a standard pancake, with a delicious lemon flavor throughout the pancake, bringing to mind a lemon cake, and once again, requiring no other toppings on it to fully enjoy it. in fact, a topping may have taken away from the deliciousness of the pancake.

despite the fancy descriptions and an obvious desire to be an upper tier restaurant, the prices here were very reasonable--being no more than any of the major chain restaurants that are known for breakfasts, but with more selection and a more satisfying experience.

located near downtown and not far from the eccentric and ecclectic bardstown, toast on market is in a convenient location to get to.

the place to go for breakfast.. i love the staff here, always on top of it, very professional experiencedwaitstaff--not like some of the bored kids you run into at certain other establishments . . .ahem.

but, the food is awesome too, of course, waffles with berries, lemon pancakes, mediterranean omelette . . . the hash brown casserole is delicious.

the place just has a great vibe, great food, cool people--good people watching . . . . nice place to take out of town company.

sadly disappointing. i had heard so many great things about toast on market, which is why i am so disappointed by my average experience.

first, i didn't mind waiting for a table ... i fully expected that given the restaurant's popularity. however, thewaitfor our food was excessive.

my husband got an omelette with chorizo, which was good, but nothing special. i had the caprese grilled cheese, which was underwhelming at best - and it was barely warm by the time it arrived. i also ordered the black bean soup after mentioning to my server that i did not want the chili because it was too meaty. upon receiving the black bean soup, i learned it was swimming with bacon. granted i should have asked, but you would think my server would have picked up on the fact that i don't like meat given our previous conversation.

my last complaint has to do with the coffee: i read in a previous review that they serve complimentary coffee for those waiting for a table. upon arrival, i noticed a coffee station with mugs and a carafe. i asked if this was for those who are waiting and was told it was. i poured myself half a cup. i proceeded to decline refills for the rest of the meal, and upon receiving my check saw i was charged $2.50 for what wasn't good coffee to begin with.

if i do return to toast, i will likely stick to breakfast fare - probably either french toast or pancakes.
