i got to know about this place through zomato, while looking for the places to dine in the city. so, i went for the dinner with my cousins. from outside it looks like a bungalow, but once you will enter the bungalow you will get the restaurant. the ambience is very good, even the interior of the restaurant is well designed. once you will enter the place you will see the tulsi plant at the front which will give you a home like feeling. the sitting arrangement is also done in two styles. on the front the sitting pattern is designed in village style & at the back you will find it in modern city style. the dinning tables which are at front are of low height, so u will have to sit after removing your shoes.

talking about the food, we order 1 singapuri noodles, 1 masala dosa, 1 cheese plain dosa and 1 south indian thaali. the service was prompt, within 10 - 15 minutes we got our order. the quantity of the food was quite enough. each and every item was good in taste, be it dosas, noodles & thaali. the quantity of thaali was quite enough for 2 people. overall the quality and quantity of food was upto the mark.

talking about the staff, they were quick in their services. they were dressed in typical south indian style. i even asked one of them to click pictures for us. overall, it was a nice experience. would love to visit the place again.

it was a trip with the family for a night of dosas. the ambience was good, as the owners have attempted to recreate the scene from a village in southern india, however, overall the food lacked the oomph. the dosas were nice & crispy, but were lacking the authentic flavors. the proportion of masala to the dosa was off. would i go here for another night of satisfying my south indian food craving, probably not.

the to go order for the masala dosa was packed meticulously.

overall, a good but non memorable experience!

eatsalott a good place to have south indian cousins. a bit lack of spices but the chutney and rasam is really good. prices are affordable and quantity as well as quality is also good.

one of the first places to serve proper south indian food in a proper restaurant in allahabad. not located in the main commercial area, so can be hard to find at first.
the ambience is nice and seating spaciously sufficient.
service is decent. and the food is good. definitely will recommend it.

an authentic south indian restaurant, best part being its ambiance with a desi look, the waiters are also dressed up in lungi-kurta, adding to desiness. food is also very south indian, best in the category. service is also very good.

tamarind tree is an authentic south indian restaurant in allahabad. the seating area is peaceful and the ambience is great! i used to be a regular customer there and had been to this place many times. i had also celebrated one of my birthday there. the food used to be great till some years ago. the taste used to be very good. however, on a recent visit, i didn't like the taste and everything tasted stale. the service is just ok, not good and not bad.

the place was quite peaceful with lots of interesting interior decoration. the entrance was wonderful with lots of plants. ambience was good and the seating arrangement was amazing. we ordered veg spring rolls and fixed thali. the items were quite satisfactory in quantity. rasam, curd and coconut curry were excellent and the sambhar was same north indian style sambhar. spring rolls were stuffed with lots of cabbage and onions which were moderately cooked. overall the experience was good. the menu is different from what they are showing here. i am attaching the updated menu. ☺

i'm giving a rating of 2.5 just for the ambiance. food is so average. u can get south indian food better than this at other places like dosa plaza and bikaneri. staff is nice and well behaved. if u r planning go there just for the ambiance than its fine but if u want to have authentic south indian food than its not a good option.

for the ambience i will give full marks to it. but being such a popular restaurant in town the main course items it serve are not upto the mark. desserts are the best you can eat here.

i had heard a lot about this place from my friends who are from allahabad. since i was in town i decided to give it a try.
the place is very beautifully decorated with wooden lamps and chairs! the walls are covered with art work done with jute ropes! i was truly mesmerised by its beauty.
we had ordered a cheese plain dosa which seemed a rarity in most south indian restaurants. and just my friend said- the dosa is worth it! it has the perfect amount of cheese. the sambar isn't very spicy which makes it suitable for all palates.
they welcome you with a rather unusual but delicious imli drink.
high on flavours and low on cost!
this place is a gem!
