the highway / hwy

just had a sunday sesh with the guys. all were really happy. buffalowingsgood value and delicious blue cheese sauce. to be honest unless thewingsare covered in franks hot sauce i'm a bit biased but these were yum!! the buffalo burger was loved and the chicken schnitzels were enjoyed by all. good tunes not too loud and great atmosphere.
soup of the day was a delicious bowl of chilli. all in all it can be hit and miss today was definitely a hit.
they also have asahi on tap ❤️❤️❤️

what is going on out there with the price of pub meals? some of them are really getting up there, matching restaurant prices and some menu items are close to fine dining prices? and the highway is no different. some menu items were priced within the pub range that anyone would expect, like burgers, pizzas,wingsetc, but when i saw the specials board, which had a rib special on for $42, well i have to say, i was a little gob smacked, jaw dropping surprised! chicken maryland at $28? this is chicken maryland peeps, not duck! on the other hand, you can get 300g scotch fillet for $36 with accompaniments? go figure?

for these prices, you still have to collect your own meal from the pass in the kitchen when your buzz buzz thingo goes off!

however, this really is a very nice place to have a drink outside and it’s quite pretty in the evening, they have live bands as well.

we ordered steak sliders and buffalowingsfor lunch. sliders were dry, brioche buns not fresh, lucky we had the blue cheese sauce from thewingsand added it to the sliders for moisture. a good amount ofwingswere on the plate, but the sauce was terrible, tasted like plain old tomato sauce, no vinegar hit at all.wingswere also dry. blue cheese sauce saved the day!

will return for band and drinks, but probably not for the food!

fail wings. clearly the person that put buffalowingson the menu had never actually had one. buffalowingsare not just grilledwingswith nepolitan sauce. tasted like dipping a plain boring wing in boring tomato based pasta sauce, crap!

lounge bar. we shared the american platter: the two cheeseburger sliders were delicious and the only really tasty element; the pork ribs were well cooked but lacking in flavour (and the serving was too small); the fries were basic frozen shoestring fries; the smoky sauce tasted watered down and the chickenwingsalthough cooked well and crispy had absolutely no seasoning or flavour whatsoever! disappointing and we won’t have that again – although we will go back to try other things from the menu because it sort of had potential and there are some things on the menu that we would like to go back to try. the staff were friendly pub folk, the outside area looked great and we’ll be out there next time.

highway - sunday. what can i say - delicious. have been to the highway on the odd sunday arvo and it always delivers. from 3pm there is live music, a 'see and be seen' crowd, good atmosphere and delicious food. four of us had a selection including my scrumptious beefburger with the most scrummy chilli jam, nothing was left on my plate. my partner had the buffalowingsand ribs, ditto - he enjoyed every mouthful. our dining companions pushed the boat out and had a parmi - respectable and the seafood platter with filo wrapped, absolutely scrumptious prawns - give me a whole plate of them - crab, squid and whitebait. job well done hwy inn.
