the highway / hwy

had a dinner with family prior to a jazz sa night, with nazareth catholic performing early on.  very friendlystaffand a nice decor in the dining room. meals ordered and served in a timely manner.  i had the 'burger' which presented the burger challenge of how does one eat a tall burger?  brioche bun along with usual burger, bacon, etc.  nice fries with it and a nice meal overall.  the friendlystaffand the nice decor tap it up to a 4.  happily come back some time.

we had a large group catch up at the highway. even though the highway was really busy that night with a lot of large groups we did not have to wait long for meals. the servicestaffwere excellent.

a group of us were celebrating a birthday, some of us underage couldn't even order soft drinks or water without a form of id when no alcohol was purchased at all. thestaffwere so incredibly rude, never coming again.definitely ruined us trying to celebrate a friends birthday.

the bistro has lovely decor with a gas fire tucked away at the end of the room.
my sister's glass of wine was poured at the table immediately after we ordered drinks but i watched as my husband's & my drink sat on the bar waiting to be delivered to our table withstaffwalking back & forth past them, empty handed, studiously ignoring them, which was frustrating.
i had the prawn pizza which is a rectangle served on a wooden platter. while it was hot, it was tasty but as it lost heat, the base seemed doughy & underdone. it could have done with a minute or two more in the oven. also, the tomato slices on it were anaemic. 
my husband had the beef schnitzel with diane sauce served on the side - standard pub food. the accompanying salad was disappointingly undressed.
my sister had the bbq pork ribs, a generous serve which she thoroughly enjoyed, the meat very tender & falling apart - her only quibble was the coleslaw wasn't spicy at all (as per the menu), so she added lots of pepper to it. also, a finger bowl was brought to her abut half way through the meal.

this place is revolting. supporting this venue would be supporting discrimination. we live in the city and headed out to do some shopping on anzac highway today and thought we would try this venue for a quick lunch. we chose not to go into the restaurant area as even though lunch time we were not really dressed for this so we sat in the indoor/outdoor area. a femalestaffperson promptly proceeded to embarrass us, telling us there was a dress code focusing on my husbands 'tracksuit' pants (they are black sports pants) when there were multiple other people in the venue dressed very casually including wearing thongs! we both work in human services and very familiar with the treatment that people receive due to other people's value judgements. thisstaffperson decided that we were not the kind of human beings that should be served. no, we were not dressed up but we were both wearing clean, casual clothes, does this mean we cannot buy lunch in a pub? no it doesn't we went back into the city and to a hotel close to home that can provide customer service. we have never been refused anywhere and my husband turns 40 next month, so we know it is not about us at all, this is a venue that condones discrimination

i came here last night with my partner to eat a nice meal but we got far from that i orderd the crispy chicken breast number 1 if the menu promises a crispy chicken breast thats what i would expect not a soft soggy fatty bit of chicken fat on top complained tostaffand got a replacement my partner got the roast for $28 all he got was 3 peices of pork fat and onions it was way over priced for what we got, the only thumbs up where the replacement schnitzel and service was good.

i like a sunday afternoon in the beer garden. especially when they have a live band.staffare generally friendly. pub grub food, with sometimes interesting offerings like deep-fried pickles, which i had seen in a movie but not tried before. i liked their pear salad when they had that, too. couldn't recommend dining in the restaurant part with kids though. it just isn't kid friendly and they only had one high chair. good, comfy beer garden with an impressive big screen - probably a plus for people who enjoy footy. i've never been to a movie night there, but think it would be fun. they have some good events advertised.

lousy steak. meal delivered definitely wasn't promised scotch filet - find a new butcher! complained tostaffbut no apology.

went for a sunday lunch. menu system confusing as main menu stated available all the time although we were told to select from the smaller menu. service was good.staffpolite. food reasonably quick approx 20 minute wait. we had various dishes:- ribs, burger, schnitzel and fish plus garlic bread - all hot and delicious.

lounge bar. we shared the american platter: the two cheeseburger sliders were delicious and the only really tasty element; the pork ribs were well cooked but lacking in flavour (and the serving was too small); the fries were basic frozen shoestring fries; the smoky sauce tasted watered down and the chicken wings although cooked well and crispy had absolutely no seasoning or flavour whatsoever! disappointing and we won’t have that again – although we will go back to try other things from the menu because it sort of had potential and there are some things on the menu that we would like to go back to try. thestaffwere friendly pub folk, the outside area looked great and we’ll be out there next time.

took some interstate business guests here 2wks ago.staffknowledgeable and professional. food great and a fairly good wine list. very glad i choose to take them to the hwy. thet created a good impression which reflected on me.

we went to the highway for lunch to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. there were 7 adults 3 kids and a baby, all but one enjoyed their meal, my daughter didn't like the kids pasta and i am not sure why they chose a capsicum base for kids, would imagine a tomato base would be more popular. the waitstaffwere all very friendly and did their jobs well and quickly. the decor is great with some nice art on the walls and all fittings are high quality. the menu has a huge range, as you expect at a pub, but they seemed to do the variety of food well. great for larger groups as there will be something for everyone. we'll go back again.
