pub food
the bistro has lovely decor with a gas fire tucked away at the end of the room.
my sister's glass of wine was poured at the table immediately after we ordered drinks but i watched as my husband's & my drink sat on the bar waiting to be delivered to our table with staff walking back & forth past them, empty handed, studiously ignoring them, which was frustrating.
i had the prawn pizza which is a rectangle served on a wooden platter. while it was hot, it was tasty but as it lost heat, the base seemed doughy & underdone. it could have done with a minute or two more in the oven. also, the tomato slices on it were anaemic.
my husband had the beef schnitzel with diane sauce served on the side - standardpubfood. the accompanying salad was disappointingly undressed.
my sister had the bbq pork ribs, a generous serve which she thoroughly enjoyed, the meat very tender & falling apart - her only quibble was the coleslaw wasn't spicy at all (as per the menu), so she added lots of pepper to it. also, a finger bowl was brought to her abut half way through the meal.

what is going on out there with the price ofpubmeals? some of them are really getting up there, matching restaurant prices and some menu items are close to fine dining prices? and the highway is no different. some menu items were priced within thepubrange that anyone would expect, like burgers, pizzas, wings etc, but when i saw the specials board, which had a rib special on for $42, well i have to say, i was a little gob smacked, jaw dropping surprised! chicken maryland at $28? this is chicken maryland peeps, not duck! on the other hand, you can get 300g scotch fillet for $36 with accompaniments? go figure?

for these prices, you still have to collect your own meal from the pass in the kitchen when your buzz buzz thingo goes off!

however, this really is a very nice place to have a drink outside and it’s quite pretty in the evening, they have live bands as well.

we ordered steak sliders and buffalo wings for lunch. sliders were dry, brioche buns not fresh, lucky we had the blue cheese sauce from the wings and added it to the sliders for moisture. a good amount of wings were on the plate, but the sauce was terrible, tasted like plain old tomato sauce, no vinegar hit at all. wings were also dry. blue cheese sauce saved the day!

will return for band and drinks, but probably not for the food!

the highway launched their new winter menu last week which featured a whole-lotta mushrooms – making hump day more bearable – and nutritious. located on 290 anzac highway in plympton, you too can grab a warm, hearty meal from this fancypubthis season and not feel at all guilty about it! after being left energised and feeling healthy after consuming the many different kinds of mushroom varieties, we can proudly say we 100% recommend the whole-heartedly-made meals.

went here tonight with a few friends
i ordered the 200gram beef burger
the brioche bun was very soft and fresh,.
there must've been half a cos lettuce in mine
the beef patty was very flavoursome,
everyone else seemed happy with their food too
it's typicalpubfood but was done well, the only thing to pick on is it took over half an hour for the food to come out,but they were quite busy

easy for a midweek dinner with the girls. quick and friendly service. the menu ispubgrub, with lovely pizzas too, all of a considtantly good quality. counter service, and the give you a buzzer thingo to let you know when your food is ready. the out swig beer garden area is light and comfortable and means you can sit and enjoy. the place, for its size, has a great vibe.

good food, great atmosphere. my boyfriend and i went to the highway on saturday and it was packed! we had to sit outside because there was no room inside, our own fault... we didn't make a reservation. it's okay though, we sat near a heater! the atmosphere at the highway was awesome. they had a large screen on which the football game was screened and everyone was drinking, eating or socialising! the food was nice, i had a chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce and my boyfriend got the ribs. he let me try some of the ribs and they were amazing!!! so tender and the bbq sauce they put on them was to die for. he let me dip some of my schnitzel into the sauce because it was heaps nicer than the pepper sauce i got. the schnitzel itself was nice but i've definitely had better pepper sauce before. great place to go for a goodpubmeal and a great atmosphere

i like a sunday afternoon in the beer garden. especially when they have a live band. staff are generally friendly.pubgrub food, with sometimes interesting offerings like deep-fried pickles, which i had seen in a movie but not tried before. i liked their pear salad when they had that, too. couldn't recommend dining in the restaurant part with kids though. it just isn't kid friendly and they only had one high chair. good, comfy beer garden with an impressive big screen - probably a plus for people who enjoy footy. i've never been to a movie night there, but think it would be fun. they have some good events advertised.

the highway has won a stream of aha awards and rightfully so. since the renovations back in ’06 (i’m guessing here!) they have drawn crowds of diners and party-goers. the hotel boasts a huge beer garden area (heated for those colder months!) with a monstrous screen to watch your favourite sport. ( the hwy ) 8. casablabla (cocktail bar) casablabla has a very inviting feel to it, drawing inspiration from morocco, turkey, bali and cambodia. sit back, relax with a cocktail and enjoy the salsa and flamenco dancers that regularly hit the d-floor. ( casablabla ) 9. the wheatsheaf hotel (front bar/pub) the wheatypubis a hidden gem for all the craft beer aficionados out there. regularly hosting craft beer launches, meet the brewer sessions and more. they have a pretty impressive range of beers available so you’ll find something that you love. ( the wheatsheaf hotel ) 10. cantina sociale (wine bar) i’m yet to visit but it has made the top 10 due to all the positive reviews i’ve been hearing la

vego food at the highway inn. the highway is my local pub. my partner and i, who are both vegetarian, go there often. and we often bring other vegetarian friends. why do we go to the highway like, all the time?
1. because they make me a vegie burger when i ask (it's not on the menu, but they'll always make it for me, no probs)
2. because their eggplant and chevre pizza is to die for (once again, not on the bar menu, but they'll make it when i ask, no prob)
3. because it's a fabulous place to meet groups of friends, including kids and babies (running around space, playing on ground space)
4. because they have indoor and outdoor fires in winter
5. because they'e had mulled cider recently!
6. because you can go to the restaurant, the bar, or the sports bar - all very different spaces
7. and because on friday nights a very cute woman serves us drinks at our tables, and makes us feel special
it's the best suburbanpubin adelaide!

lounge bar. we shared the american platter: the two cheeseburger sliders were delicious and the only really tasty element; the pork ribs were well cooked but lacking in flavour (and the serving was too small); the fries were basic frozen shoestring fries; the smoky sauce tasted watered down and the chicken wings although cooked well and crispy had absolutely no seasoning or flavour whatsoever! disappointing and we won’t have that again – although we will go back to try other things from the menu because it sort of had potential and there are some things on the menu that we would like to go back to try. the staff were friendlypubfolk, the outside area looked great and we’ll be out there next time.

service wise, the highway has got it spot on. the two waiters who dealt with us were both professional and efficient while being friendly and accommodating. the highway demonstrates that apubcan serve good, interesting food and be a better than average venue for a meal out. we’ll definitely return.
