the fish house

20 years of going here but the food isn't what it used to be. waited 35 minutes to get a shrimp po-boy that consisted of a dozen previously frozen breaded salad shrimp on a day old bun. they need a new manager.

enjoyed everything. liked everything about our experience here--the customer service was particularly great--would certainly do back!

overrated. the fish house is one of those places that thinks it's waaaaay better than it actually is, just look at the prices and you'll agree. the food is just okay, the service is decent, and the location is pretty good, but i don't see what all the fuss is. just because you're the home base for scarborough whenever he and mika are in town, or you got some exposure on "american pickers" doesn't make you the spot in pensacola. you still gotta earn it, and the fish house isn't trying hard enough to do that. tourists will come because they saw the upper west side of manhattan crowd in there, and the swells from pensacola will still go because they think it's the place to be, but for us regular folks, who might wear tennis shoes or the occasional python boot, the fish house is overrated, overpriced, and over the top. save your money and skip it.

great food and service. definitely worth the 20 minute wait.

very good, we're going back. the only complaint is the hostess made us wait about 5 minutes and she was talking on the phone, and to other employees. we were about ready to leave. once seated everything was wonderful. i got barbequed shrimp appetizer and blacked shrimp for dinner. quality was good. my wife got blackened mahi mahi and it was a couple huge chunks of tasty fish. my folks split the shrimp over grits. that stuff was to die for. i'm not into grits but i was cleaning up after them. i will get the shrimp over grits next time.

my friend ordered the dungenous crab and i order the crab cakes. my crab cakes had a strange flavor to them and i wouldn't say they were good or bad. i did soak them in lemon and that seemed to help make them more edible for me. the meat itself was very tender and cooked properly. i just didn't like the flavor. my friend dungenous crab was over cooked and she spent a lot of time ripping shred by shred out of the shell. she also said it was over salted.

not good. don't go. got a club that was supposed to be 'piled high'-what a joke. it was like some fingerfood appetizer pressed little,let me emphasize little, sandwich. everythings overpriced. fish of the day was tilapia. enough said. any decent fish was an extra 5. this is the fish house right? farm raised chinese freshwater fish. wow. fried green tomatoe was best thing we had. cheesecake was near frozen sysco crap. solid artificial chocolate flavor. horrible. save your money. can't believe a restaurant on pensacola bay is even serving tilapia. was good like 5 years ago. oh my wife got the chicken sandwich and we had to send it back. dry rubbery tasteless joke of a sandwich. will never go back and i'm a native

went to fish house after hearing some good comments from friends...we were completely disappointed. husband had grits a yaya, shrimp were very salty, grits tasted like nothing but bacon, rediculous at almost $20. i had southern fried scallops which were obviously previously frozen, tiny, and very fishy...with mashed potatoes that had a very strange taste and started tasting worse and worse as i ate...hushpuppies that were extremely dry and corn fritters, best thing of the night. we ordered the seafood pizza as an app. , and although it did not taste bad it wasn't anything to brag about...all in all terrible dinner and way overpriced, will not be going back.

i wish i had read the reviews before i ate here, but i didn't feel the need to since i thought this was an inexpensive version of the fish house encore, which i love. i had the 'fish n chips basket', the fish was very overcooked and the breading was very bland. i actually would have sent it back if i wasn't so hungry. i kept looking at the fish while eating it because it had the texture of chicken and i thought they mistakenly gave me chicken! i won't be back, should have gone to hobos where it's about $5 cheaper for the same thing but they give you more too and it's much better tasting. i think this place could use a deep cleaning.

gumbo is good. sitting outside is next. expensive.

this is my second visit to the fish house. in my opinion it's not as good as the grand marlin or hemingway's, but it is a good place to eat when you stay at a hotel in town and don't want to go back to the island on your way out. i like the rustic fishing camp look, but the restaurant is confusing and pieced together. the outdoor seating looks nice. we sat inside since it was a little warm. my kids liked the fish tanks indoors anyway. i had the fish tacos and they were very tasty. my older son had the kids macaroni and cheese and it was really good (i tasted it)! my youngest had the grilled fish with fries. the fish was bland, which is probably better for most kids, but my kids are half (india) indian and raised in louisiana, so it didn't do much for them flavor-wise. we also had the crab cakes appetizer and it was great. the cakes were a little salty for me but the candied roasted pecans that accompanied them really balanced that out and the dish was great overall. we will return during a future trip if we stay off the beach. the service was excellent. oh, i forgot to say that while there is no drink menu, i asked my server if the bartender could make me something blue an tropical. i saw him talking with the bartender and apparently discussing options. he came back with a tall, blue drink that was delicious! it had blue rum, pineapple juice, and other stuff, but i'm not sure what. i really enjoyed it (i also posted a pic of it).

terrible. this place is terrible and i have no idea why anyone says they like it. i think the seafood you get here must be frozen and shipped in from utah or something instead of fresh! i have talked to others who have gone and they have said the same thing. do not waste your time and money on this place there are soooooo many places in key largo and the keys in general that are better than this!

not wonderful. ordered the "matecumbe fish which is their signature dish and
it was flavorless and seemed overcooked. appetizer of coconut shrimp was
not impressive either. service was attentive and food came quickly which explains
why it seemed like it was boiled and not delicious.

excellent all around. we went there after my parents recommended we go. they had the steak and mahi mahi salad and loved both. we loved the view and vibe of this place, casual but still classy at lunch. great bay & marina view and great location. my husband & i had the steak sandwich with aus ju and their burger. for an appetizer we had the seafood flatbread which was very tasty, would recommend to anyone! he liked his steak sandwich and my burger was great except the chef had reading problems.....i ordered my burger with cheddar, blue cheese & bacon. when i got my burger it had no bacon, i assumed the waitress wasn't listening. we forgot all about it then after we paid i stopped to look at receipt and we were charged for the bacon. it was 1.00 our card had already been swiped and my husband did not want to wait around for a 1.00 refund but i have to mention it on here as a reminder to all :-) check your receipts! don't hesitate to eat though! i wish we had found it sooner before our return home i would've eaten there a couple more times over!
