went to fish house after hearing some good comments from friends...we were completely disappointed. husband had grits a yaya, shrimp were very salty, grits tasted like nothing but bacon, rediculous at almost $20. i had southern fried scallops which were obviously previously frozen, tiny, and very fishy...with mashed potatoes that had a very strange taste and started tasting worse and worse as i ate...hushpuppies that were extremely dry and corn fritters, best thing of the night. we ordered theseafoodpizza as an app. , and although it did not taste bad it wasn't anything to brag about...all in all terrible dinner and way overpriced, will not be going back.

terrible. this place is terrible and i have no idea why anyone says they like it. i think theseafoodyou get here must be frozen and shipped in from utah or something instead of fresh! i have talked to others who have gone and they have said the same thing. do not waste your time and money on this place there are soooooo many places in key largo and the keys in general that are better than this!

excellent all around. we went there after my parents recommended we go. they had the steak and mahi mahi salad and loved both. we loved the view and vibe of this place, casual but still classy at lunch. great bay & marina view and great location. my husband & i had the steak sandwich with aus ju and their burger. for an appetizer we had theseafoodflatbread which was very tasty, would recommend to anyone! he liked his steak sandwich and my burger was great except the chef had reading problems.....i ordered my burger with cheddar, blue cheese & bacon. when i got my burger it had no bacon, i assumed the waitress wasn't listening. we forgot all about it then after we paid i stopped to look at receipt and we were charged for the bacon. it was 1.00 our card had already been swiped and my husband did not want to wait around for a 1.00 refund but i have to mention it on here as a reminder to all :-) check your receipts! don't hesitate to eat though! i wish we had found it sooner before our return home i would've eaten there a couple more times over!

worth another try, but initially not overly impressed considering the hype. after living in pensacola for almost a year, my wife and i finally made it over to the highly coveted restaurant, the fish house.

my first impression is that i was under dressed, as all the waitstaff were all wearing white collared shirts and otherwise formal attire.

my second impression was this wasn't a cheap restaurant. i'm not a big fan of places that i'm dropping a lot of money when in the end it all goes to the same place, but i like a good value for my dollar. throwing caution to the wind we went ahead with our order. the waitstaff was very attentive and on top of our water glasses, never once did it go more than half empty in the entire time we were patrons there. that is an important thing i look for in the waiters.

also, i was somewhat disappointed in the limited selection on the menu. i was under the impression from my peers reviews of the place that it was more than just a sushi bar, and while that is true, everything was jazzed up in an exotic manor. i very much enjoy interesting dishes, but i have to be in the mood for that. i just wanted some sort of grilledseafoodplatter and there was nothing like that on the menu.

after seeing the couple at the table next to us order the grits a ya ya, my wife ordered that, and i ordered theseafoodgumbo and two sushi rolls, which slip my memory as to which ones, but they were two of the more expensive rolls. the food was hot (where applicable) and the presentation was excellent. the gumbo was very delicious, hot, and the rolls were very good. my wife was commenting on how good hers was, the shrimp and grits combination was a hit for her.

in my typical fashion, we did not leave room for dessert, but we did order a piece of key lime pie to take home. once again, my wife ate the piece of pie before i was able to, but it looked delicious and judging on the way her ass shakes now she likely has had more pieces since! (i kid, but seriously).

the food was good, hot, and arrived in a timely manor.
limited menu when it was hyped up to be something more than a sushi bar. i was expecting some less exotic menu choices. additionally, apparently my wife and i were given two different menu's that also listed two different prices for the grits a ya ya (a $5 dollar difference).

very fast. ambience is, well let’s call it rustic. like an old florida place on the side of the road in the keys rustic unpretentious. the blackened dolphin sandwich (not the mammal porpoise, but what has now succumbed to being called “mahi mahi”) was cooked perfectly. a great variety ofseafoodon the menu as you would expect based on the name. i would go back again.

inside does not match the outside. beautiful "date night" quality atmosphere even though my family of 6 was here for lunch. service was superior. they started us with samplings of gumbo and shrimp chowder, both really good but the shrimp chowder was our favorite. if they had brought us these before we ordered we may have actually ordered some of the shrimp chowder. the fish bites were very tasty with a little heat, yum! the dressing they came with was subpar like mayonnaise-y ranch out of a bottle. they deserved a better, more complimentary dip/sauce. all theseafoodwas cooked to perfection. i 1st thought it was a little pricy but portions were generous. never been a fan of jumbo shrimp so i had the large which was quite large enough. cooked perfect and very tasty.

we were guided here by a local who was looking to impress the visiting crew from corporate who were my liaisons during the job. ended up being a party of eight, some picky eaters in the bunch, too...... why tag along to aseafoodplace if you don't eat seafood?! but the boss lady insisted and everyone tagged along...i was prepared for the worst..... ended up liking the menu and felt we got a great value. the head of the table ordered plenty of appetizers from grouper bites (great!) to the sushi (ok) to spring rolls(odd sauce, but tasty) and then we ordered huge platters, several cocktails were had as well. the signature dish of shrimp and grits "a ya ya" was pretty good but myseafoodplatter was the best of what i tried-and i got to try everything around the table, since portions were humongous. i was able to substitute snapper (grilled) for tilapia (really?tilapia? good grief) and it was excellent . i also got as much of the platter grilled as i could, but the massive oysters were fried... and we're very flavorful considering how bland the raw ones have been in pensacola so far. i ate way too much, finishing this platter....come hungry, or be warned. turns out this place met its reputation.... i liked it for what it was. there were a few marks against them, though..... the deck was covered in flies....and the fans didn't help. i spent too much time shooing flies than i wanted.... and there was some confusion when a runner delivered a plate to our table when no other food was present-clearly a mistake-and a waiter passing by recognized it as his missing entree.... not a big deal, but shows some poor training or lazy waitstaff... was quickly handled, but could have been easily avoided. looking for a casual, delicious, traditionalseafoodhouse? you'll
do no better than here (despite some poor reviewers experiences) and while 385.00 for eight might seem a little high, we did dent the bar and appetizers menus pretty hard before the meal....,i think we did alright..... would come again, when i'm back around these parts!

it had been a while since me & the hubby got to go out to dinner by ourselves so we choose the fish house (was last there about 2 yrs ago) to start off we had to wait 15 mins (not a big deal) but when we were seated there was only 3 tables occupied (why the wait???) when i didn't like the table the hostess gave us (samantha?) she kind of got a little snippy (i didn't want to be sandwiched between 2 tables of a 4 top) well the waitress (shanna) was great but the food was bleh!! i got the parmesan crusted fish, which had no flavor. my husband got the fried oysters and if wasn't for the crust there wouldn't of been anything to eat. the oysters were tiny & really dark colored. all in all i would not go back to this place. if you want some goodseafoodgo to chet's in pace.

can't thank them enough for staying open past their official closing time to feed us. super delicious! theseafoodplatter was very well cooked. lightly fried, not too heavily breaded, and well seasoned. the gumbo and the chowder were also very good. only complaint is that the turnip greens were a bit too salty, but that's a minor quibble. overall very impressed.

the "iconic" fish house... really?. i googled "fish house in pensacola " and this popped up. by its description i recognized it as the one touted by joe scarborough on msnbc's morning joe . so i perused the menu posted on line and it sounded great. the building looked the part and the atmosphere was wonderful on this night of perfect weather. the "asian style" calamari sounded like a dish we used to relish at the captain's tavern in miami. but it arrived nothing like it. instead it was deep fried, overly breaded (most probably sold frozen as such in bags) and served with an uninspired sauce not much better than the duck sauce that comes in little plastic pouches at low end chinese restaurants. myseafoodplatter came with 5 medium sized shrimp, 5 plump fresh oysters breaded so aggressively it was like armor. why would a restaurant in a region of the world known for its oysters serve them like that? that's akin to a great steak served smothered in ketchup! the fish, which thankfully along with the shrimp was offered cooked one of several ways, came blackened and was sea trout. any other fresh fish would have added $4 to the $26 price. it was a thin piece about 1/2" thick and way drier than it should have been. the best things on the plate were the sides, a nice rendition of grits (their version called ya ya grits) cost an extra buck fifty because of the "ya ya" sauce on top while collard greens were delicious and perfectly seasoned. when i referenced it, our waitress told us up front that the menu posted on line was old and no longer accurate. why? a few clicks could have remedied that and painted a more truthful picture - including higher prices, sadly, i'd have to say the copywriter responsible for those dated descriptions was far more talented than our chef on that night.

i am from maryland, and i admit i can be aseafoodsnob, especially when it comes to crab. the fish house makes a crab cake that is the best i have ever eaten. it almost pains me to say that it is superior to any crab cakes i have had near the chesapeake bay itself. also, the black and blue yellowtail snapper was probably the best fish dish i have ever eaten. amazing waitstaff as well. eat here. it will be the highlight of your stay in the keys. i guarantee it.

after reading the reviews, we were excited to eat at the fish house on or first night in key largo. all was going well - on a very busy night we were seated within twenty minutes. but things fell apart quickly. my mother in law, who does not eatseafoodand likes small portions, asked for the chicken fingers. the waitress rudely told her she couldn't do it because she was over 13 in a condescending manner. and when we pushed, the manager did the same. we left and will never return. by the way, the rest of our party of four were well over $30 each on our meal orders.
