the fish house

enjoyed everything. liked everything about our experience here--the customerservicewas particularly great--would certainly do back!

overrated. the fish house is one of those places that thinks it's waaaaay better than it actually is, just look at the prices and you'll agree. the food is just okay, theserviceis decent, and the location is pretty good, but i don't see what all the fuss is. just because you're the home base for scarborough whenever he and mika are in town, or you got some exposure on "american pickers" doesn't make you the spot in pensacola. you still gotta earn it, and the fish house isn't trying hard enough to do that. tourists will come because they saw the upper west side of manhattan crowd in there, and the swells from pensacola will still go because they think it's the place to be, but for us regular folks, who might wear tennis shoes or the occasional python boot, the fish house is overrated, overpriced, and over the top. save your money and skip it.

this is my second visit to the fish house. in my opinion it's not as good as the grand marlin or hemingway's, but it is a good place to eat when you stay at a hotel in town and don't want to go back to the island on your way out. i like the rustic fishing camp look, but the restaurant is confusing and pieced together. the outdoor seating looks nice. we sat inside since it was a little warm. my kids liked the fish tanks indoors anyway. i had the fish tacos and they were very tasty. my older son had the kids macaroni and cheese and it was really good (i tasted it)! my youngest had the grilled fish with fries. the fish was bland, which is probably better for most kids, but my kids are half (india) indian and raised in louisiana, so it didn't do much for them flavor-wise. we also had the crab cakes appetizer and it was great. the cakes were a little salty for me but the candied roasted pecans that accompanied them really balanced that out and the dish was great overall. we will return during a future trip if we stay off the beach. theservicewas excellent. oh, i forgot to say that while there is no drink menu, i asked my server if the bartender could make me something blue an tropical. i saw him talking with the bartender and apparently discussing options. he came back with a tall, blue drink that was delicious! it had blue rum, pineapple juice, and other stuff, but i'm not sure what. i really enjoyed it (i also posted a pic of it).

not wonderful. ordered the "matecumbe fish which is their signature dish and
it was flavorless and seemed overcooked. appetizer of coconut shrimp was
not impressive either.servicewas attentive and food came quickly which explains
why it seemed like it was boiled and not delicious.

the fish house. i absolutely love the fish house. the food tastes fantastic every time, and theserviceis outstanding. every time i've had a waiter or waitress they were extremely prompt and always made sure my time at the restaurant was a pleasant experience. five stars.

the oysters were huge and fresh! first time i had crab, i don't see what all the fuss is about. i don't like fighting with my food and it's a real battle getting the shells off some of those claws and getting the meat out those joints.i think i'll stick to shrimp and lobster. the food andservicewas excellent though.

have eaten here several times. the food &servicehas always been great. a good place for a quality meal with a nice setting. (chocolate cheesecake to die for!!)

inside does not match the outside. beautiful "date night" quality atmosphere even though my family of 6 was here for lunch.servicewas superior. they started us with samplings of gumbo and shrimp chowder, both really good but the shrimp chowder was our favorite. if they had brought us these before we ordered we may have actually ordered some of the shrimp chowder. the fish bites were very tasty with a little heat, yum! the dressing they came with was subpar like mayonnaise-y ranch out of a bottle. they deserved a better, more complimentary dip/sauce. all the seafood was cooked to perfection. i 1st thought it was a little pricy but portions were generous. never been a fan of jumbo shrimp so i had the large which was quite large enough. cooked perfect and very tasty.

went here today for a friend's birthday, and theservicewas horrendous. our waitress, jennifer, took 20 minutes to take our order. the food finally came out 1 hour after we ordered, and the plate was sizzling hot, but the food was cold. we also got charged $1.50 for yaya sauce that we never got, and had to get it taken off. when we ordered a slice of chocolate cake, it came with hair in it. finally, 18% tip was mandatory...it was included and we really did not think it was deserved. it actually felt likeservicewas sub-par because the waitress already knew she would get 18% from everyone. never going back.


on a side note, don't order the calamari appetizer. it's battered fried calamari with a strange, honey-like sauce. the calamari was okay, but the sauce was...really not great with fried calamari.

gone downhill. i used to go to the fish house at least once a month (if not more), over the past 10 years. however, over the past 2 years, it has gone down hill fast. theserviceis still good, but the food is barely adequate. there are many restaurants in the area that are better priced and much better in food quality.

good food, cramped and unattractive atmosphere inside. we sat outside and enjoyed our meal.servicewas excellent. highly recommend the hogfish matecumbe. fresh with lots of taste! the lobster bisque wasn't very good, but the fresh key lime pie made up for it! homemade daily, so i recommend.

very good fish. highly recommended by three friends. not full so seated right away.servicewas pleasant and efficient. my wife and i both had yellowtail metacumbe, a house specialty. fish was excellent, served sizzling hot. vegetables were disappointing, except the cole slaw, but we went for the fish. large portion. could not finish it after the conch chowder--good but should be spicier. went to mrs. mac's the next night---the fish house was much better, although pricier. would definitely go back.

awful!servicewas horrible, other tables were waited on before us that were there after! my husband ordered lobster and complained about it and they said that's bc it's not maine lobster and if we had asked their recommendation before our meal they would have told us its not good?? just seemed odd! wasted $50 tasteless meal!

not-so-good. returning to florida from a family vacation, we were all looking forward to some good florida seafood. we searched for an authentic seafood restaraunt and drove out of our way to the fish house. theservicewas great and my wife and son enjoyed their meals. i ordered a platter made up of fish, shrimp, and oysters. the fish was bad - i mean spoiled, like it had been laying out too long. i don't see how the chef could have missed this and i am disappointed that he/she chose to serve it anyway. we do not recommend this place.

you can have your cake but you can't eat it. i visited the fish house and after dinner we decided to order the key lime pie.
we wanted to eat two slices of pie and take the rest home.
the restaurant would not allow us to eat the pie we purchased.
i spoke to the manager and they told me they did not allow the pie to be eaten for dessert under no circumstances. if we wanted to have dessert we needed to purchase two more slices above and beyond the pie we had just purchased. i told them i would pay any kind ofservicecharge they wanted but that was not an option. this kind of treatment to local top paying customers is just stupid . why does a restaurant want to upset a good paying customer over a piece of pie is beyond me . i will not go here no more. lazy days in islamorada is much better and they know how to treat there patrons.
