my friend ordered the dungenous crab and i order the crab cakes. my crab cakes had a strange flavor to them and i wouldn't say they weregoodor bad. i did soak them in lemon and that seemed to help make them more edible for me. the meat itself was very tender and cooked properly. i just didn't like the flavor. my friend dungenous crab was over cooked and she spent a lot of time ripping shred by shred out of the shell. she also said it was over salted.

not good. don't go. got a club that was supposed to be 'piled high'-what a joke. it was like some fingerfood appetizer pressed little, let me emphasize little, sandwich. everythings overpriced. fish of the day was tilapia. enough said. any decent fish was an extra 5. this is the fish house right? farm raised chinese freshwater fish. wow. fried green tomatoe was best thing we had. cheesecake was near frozen sysco crap. solid artificial chocolate flavor. horrible. save your money. can't believe a restaurant on pensacola bay is even serving tilapia. wasgoodlike 5 years ago. oh my wife got the chicken sandwich and we had to send it back. dry rubbery tasteless joke of a sandwich. will never go back and i'm a native

went to fish house after hearing somegoodcomments from friends...we were completely disappointed. husband had grits a yaya, shrimp were very salty, grits tasted like nothing but bacon, rediculous at almost $20. i had southern fried scallops which were obviously previously frozen, tiny, and very fishy...with mashed potatoes that had a very strange taste and started tasting worse and worse as i ate...hushpuppies that were extremely dry and corn fritters, best thing of the night. we ordered the seafood pizza as an app. , and although it did not taste bad it wasn't anything to brag about...all in all terrible dinner and way overpriced, will not be going back.

this is my second visit to the fish house. in my opinion it's not asgoodas the grand marlin or hemingway's, but it is agoodplace to eat when you stay at a hotel in town and don't want to go back to the island on your way out. i like the rustic fishing camp look, but the restaurant is confusing and pieced together. the outdoor seating looks nice. we sat inside since it was a little warm. my kids liked the fish tanks indoors anyway. i had the fish tacos and they were very tasty. my older son had the kids macaroni and cheese and it was reallygood(i tasted it)! my youngest had the grilled fish with fries. the fish was bland, which is probably better for most kids, but my kids are half (india) indian and raised in louisiana, so it didn't do much for them flavor-wise. we also had the crab cakes appetizer and it was great. the cakes were a little salty for me but the candied roasted pecans that accompanied them really balanced that out and the dish was great overall. we will return during a future trip if we stay off the beach. the service was excellent. oh, i forgot to say that while there is no drink menu, i asked my server if the bartender could make me something blue an tropical. i saw him talking with the bartender and apparently discussing options. he came back with a tall, blue drink that was delicious! it had blue rum, pineapple juice, and other stuff, but i'm not sure what. i really enjoyed it (i also posted a pic of it).

if you're in it for the food, don't bother with another restaurant on key largo. eaten at a bunch, and this is the one that actually serves wonderful, well-prepared fresh fish. great from start to finish. there is no tiki bar, no waterfront dining, no live music. just reallygoodfood and a relaxed atmosphere. a cut above everything else we have found on key largo.

worth another try, but initially not overly impressed considering the hype. after living in pensacola for almost a year, my wife and i finally made it over to the highly coveted restaurant, the fish house.

my first impression is that i was under dressed, as all the waitstaff were all wearing white collared shirts and otherwise formal attire.

my second impression was this wasn't a cheap restaurant. i'm not a big fan of places that i'm dropping a lot of money when in the end it all goes to the same place, but i like agoodvalue for my dollar. throwing caution to the wind we went ahead with our order. the waitstaff was very attentive and on top of our water glasses, never once did it go more than half empty in the entire time we were patrons there. that is an important thing i look for in the waiters.

also, i was somewhat disappointed in the limited selection on the menu. i was under the impression from my peers reviews of the place that it was more than just a sushi bar, and while that is true, everything was jazzed up in an exotic manor. i very much enjoy interesting dishes, but i have to be in the mood for that. i just wanted some sort of grilled seafood platter and there was nothing like that on the menu.

after seeing the couple at the table next to us order the grits a ya ya, my wife ordered that, and i ordered the seafood gumbo and two sushi rolls, which slip my memory as to which ones, but they were two of the more expensive rolls. the food was hot (where applicable) and the presentation was excellent. the gumbo was very delicious, hot, and the rolls were very good. my wife was commenting on howgoodhers was, the shrimp and grits combination was a hit for her.

in my typical fashion, we did not leave room for dessert, but we did order a piece of key lime pie to take home. once again, my wife ate the piece of pie before i was able to, but it looked delicious and judging on the way her ass shakes now she likely has had more pieces since! (i kid, but seriously).

the food was good, hot, and arrived in a timely manor.
limited menu when it was hyped up to be something more than a sushi bar. i was expecting some less exotic menu choices. additionally, apparently my wife and i were given two different menu's that also listed two different prices for the grits a ya ya (a $5 dollar difference).

gumbo, $3.95: it came out ingoodtemperature with a little kick to it. the texture was rich and filled with ingredients. it was decent.

soul rolls, $9.95: chicken and collard greens fill crisp spring roll wrappers; served with peach chutney, wasabi crème, and brown sugar-pecan creole mustard dipping sauce. the plating wasgoodand it could use more of the wasabi creme. the sauce complimented the rolls well. this was my favorite dish out of the bunch.

benedict acadia, $14.95: a mix of applewood smoked bacon, crawfish, tasso, peppers, onions, topped with a soft-poached egg, finished with hollandaise, on toasted english muffins. the egg did not look appetizing at all and it was cold when i took a bite of it. the mixture didn't really taste much of anything. hollandaise? what hollandaise? the egg did cook togoodconsistency for an egg benedict. that's the onlygoodthing i can say about this plate.

inside does not match the outside. beautiful "date night" quality atmosphere even though my family of 6 was here for lunch. service was superior. they started us with samplings of gumbo and shrimp chowder, both reallygoodbut the shrimp chowder was our favorite. if they had brought us these before we ordered we may have actually ordered some of the shrimp chowder. the fish bites were very tasty with a little heat, yum! the dressing they came with was subpar like mayonnaise-y ranch out of a bottle. they deserved a better, more complimentary dip/sauce. all the seafood was cooked to perfection. i 1st thought it was a little pricy but portions were generous. never been a fan of jumbo shrimp so i had the large which was quite large enough. cooked perfect and very tasty.

we were guided here by a local who was looking to impress the visiting crew from corporate who were my liaisons during the job. ended up being a party of eight, some picky eaters in the bunch, too...... why tag along to a seafood place if you don't eat seafood?! but the boss lady insisted and everyone tagged along...i was prepared for the worst..... ended up liking the menu and felt we got a great value. the head of the table ordered plenty of appetizers from grouper bites (great!) to the sushi (ok) to spring rolls(odd sauce, but tasty) and then we ordered huge platters, several cocktails were had as well. the signature dish of shrimp and grits "a ya ya" was prettygoodbut my seafood platter was the best of what i tried-and i got to try everything around the table, since portions were humongous. i was able to substitute snapper (grilled) for tilapia (really?tilapia?goodgrief) and it was excellent . i also got as much of the platter grilled as i could, but the massive oysters were fried... and we're very flavorful considering how bland the raw ones have been in pensacola so far. i ate way too much, finishing this platter....come hungry, or be warned. turns out this place met its reputation.... i liked it for what it was. there were a few marks against them, though..... the deck was covered in flies....and the fans didn't help. i spent too much time shooing flies than i wanted.... and there was some confusion when a runner delivered a plate to our table when no other food was present-clearly a mistake-and a waiter passing by recognized it as his missing entree.... not a big deal, but shows some poor training or lazy waitstaff... was quickly handled, but could have been easily avoided. looking for a casual, delicious, traditional seafood house? you'll
do no better than here (despite some poor reviewers experiences) and while 385.00 for eight might seem a little high, we did dent the bar and appetizers menus pretty hard before the meal....,i think we did alright..... would come again, when i'm back around these parts!

it had been a while since me & the hubby got to go out to dinner by ourselves so we choose the fish house (was last there about 2 yrs ago) to start off we had to wait 15 mins (not a big deal) but when we were seated there was only 3 tables occupied (why the wait???) when i didn't like the table the hostess gave us (samantha?) she kind of got a little snippy (i didn't want to be sandwiched between 2 tables of a 4 top) well the waitress (shanna) was great but the food was bleh!! i got the parmesan crusted fish, which had no flavor. my husband got the fried oysters and if wasn't for the crust there wouldn't of been anything to eat. the oysters were tiny & really dark colored. all in all i would not go back to this place. if you want somegoodseafood go to chet's in pace.
