atmosphere is a 5.0. located on marsh with outdoor seating under the canopy of big live oaks, and looking over the water. very infromal and super fun. also have an exhibit of live alligators which is great for the kiddos. however the menu is small and the food is not anything too special. mostly buckets of seafood like shrimp, oysters and sausage. we would be there all thetimeif their menu was a little better.

this is an absolutely outstanding seafood restaurant with all of the wonderful beach ambiance. the food is 4+ stars out of 5 stars. the service was 5 stars. all of the food that i had and my guest ate was correctly seasoned with  the proper portions.the atmosphere is laidback and unpretentious, but the wait staff and bartenders keep a watchful eye out for their customers in seeing that they lack nothing to hinder having a wonderful dining experience. i also keenly noticed that they also anticipated their customers needs correctly before i could request something. i was told ron hill is a longtimerestaurateur at some of charleston's excellent seafood establishments and both his training and experience rise up to and beyond the task of providing a most welcomed experience of dining out. just wish i could pack up this place and take it home. .respectfully, don bradley (formerly from orangeburg now from goose creek)well done mr. hill and you wonderful restaurant staff !!!. .

great atmosphere great food. weekend trip to fb for a r&r trip. cool and rainy the wholetimebut the "shack" was the answer. i'm sure it gets packed in the summer but do not miss a chance to dine here. andrew was our server. attentive, quick with suggestions but not pushy. we had the grilled shrimp and crab cakes. cakes were great, not alot of filler, no shells and perfect seasoning. key lime pie is also highly recommended. thanks shack and thanks andrew! we'll be back soon.

overpriced for the quality of food. husband had low country boil/shrimp and was no better than if you had bought it at a local grocery store. barbecue was decent. corn was the best. just two pieces of dry toast with the bbq and had to track down our server to get butter. worst service we have had in a long time. our server had a table of friends hanging out so we had to actually get up and go to him as well as get things off the empty table next to us. i think the atmosphere is the attraction. too many other good seafood restaurants in the area to wastetimehere. just drive by and look at the decor....it's cheaper.

really good. we've been trying the she crab soup at many different restaurants trying to find the best one, and this place has it. it has little crab bits in it and is very savory - my favorite so far. i ordered a crab cake plate and it came with a side of potatoes and vegetables; phenomenal crab cake, the flavor is great! we sat outside on the patio area during sunday lunch time.the overall feeling was very laid back, and it is dog friendly.

the secondtimewe came in, again during sunday lunch time, we were the first customers to come in that morning and were excited to finally get a chance to come back again for the same experience. unfortunately, both the soup and the crab cakes came out tasting old and luke warm. we brought this to their attention and thankfully they were accommodating.

the service was inconsistent in our experience, but when they get the food right, they really get it right. nexttimewe'll try the steamed seafood basket.

for main, my daughter and i shared cap’n crab’s sampler. this was a massive platter of mussels, crawfish, shrimp, snow crab, jonah crab, sausage, potatoes and corn. this was popular choice on many tables and deservedly so. the relative low point was the crawfish that were pretty unexciting. the mussels were reasonably good but the rest of the plate was great. the sweet, tender snow crab was the highlight and i could have happily eaten much more. the juicy shrimp were the benchmark for anytimewe ate shrimp during the rest of the trip and the sides of buttery corn and mildly spiced sausage provided welcome flavour and textural contrasts to the seafood.

simple and delish!. our firsttimeto folly beach, we stumbled on this resturant. i loved the relax atmosphere and the friendly service, which adds to the laid back beach town vibe. no wait time!
the kids had the fried fish and licked the plate clean. however not on the kids menu but on regular menu.
we had the steamed seafood bucket and the fried green tomatoes. the food was simple and fresh just how seafood should be. so i would definitely recommend it and can't wait to go again when we visit.

dont waste your money!. spent $45 on a lunch that consisted of some pea size oysters, dry crab cake and new england clam chowder (or as my hubby said...great potato chowder, a few clams would have been nice). i did enjoy the brunswick stew. horrible service and rediculous prices are what you get. what a rat hole this place was! crappy service! the server spilled the clam chowder all over the side of the table and had the nerve to laugh at her own clumsiness but didn't think it was important enough to wipe up. i think this place has become a roadside type place for tourists and they quit worrying about the quality of their food and anything resembling decent service alongtimeago! don't waste your time!

not as i remembered. i used to come to this place everytimei visited folly in early 2000s. thistimearound the seafood in the steamed bucket was a bit chewy and disappointing. but the she crab soup was perfection.
