every time we come to kitchener we always come to thisrestaurantas they are the most consistent for service, presentation, quality and reasonable prices!!!
today we had breakfast /brunch and it was all great. best of all they have great coffee.
a must if u r in the area!!

horrible service.. this review is a little late, this experience happened back in apri.. however, thought it was important to note.
i went in with a friend for brunch on a saturday around 11:30am. therestaurantwasn't very busy and we were seated right away. no waitress showed up at our table for 20 minutes, despite other tables being sat around us after we sat and getting glasses of water and receiving acknowledgment from the server. we had to stop a waitress to inquire if we could get a waitress. instead of taking our order, or grabbing a drink order, she ran off saying she would find our waitress. 5 minutes later she showed up. took only our drink order and ran away beforf we could say we could give our entire order. took another 10 minutes to get drink of tea, coffee and waters and to take our orders. food arrived quickly, however i asked for an additional item which never showed up. our waitress never bothered to ask how we were doing halfway through our meal so i couldn't even bring it to her attention. unacceptable service from arestaurantthat is supposed to be "high end". i'm a waitress myself, and so i know what good service is, and bauer was exceptionally bad.
would have asked to speak to a manager, however, i didnt have time as i was on my way to work, so i sent them an email letting them know of the terrible service we received. got a reply from the manager, julie, offering me a gift card to make up for the lack of service and to provide my address. replied to her with my contact information and i have yet to receive any acknowledgment of my email or the gift card that was promised to me. if you're going to offer a solution to a serious lack of service i received, you should honestly follow through. never been so disappointed in the service in arestaurantbefore and i am a foodie who eats out 2-3 times a week. haven't ben back since and will never set foot in the bauer kitchen.

went there for brunch and will be returning. was extremely pleased. tried the eggs benedict and my meal was very tasty and cooked wonderfully. my only complaint would be that the hostess tried to sit my fiancé and i at a table next to the kitchen when therestaurantwas only approximately half full. we moved. problem solved : )

lovelyrestaurantfor brunch. went back for their smoked salmon benedict twice and i am always pleased. the biscuits pair very well with the eggs and salmon except the home fries, overly roast. other than that, service is good and therestaurantambient is lovely.

did i mention they have lovely oreo biscotti at the bauer cafe? very delicious and excellent pair with a cup of joe.

culture. i was at the bauer for the first time last week. i found the menu limited and similar to a lot of the ones related to thisrestaurantlike wildcraft etc

the bauer kitchen is part of the charcoal group . in my honest opinion thisrestaurantgroup has been at the forefront of good cuisine in the kitchener waterloo area for years. however, with the addition of the bauer kitchen they have now provided the trendy high impact restaurants which are not common to this area and are a dime a dozen in toronto! so when friends asked us to join them for brunch, it was easy to suggest that we go to the bauer kitchen for brunch. so start we ordered the "smoked and grilled brie". this is served with pickled cantaloupe, bacon jam, candied pecans and crostini. this was delicious. the cheese was melted to perfection. the pickled cantaloupe was amazing and i actually believed that it was apricots. the piece

tsk tsk. well, that was disappointing! tbk is/was arguably the bestrestaurantin town but... what happened? my husband and i have been going here since the first week they opened (we are members of their bite club). we even had our wedding reception in the party room (and it was lovely, really). i think there has been a slow decline; the menu is becoming so-so and unfortunately our very favourite dish is now... kinda gross! we both ordered the short rib gnocchi and were disappointed in the change; what was that horrible horseradish and what did they do with the fresh stuff they used to put on it? and what happened to the grated lemon? was that parsley on it instead? it wasn't very good - i didn't even finish it this time! our waitress was impatient and seemed to be rushing us out despite a very empty restaurant. and finally, our biggest disappointment - the dessert. they used to have the most amazing selection and it now falls flat. we ordered the stacked chocolate cake and it tasted like it came from a box. i cannot believe this is the same place i used to go to - just to get the dessert. can't say that i will be returning to tbk for dinner any time soon!

hands on, the bestrestauranthere, great selection of food (duck confit, brie cheese, gnocci... etc. you name it) definitely great for parties or just a romantic date!

duck wings!. this is one of my favouriterestaurantin kw.

i have been there multiple times and i think they deserve a good rating.

food:
their short rib gnocchi is a must and their coffee is so good!!! :d bone marrow is amazing but if you're on a budget, i recommend the duck wings, you get more and you feel fuller!

service:
not to mention their service is impeccable!

i can guarantee you all that you will not regret this.

on your way out, don't forget to take their sweet treats (minty chocolate).

not perfect but pretty darn good. the service was average and seemed a bit rushed despite the fact that therestaurantwasn't busy. the waitress did everything she was supposed to, though.

the atmosphere was lovely, i went on a date and it was a good setting for it.

we split the chipotle pork belly pizza and a roast chicken dish.

the pork belly pizza was delicious in flavor (8/10) but the bottom was a bit soggy... eek.

the chicken was very basic, nothing inventive, but it was done well. a classic, plain dish.

i like that you can order 3 oz glasses of wine here - sometimes all i want is a taste so the amount was perfect for me!

pretty face, high prices, mediocre fare. the bauer kitchen looks pretty but don't be fooled by the gorgeous interior - it may resemble an up-scale establishment but this is merely a thin veneer disguising an otherwise sub-par establishment.

therestaurantstrives to achieve a semblance of ambiance and it does manage to do just that. the decoration is gorgeous with incredible brick and woodwork. the bar is stocked with a perfect mix of liquors, including some decent upper shelf selections and is supported by a decent menu of fashionable cocktails and old favourites.

the staff, however, is another story. the hostess barely acknowledged us, speaking very little and wearing a frown that could stop a clock. our server was brusque, rather snippy and carried on as though we were bothering him; we certainly were not made to feel welcome. unfortunately, even though the restaurant's appearance is top notch, the overall atmosphere suffers considerably at the hands of its staff.

we had a party of six visit for a work lunch and none of us were satisfied with our food, especially at the prices this diner is charging.

the server was brutally honest and we should've clued in that something was wrong when we enquired about the special and stated that it wasn't that good - that "none of the meat dishes are flavourful". by the end, some picked through the remains of the plain, tasteless fare whilst others expressed disbelief that their food had been so bland.

being new to the restaurant, i erred on the side of caution ordered the "bauer butcher burger, reckoning that it would be rather difficult to mess up a simple burger. alas, i was wrong. the server's warning proved true - the burger was poorly done - unseasoned beef with tasteless toppings served on a slightly stale bun and a side of cold french fries.

to be quite frank, if the meal hadn't been expensed by our vp and i had been there alone, i would've sent the meal back; being in the company of co-workers and an executive, however, i chose not to make a scene so as not to diminish the moment as we were presenting an award.

i will not return because to be frank, if i am to pay prices such as thisrestaurantcharges, i will go to anotherrestaurantwhere i know i am going to get quality food and service for my money.

i do not recommend the bauer kitchen and give it a thumbs down - there are other up-scale restaurants in the area that do a much better job at, well, just about everything.
