good not great. for us, ted andwally'shas been hit and miss. we have visited several times and sometimes have been impressed and sometimes nonplused.

on a recent visit i enjoyed a very good avocado ice cream and while my fiancé and parents enjoy more traditional options such as lemon custard (excellent) and butter pecan (pretty good). on another visit, the flavor selection was un-intriguing and non-inventive.

the staff has generally been helpful, though on our recent visit one staff member couldn't figure out how to give proper change to my father and tried to argue with him, before eventually admitting she made a mistake.

overall, its probably omaha's best local ice cream, but i have enjoyed much better other places.

meh.. can we please take ted &wally'soff of the pedestal that omahans have put it on?! it's okay. just okay. just because they make the ice cream themselves and it is located in the old market does not automatically make it great.

flavors are imaginative, but then, they have to be when you're paying for two scoops what an entire half gallon of premium ice cream would cost you at the grocery store.

parking is awful.

lines can be long and employees bark at customers when the lines are long. it seems their solution to long lines is to treat their customers like idiots and publicly berate them. if they don't have the patience for a endless line of distracted customers, then they should probably find another line of work.

seating is scant.

mostly it's just average. some flavors are good, some are okay, and some are bad. is it worth the old market parking and crowds and the elevated cost? i think not.

really?. i cannot understand why anyone would prefer maggie moo's over ted & wally's. granted, the staff is young & surly (hey, anyone else remember when they were 19 years old), but the quality and flavor choices for the ice cream are fantastic! if you really need to avoid the hipster aspect of t&w's, just order at the counter and walk out. my wife and i get a pint or two to go from ted &wally'severy week; i just wish i could make that pint last longer than the night i buy it!

they're local, they're fresh, they're inventive, they're great. you will not find a better ice cream experience in omaha.

what are they thinking?. ted &wally'sis one of those places that has gotten a great reputation by really having little competition in it's niche: locally-made ice cream. i must admit that i'm a little biased going into this writing as the owner's pulled out of a second location (pulling their trademark, too) from the ice cream store in dundee which formerly carried the ted &wally'sname because it wasn't as profitable as they would like. these aren't the kind of local heroes anyone should admire, yet here we are. it's really not hard to make a decent cup of ice cream and ted &wally's*can* make ice cream, but they do it in a retro building in the old market and even have dedicated parking which is cool and refreshing, respectively. but, i'm afraid, as happens far too often, the place is just another downtown, hipster-operated dump which feels shamefully sidelined by an owner who probably has other profitable endeavors to attend to. i'm glad ted &wally'sexists. we need local restaurateurs, but with the clean, franchisable maggie moo's across the street, ted &wally'sshould probably step up their hiring and clean their restrooms. being in the old market is no longer an excuse for being rundown and dirty. note: this review was reposted because of wierd levels of kudos. additionally, despite what the well-written pr response says, the general consensus (likely not by accident) is not the story given in reply.

tasty fun. the ice cream itself isn't that much better than other area options, but what does set ted &wally'sapart (especially from its franchised competitors) is the constantly changing array of unique flavors. you just can't find these creative choices at cold stone.
it's located in what seems to be an old garage with a retro-ish atmosphere inside to match. the place is very popular (it can be a hipster haven) and there is usually a wait, but it's always fun to stop after a summer evening in the old market.

fan for life. ted &wally'swill always be my old market ice cream place. despite the maggie moo's chain across the street, i will always go to ted and wally's. the customer service is fantastic, even in the middle of the summer when the line is out the door, there are so many options, and the staff is phenominal. if you've never been, it's recommended!!

great ice cream-great business!. i'm not a huge fan of ice cream, but i was turned onto ted &wally'sfirst because of the quality of the business. i had heard of the shop from people i work with and have had the great pleasure of occasionally speaking with the owners (one of them is a frequent supporter of my shop). i love supporting local businesses that are hard working and have an honest business ethic so i decided to try them out. now, i'm hooked! i go as often as i can, have told people in other states about them, drag my friends (although its not hard to twist their arms to go!) and highly recommend them. the environment is relaxing and family oriented. it attracts every crowd possible from the elderly to highschoolers looking for a harmless pasttime to families with children. their popularity shows when you see a line out the door on a late monday night while maggiemoos sits empty across the street, and trust me the wait is well worth it! i said i wasn't a huge ice cream fan, but the hometown welcoming feel of the shop isn't the only reason i patronize them...the ice cream is fantastic!!! all homemade, any flavor you could ever imagine and always fresh! you can even custom order something if you don't see it and if they have never seen it-they will at least give it a shot! their ice cream tastes just as fresh and real as its ingredients and i have never been disappointed or even hesitant to try a new flavor. coldstone? maggiemoos? i'll wait in line during a blizzard for a single scoop from ted & wallys before thinking about the other shops!!

i'm addicted!. i remember, growing up, my dad would bring out the old hand-cranked ice cream maker and make us kids take turns turning the handle until the ice cream was done. it was hard work and seemed like it took forever, but it was so worth it! nothing store bought ever measured up. it never quite had that same flavor. i don't know what makes that flavor i'm talking about, but it makes the ice cream really good! ted &wally'shas that flavor in their ice cream and it has to be because they make it the old-fashioned way, using the rock salt and real cream. they even have the machines out front where you can see them. luckily for their employees, they are not the hand cranked kind. i go there whenever i can, cuz i love me some ice cream! i'm always amazed by the array of creative flavors, it's hard to decide. there is a line out the door sometimes, but the anticipation is all part of the fun, giving you time to make up your mind. it's hard for me to get down there as often as i would like, but i've noticed that pints are being made available at different stores around town, too. you don't get the unique atmosphere that way, but it's still the same great ice cream. way to go!

the cherry on top of my old market evening. my husband and daughter and i like to stroll down to ted nwally'safter having dinner in the old market. i've always found their place to be clean and neat with competent, service-oriented employees. the atmosphere alone is worth it and i wouldn't ever set foot in maggie moo's. there are maggie moo's places all over the country, but there is only one ted nwally'sand only one place with the inventive flavors they have. i love knowing that the ice cream i'm getting is fresh, made on-premises, and is unique. :) i've always had great experiences there and love that place. :)

yummy yum yum!. i love ted n wally's. this place is a credit to our city. first of all, their ice cream is flippin' delicious, and dare i say, famous! ted nwally'sis an omaha original! they have so many flavors and they're so creative. i didn't know so many things and concepts could be made into ice cream! the atmosphere is super cool too, with occasional live music and local art on the walls. :) me and my family love going to ted n wally's!

an old market original!. ted andwally'sis great. they have interesting ice cream flavors (grand marnier or guinness, anyone?) and it's all homemade right there in the shop. maggie moo's opened up across the street to capitalize off people who couldn't be bothered to wait in line to get ted & wally's. (go after 7 pm on a summer night and there will be a line, but it's worth the wait!)

any kind of cake batter flavor i've ever had here has been amazing, and if you're lucky, you'll stop in on a night when they have guinness flavored ice cream, which is my absolute favorite.

the atmosphere is neat as well--the store is decorated with posters of local bands and concerts; sometimes they even have shows in the ice cream shop! if you're in omaha and have never been, it's worth a try.

really..... i would have never tried ted & wally's, but a friend of mine worked there over 10 years ago. the ice cream is unbelievably good. i used to think all ice cream was the same, but it's not. if you go there you will understand what i mean. the unique and various flavors at t.w. never cease to amaze! did i mention the atmosphere and contribution that t.w. makes to the local arts and music community. ted &wally'sis in a league of their own!!! hands down!!!
