family and out of town guest met for dinner at squatters downtown. i had good memories of their food and especially their fish from a prior visit about a year ago. we ordered wings and calamari appetizers, buffalo burger, no frills cheese burger, ahi tacos, cod tacos, a chicken salad and beers. the appetizers and beer were good. the buffalo burger could be taken directly from the buns and used as a hockey puck. the salad did not have especially fresh ingredients. the tacos were not well prepared and the fished tasted off. to mygreatdiscredit i choked down a ahi and cod taco and so did my son - we were sharing two tacos across plates. i left the restaurant with a taste in my mouth that worsened for hours despite efforts to remove it with brushing, mouth washing etc. around midnight i dashed to the bathroom for a thunder butt purge that left me feeling better. my son made it to the morning before he evacuated the fish. and all this for $120 + tip. not a happy customer.

limited selection of beers but allgreattasting. they have about 11 draft beers. bison burger good, not big fan of bbq sauce on it, but that is just my taste. note: bison dries out real easily when cooking, don't order this well done! rare or medium rare is best. first place i have been to that lets you mix 2 types of fries. cajun are not overly spicy but have a nice flavor. steak fries were crisp but needed some more salt and pepper. greatwait staff, since my first time here took many of their recommendations.

great beer, greatnachos, greatpeanut butter pie!. i love the fat bastard oatmeal stout - chocolate and caramel smooth! i also tried the polygamy nitro which was very similar to the fbos- not as creamy. i returned a day later for another piece of peanut butter pie. wow! on my return dessert trip i had the pumpkin seasonal. so good!! if i could make it for a third time i would repeat the pumpkin!!!

i liked this place very much. it was big and well-decorated with agreatoutdoor patio. the beer was pretty solid, even in a mormon state, and the menu was large and diverse. i think i got a reuben, if i remember correctly, and rather enjoyed the fare.

neat atmosphere, but the food was just ok. i did not like the sangria, the fried pickles weregreat- very crunchy. the waitress recommended the tilapia salad and i liked the tilapia, but the other toppings were bland. the spouse got the barbecue chicken pizza - not great. the son liked the reuben.

pumped up pub. the iconic pub. as far as i'm concerned, the quality of the pub dictates the quality of the city. downtown slc has a handful of good pubs, and my favorite has always been squatters. i have nothing bad to say about any of the pubs downtown, but the most consistent quality beer and food has been at squatters.

the food is just good. it's not the kind of food that i would scream to everyone that they have to try it, but it's definitely in the top quintile of food quality. i would never be worried bringing someone from out of town to this pub. the menu is broad, giving you options from classics like fish and chips or burgers, to clever pizzas, southwestern concoctions, and even a bit of asian fusion. over the years, i've tried a lot of them so feel safe saying that if you can't find a dish to eat here, then you just don't like food.

the trump card for squatters is their beer. we have severalgreatmicrobrewed beers in slc, and squatters is definitely on the short list. my personal favorite is their viennese. for me, it's the perfectly balanced between light and dark, bitter and sweet, that i just want to fill a bathtub with and drink. i wish i could, but it's such a popular one, that often it will be sold out. not to worry though, because you have plenty of other options. other rave-able beers: the capt bastard oatmeal stout (thick and meaty, but not bitter), chasing tail (lighter and sweeter) and full suspension (unfiltered hoppiness...not for the faint of heart).

hit the spot!. recommended by hilton staff and a block across from the hotel - wasn't expecting anything other than the usual pub fare and was happily surprised. not a big fan of greasy, heavy, fried stuff - prefer the meat and veggies option. squatters' ahi spring roll salad is a full entree with four large, thick, seared rare-ish slices of tuna encased in super-light, crisp, delectable wrappers served over a huge pile of spicy arugula, pickled ginger (the good stuff, not the scary pink kind), and pickled red cabbage. usually don't eat the dressing but this was irresistible - zingy and bright. draft full suspension pale ale was fantastic, service was pretty good. sat at the bar - very friendly, happy crowd.greatfind so close to the hotel - much better option than all the tired national chains nearby.

ahhhh-hi..... we went for lunch; they were not busy at all. we were seated immediately and hadgreatservice. my husband said his food was great. i loved the ahi spring roll salad! it was all i could do to not lick the bowl. the tuna is wrapped in something and flashfried- so it is warm, but still buttery. the greens were very fresh and the ginger and wasabi flavored the salad perfectly.

i must be missing something. man, utahns love them their squatters! i really cannot see why. probly because utahns can be pretty plain and plain is exactly what you get at squatters. the food is so heavy and it seems like even the "wheat" bread on my turkey sandwich is deep fried. it's like an iggy's combined with a bar. i was told that i absolutely must try their homemade mustard and i am sorry i did. i could not taste mustard at all - it tasted like straight beer! which beer isgreatto drink, but i don't dip my fries into my beer at a normal restaurant so why would i want to dip them into beer with a small hint of mustard? yuck. as far as pubs go, something like dessert edge brewery will deliver a much more enjoyable meal.
