sizzling tandoor restaurant

exotic and flavourful - buffet is worth a try. went here with work friends and was pleasantly surprised by the squash curry. squash was cooked perfectly, with an intense tomato paste andgreatspice flavorings. spoke to the chef and he was very proud of that dish and says that it is popular and is part of their rotation. mango lassi had a bit too much rosewater in it, but was very refreshing. deco and clean bathroom is a huge plus.

right on!. i absolutely love indian food when it is prepared right and this place has left me coming back time and time again.

i usually get the vegetable paccora (sp?), naan, and dal.

the owners aregreatpeople and incredibly welcoming.

lovely food.......however. we went on a saturday evening - good smells at the door ( always a good sign ). they desperately need a seated area at the front window / door for people to wait .

first the good. food was very good - sauces very well made and complex in the tastes.
naan was outstanding as well. portions were a good size.
prices fair for well made food.

the service however leaves a lot to be desired. they have nobody to clean away tables after customers have left. it is a real turn off to eat while 4 tables adjacent to yours are left for over half an hour without being cleared.
owner was a nice man but is being severely let down by other wait staff. water or drinks where never replenished by staff ( even when asked for ). we asked for the cheque but that never came either we had to go to the desk and pay ( although i was made to wait over 5 minutes to actually pay ). there are a lot of things that upset customers and in this case the food was not it.

this restaurant hasgreatpotential, as i have said the food is very good and easily the best indian food in victoria at this time . ( i am a londoner so i know what i am saying ).
the service aspect needs to be addressed immediately if they expect repeat customers.
i hope they can sort this out as this is the only issue i could see for me to delay a second visit.

probably the best. location: easy to find. down town location.
parking: unfortunately it is going to be either parkade or street parking. free parking afterhours/weekends.
interior: small, yet clean. decoration was not overpowering/boring.
service: excellent.
food:greatfood. probably the best in victoria. naan bread was huge, crispy and delicious. butter chicken wasn't oily and they said the chicken are local fresh. apparently they have two type of spicy rating. if you want indian spicy, make sure you mention "indian" spicy.

avoid: the lamb. meat was dry and you can tell it has been refrozen a couple of times. this is quite normal because lamb meat isn't as popular as chicken, pork or beef.

i recently attended sizzling tandoor on a friday night it, we had a reservation for 7 ockock for a party of two. we stood in the door way for about 35 minutes waiting to be seated as we understood it was the friday night after a public review so we expected considerable volume. once seated we were promptly approached by the manager who thanked us for our patience and happily took drink orders as his serving staff was very busy. our food came after a tasty complimentary appetizer. i cannot say enough good things about the food. i ordered the roagan josh, a recommended dish, a mulligatawny soup which i have to say was the best i have ever had. overall the evening was a few hours long, but perfect aromas, pleasant music with non overpowering conversation around us. it was agreatdate night. i have even recommended this to my parents who are coming in from out of province. we both had our own menu appetizers, our own entree, shared cheese naan and alcoholic beverages and enough left overs for a large lunch the next day. in the end the evening cost about fifty dollars for the two of us. as we payed our bill the manager thanked us for our business and asked that to tell my friends about my expirience. i happily obliged.

great food. finally someone has filled the lack ofgreatindian food in victoria. the stuffed naan's are worth the trip alone and the rest of the food is so full of flavour.

my one piece of advice though for the owners is to change the lunch menu slightly. in comparison to the dinner menu, cut down the number of options to items that could be made slightly faster. cut down the size of the portions slightly and make it a more friendly lunch option. that means under $12, takeout friendly (slightly faster) options.

naaaaaann!.greatbuffet. i was eating the nan faster than it was making it to the table. hot fresh nan and well seasoned curries left me satisfied. chana masala was very good

good food. excellent veggies dishes. lots of nuanced flavours. buffet is good. and they are also on skip the dishes staff is friendly andgreatselection of drinks and wine

i love the lunch buffet here! delicious and agreatprice! the butter chicken is amazing as well as the pekoras! service is usually good and friendly. :)

i went to sizzling tandoor with my friends and had agreatmeal.  the service was very kind and attentive.  i had the beef vindaloo and it had nice big chunks of lean beef and agreatvindaloo sauce.  i ordered it hot and it was indeed hot, with agreatcomplexity of spice and vinegar.  my friends ordered various other curries and they're younger people who can handle spice but i think they found that mild and medium both leaned more to the "hotter" side of things.  bathrooms were clean and sanitary.  there are a lot ofgreatlooking options on the menu.  good naan and roti, delicately brushed with oil and with a good soft texture.  i'm not sure if it's my absolute favourite for indian food in victoria but it is certainly very good.  it's nice that they have a vegan menu for my vegan friends.  drinks and food all seemed appropriate in value for the level of quality.  nice atmosphere, good music, not too loud or busy.  agreatplace for a fine meal, especially with some good company!

good service,greatfood. we live the sizzling tandoor. but unfortunately last night we ordered take out and the restaurant forgot to put enough sauces in the order, not a big deal. just inconvenient as its dinner time at home and we have kids waiting. they were super awesome about it and when we ran back tto get it, they gave up an amazing extra appy with this note.greatservice. real people. i appreciate that!!

delicious.greatspicing and high quality ingredients make for a very satisfying experience. will return.

good food,greatservice. i eat the lunch buffet at both sizzling tandoor locations, and i have to say it is probably the best value in town. always a good variety of authentic indian dishes. i definitely would recommend this place to anyone. the service isgreatand so is the food.

sizzling tandoor!!. amazing food,greatservice, and good prices make sizzling tandoor one of my favourite restaurants in greater victoria. if you like indian cuisine and you havent been here you are missing out!

the lunch buffet is fantastic, good price for a lot of good food makes it the best lunch buffet around.

anothergreatmeal. had the butter chicken with naan. has to be the best butter chicken ever. good was amazing and the atmosphere was second to none. the wait staff took extra special care of our daughter allowing my wife and i to truly enjoy our meal out. will be back for sure.

amazing food. my wife and i went to the sizzling tandoor based on word of mouth coversations about howgreatthe food was here. figured if so many people said it wasgreatthat it would be a good night out! we were pleasantly suprised! not only was the food good....it was amazing. the level of spice did not take away from the flavour of the dishes. everything was served hot. every bite of the food was full of flavour. we had to wait a bit as the restaurant was swamped but very much worth the wait. would recommend this to anyone. we will definately be back!!!!
