sizzling tandoor restaurant

very disappointed in the lunch buffet, only two meat dishes , butter chicken and tandoori chicken would have expected several more meat dishes to choose from for the price would not recommend

exotic and flavourful - buffet is worth a try. went here with work friends and was pleasantly surprised by the squash curry. squash was cooked perfectly, with an intense tomato paste and great spice flavorings. spoke to the chef and he was very proud of that dish and says that it is popular and is part of their rotation. mango lassi had a bit too much rosewater in it, but was very refreshing. deco and clean bathroom is a huge plus.

best indian food in victoria hands down! amazing service and the quality is unparalleled. you definitely need to try this place!

right on!. i absolutely love indian food when it is prepared right and this place has left me coming back time and time again.

i usually get the vegetable paccora (sp?), naan, and dal.

the owners are great people and incredibly welcoming.

lovely food.......however. we went on a saturday evening - good smells at the door ( always a good sign ). they desperately need a seated area at the front window / door for people to wait .

first the good. food was very good - sauces very well made and complex in the tastes.
naan was outstanding as well. portions were a good size.
prices fair for well made food.

the service however leaves a lot to be desired. they have nobody to clean away tables after customers have left. it is a real turn off to eat while 4 tables adjacent to yours are left for over half an hour without being cleared.
owner was a nice man but is being severely let down by other wait staff. water or drinks where never replenished by staff ( even when asked for ). we asked for the cheque but that never came either we had to go to the desk and pay ( although i was made to wait over 5 minutes to actually pay ). there are a lot of things that upset customers and in this case the food was not it.

this restaurant has great potential, as i have said the food is very good and easily the best indian food in victoria at this time . ( i am a londoner so i know what i am saying ).
the service aspect needs to be addressed immediately if they expect repeat customers.
i hope they can sort this out as this is the only issue i could see for me to delay a second visit.

tasty buffet. decor leaves a bit to be desired, and the whole place only seats about 30. went for lunch with the kids. i am not generally a fan of buffet, but the food was good. the butternut curry was a revelation, and freshly cooked naans are served regularly. prices very reasonable, will definitely return.

probably the best. location: easy to find. down town location.
parking: unfortunately it is going to be either parkade or street parking. free parking afterhours/weekends.
interior: small, yet clean. decoration was not overpowering/boring.
service: excellent.
food: great food. probably the best in victoria. naan bread was huge, crispy and delicious. butter chicken wasn't oily and they said the chicken are local fresh. apparently they have two type of spicy rating. if you want indian spicy, make sure you mention "indian" spicy.

avoid: the lamb. meat was dry and you can tell it has been refrozen a couple of times. this is quite normal because lamb meat isn't as popular as chicken, pork or beef.

big menu, great food, outstanding service. order the paneer naan bread.

well, i think i have found a hidden gem. this has to have been the most exquisite east indian food in the west. flavorful,aromatic an experience for the taste buds. service could have had more of a smile, but really it is the food that counts. well done chef and kitchen crew.

a buffet that is delicious and inexpensive...can't beat it. the butter chicken is really good. it's very easy to over eat and leave with a second trimester food baby.

great indian food. this was the best indian food i have ever eaten at a restaurant. in addition, i had take-out so i can't imagine how it would have tasted if i sat there. by the way i am east indian so i am a harsh critic of indian restaurants. ingredients were fresh and authentic.

it's pretty darn good but.... i think $21.00 for butter chicken and bread is a bit much. there wasn't a lot of chicken either. three spoon full of rice.

it is very tasty, but there are a lot of tasty options in the hood.

my experience with the service has always been good.

well, there was this one time...i ordered a gin and tonic and it came as a gin and soda. gross. i actually think they would hope i wouldn't notice.

for getting take out to eat alone, no. if eating with friends. yes. that way i won't notice the missing food and high prices.

very unattentive front of house staff. seated with no menu, after 5 minutes had to walk up to the server and ask for them. took 20 minutes to get a drink on the table after we first arrived. very close to just walking out. only saving grace is the food came out quickly and was tasty. but wouldn't bother going back!

i recently attended sizzling tandoor on a friday night it, we had a reservation for 7 ockock for a party of two. we stood in the door way for about 35 minutes waiting to be seated as we understood it was the friday night after a public review so we expected considerable volume. once seated we were promptly approached by the manager who thanked us for our patience and happily took drink orders as his serving staff was very busy. our food came after a tasty complimentary appetizer. i cannot say enough good things about the food. i ordered the roagan josh, a recommended dish, a mulligatawny soup which i have to say was the best i have ever had. overall the evening was a few hours long, but perfect aromas, pleasant music with non overpowering conversation around us. it was a great date night. i have even recommended this to my parents who are coming in from out of province. we both had our own menu appetizers, our own entree, shared cheese naan and alcoholic beverages and enough left overs for a large lunch the next day. in the end the evening cost about fifty dollars for the two of us. as we payed our bill the manager thanked us for our business and asked that to tell my friends about my expirience. i happily obliged.
