what an incredible fine dining experience and well worth the drive to pretoria for!! first, let me start by mentioning that last night when i booked dinner i had completely forgotten the super rugby games on.. i tried to call and explain to the manager and ask if i could then move our booking to a later time so that my date could watch his game. i was pleasantly suprised when she laughed and advised that they have an intimate little bar/cigar lounge built upstairs with a big tv, where we can first view the rugby and then come downstairs for our dinner! what a win! i sat sipping my strawberry & ginger mojito in bliss and my date happily watched his team win in peace, and then it was dinner time. as we came downstairs, i was hit with the sound of what i thought was a beautiful ella fitzgerald record playing and to my delight, set up in a cozy corner of the restaurant was a live band. they were incredible! soothing jazzy sounds floated all over the restaurant as we were seated by anthony, at our romantic candlelit table and selected a bottle of red wine. from the onset, our waiter anthony made us feel like vips. i love the classic, white interiors and the use of light, as well as the fact that they have tried to create lots of individual 'nooks and crannies' using walls and art, to provide privacy for tables. lads - a pointer if you are trying to impress: what a romantic date spot!! now for the food: i ordered six fresh mozambican oysters, served with shallot vinaigrette garlic and red onions and pickled ginger and was not disappointed. i loved them!
as a main, it was a toss up between their fillet and pan fried norwegian salmon risotto. we ordered both so that we could share. the salmon with creamed horse radish, garlic, onions, arborio rice and white wine, finished with a saffron and parmesan cream sauce and tempura prawns was melt-in-your-mouth. i found the risotto very rich to taste, but a sublime dish and the medium-rare steak, was just as exquisite! i cannot fault presentation, portions or taste on both of these dishes.
dessert should have its own column! the baked sticky toffee pudding served with homemade ice-cream, a cherry truffle shooter, frangelico stewed fruit and butterscotch sauce! i think that the description speaks for itself and this topped off an incredibly intimate evening of food and enjoyment! the little truffles that arrived with the bill were also such a special touch! signature, brooklyn is truly an experience and one of those places for any special occasion!
