was skeptical due to previous owners but wow!!!!.shaanindian is the best indian dig in this city! i was skeptical at first given my experiences with the previous owners and food (under another name) but when speakig with an indian client of mine, he highly recommended the place for both food and service. i have been there 3 x since and each experience was phenomenal. i've had 1)non vegetarian combo which consisted of a portion each of curry lamb, curry shrimp and curry chicken, a piece of tandori chicken with sauteed onion and pepper, garlic nan these are not tiny blobs on a gradeschool lunch tray like @ baba india but very nice sized servings with 4-5 pieces of meat in each one. 2) mushroom matar, a very wonderful mix of mushrooms, peas and tomato sauce!, 3) malai kofta (best veggie balls i've ever had) and the lamb biryani. a wonderful mix of veggies, curry, lamb nuts and rasins. the food is plentiful and absolutely delicious. the service i believe is a father and son tag team. they are warm and friendly (unlike the ladies @ baba who clear plates and refill water and never smile) and stand against the wall by the kitchen door stoned faced. no slam on babas food from me, it's very good butshaanis better, a tad less expensive and when i eat there i already feel like a valued and appriciated customer. they have my loyalty now.... kudos to the front end and the kitchen!!!!!!

we went toshaanindian cuisine for my birthday today. the reason i went to this place is because so many people gave it a good review!

shaan indian buffet was not good. the foods were not well prepared and there was a lack of variety. the curries flavors tasted off, the foods were all over cooked, some of it almost tasted like it was burned. the samosas were tough and greasy, the potato filling tasted bland and like they had been over cooked and had sat too long.

service was not great either. we will not be going back!

incredible spinach dishes & more. i have never had a better saag dish than those i have enjoyed at shaan. cincinnati is fortunate to have so many wonderful places to eat indian cuisine andshaanis one of the best in the city. the staff is great and treats everyone like family. they generally have a balanced selection of vegetarian and meat dishes available for their affordable lunch buffet. if i had to make any kind of complaint whatsoever, it would be the inconsistency of the papadam they have on the buffet from monday - thursday. sometimes they are perfect, sometimes they are burnt or chewy. everything else is great!

i have been frequentingshaanfor a few years and it is my favorite indian restaurant in cincinnati and is comparable to many indian offerings in larger cities.
the owners are very friendly and greet you, especially if you frequent there. i usually go for the lunch buffet, which offer balanced vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. i have eaten there in the evenings and ordered the entrees.
one of my favorite places to eat in cincinnati...indian or not.

good - but lose the attitude.shaanhas food on par with other indian places in town. i will say the owner is friendly and welcoming but nothing really to distinguish it from other joints - the price is reasonable though.

the last time i went there with a friend of mine, i paid for both our lunches and the owner refused to initial my frequent diner card twice even though my friend made it clear that he would not be back. classic - all it takes is cheap tactics like this to eventually kill the repurtation of an otherwise decent place. suffice to say we have not been back since.

best indian food in cincy!. we've tried a couple indian restaurants in cincy. shaans food in our opinion is best. the saag lamb, pulled chicken curry ( ma...tika ...curry?), lamb vindaloo, and the garlic or onion naan are what we like most. i honestly cant go 3 weeks without my favorite foods from shaan! they have a lunch buffet as well. its good, but not as good as dinner. still well worth going. i don't think ive ever seen lamb on the buffet. there is a decent selection and they always have something for the vegetarians as well. typically my favorite things aren't on the buffet, however its still worth going and trying something different. also, this is a byob restaurant. they will happily bring you glasses for your beverage.shaanis family owned and service is usually pretty friendly. the man who is there more often than anyone is very friendly and always recognizes people who have been there before. all in all its great food for a reasonable price.

i grabbed dinner there tonight as we do most saturday nights and they were celebrating 4 years in business. i'm thrilled to have them here, as there food has become a weekly tradition in our house and the owner is one of the greatest restaurant professionals in the city. go check them out - you won't be sorry!

best of the best. i got carry out for about the 30th time tonight and have to say, this place rocks! i drive by an oakley indian restaurant to go toshaanabout every other saturday, as the owner is the friendliest man i've ever me in an indian restaurant. they now know me by name and even took my number so they could call me when my favorite dish is on the buffet. give them a try; they won't disappoint.

best customer service. we live in norwood and frequented daata because of their proximity, but daata is now closed. i will defintely drive right past baba on my way to shaan, as it has become our new favorite indian gig. cincy has a ton of great indian food, but what separatesshaanis their service (their food is fantastic too). they clearly "get it" as far as our culture goes, unlike the unfriendly service you get elsewhere.

favorite restaurant in town. this is our go-to comfort food restaurant, period. my husband and i go every other week as our payday date night. the owners know us and always greet us with a smile. we have never received anything less than excellent service here. if you've never tried indian cuisine before, dharminder will make suggestions and help you pick something you like.

my husband goes for one of two dishes each time - he orders either the lamb jogan rosh or the tandoori chicken. his test dish for any indian restaurant is the tandoori chicken. if the tandoori passes his taste test, then he will check out other dishes. he's tried a few of the other lamb dishes, but he really likes the spice combination used with the lamb rogan josh.

i'm the adventurous one and have tried most of the dishes on the menu. the saag here is my favorite in town, hands down. it's creamy, has a good spinach taste, and the saag choley is a perfect blend of the spinach and chickpea flavors. (i've tried all of the vegetarian saag dishes and can recommend all of them.) another favorite is the bindi masala. it's not your grandmother's okra, and that's why i enjoy it so much. my other veggie favorite is the bhartha. the spices used complement and accentuate the eggplant. as for the meat entrees, i'm partial to the sizzling tandoori offerings. i frequently order the chicken kebabs, but i recently tried the fish tikka and it was wonderful.

as i said in the subject line, this is our favorite restaurant in town. if i've had a bad day and need comfort food, i point my car in the direction ofshaanand know i will not be disappointed in the food or the service. dharminder and rani greet us with smiles and make sure we always leave with a smile on our faces and a bag of food to enjoy the next day.

sub-par service and an impolite owner. i don't much care for indian food, but as far as it goes the food at this place is decent. however, the service has consistently been, cold, uninviting, and downright inappropriate. at first things were subtle enough to ignore: an inattentive waiter here, or a dirty look over a reduced tip during the buffet (it's a buffet!). but things got much worse one crowded night when we were essentially ignored for ten minutes while two empty tables sat unused. we left and went to baba's instead, which sat us as soon as a booth opened up.

tonight we decided for whatever reason to giveshaananother chance. huge mistake. dinner was fine enough, but afterwards the owner awkwardly asked my girlfriend what name she went by, as she had written a review about our previous experience. on top of that when taking the bill he said thank you sir even though it was clear she was paying. this was highly inappropriate and completely unprofessional, not to mention chauvinistic. rather than redeeming his restaurant, the owner's impolite behavior has ensured we will never be eating there again.

one last thing during dinner my girlfriend noticed that her chicken tikka massala tasted just a bit off... based on the owner's behavior i don't want to know what the special ingredient was. avoid this place at all costs. go to dusmesh instead. great service and better food!

i had previously reviewedshaan...but at the time was using rob's iphone 3's camera and the pictures were ugly. also, since this review we have been back again and again and again and so i figured i would review again with some prettier pictures and more visits under my belt.

poor service, good food. i've eaten atshaanseveral times in the past. their food is really good, and at better prices than most of the other indian food in the city.
this evening, however, i was treated to such poor customer service that it would take more than delectable chicken saag to lure me back. when i entered i was surprised by the amount of diners but was relieved to see two open tables, and several diners nearing the end of their meals, and the server who almost immediately waved from the back of the restaurant, assured me that i would get a table relatively quickly.
apparently that was unfounded. after standing in the doorway waiting to be seated for ten minutes, my boyfriend made our way to the cash register to make sure it was ok for us to take one of the larger tables because all of the booths were taken. we were treated to a curt no. and an even more rude, "those tables are too big for two." that was an answer that i would have accepted had i been greeted at the door, as i had been in the past, but since i had already been ignored this affront was not to be tolerated. we left, and ate at baba instead. at least there i know i'm going to get poor service.

favorite indian in the city.shaanis my favorite indian restaurant in a city filled with great indian food. you must go for their lunch buffet. they often have unique items, such as goat, on the buffet line, and always have multiple bread types as well as classics such as masala, saag, vindaloo, and curry. you can't beat the price and the owners could not be nicer people.

this is it!. my husband and i ate atshaanfor the first time this past friday evening. i have to say, they were spot on with their preparations and taste! i was recently in india and fell in total love with their cuisine. i have been looking for an authenic indian resturant to savour those fond memories of pecurliar spices. shaan, is it!!!

we met a really nice couple and shared good conversation. they even offered to share their wine with us!

nice laid back atmosphere. great place to go after a hectic work week. ;-)

we'll definitely return soon. only downfall is, it's nowhere near colerain twp. so, it's a bit of a drive for us. but, most definitely worth it!
