was skeptical due to previous owners but wow!!!!. shaan indian is the best indian dig in this city! i was skeptical at first given my experiences with the previous owners and food (under another name) but when speakig with an indian client of mine, he highly recommended the place for both food and service. i have been there 3 x since and each experience was phenomenal. i've had 1)non vegetarian combo which consisted of a portion each of curry lamb, curry shrimp and curry chicken, a piece of tandori chicken with sauteed onion and pepper, garlic nan these are not tiny blobs on a gradeschool lunch tray like @ baba india but very nice sized servings with 4-5 pieces of meat in each one. 2) mushroom matar, a very wonderful mix of mushrooms, peas and tomato sauce!, 3) malai kofta (best veggie balls i've ever had) and the lamb biryani. a wonderful mix of veggies, curry, lamb nuts and rasins. the food is plentiful and absolutely delicious. the service i believe is a father and son tag team. they are warm and friendly (unlike the ladies @ baba who clear plates and refill water and never smile) and stand against the wall by the kitchen door stoned faced. no slam on babas food from me, it's verygoodbut shaan is better, a tad less expensive and when i eat there i already feel like a valued and appriciated customer. they have my loyalty now.... kudos to the front end and the kitchen!!!!!!

we went to shaan indian cuisine for my birthday today. the reason i went to this place is because so many people gave it agoodreview!

shaan indian buffet was not good. the foods were not well prepared and there was a lack of variety. the curries flavors tasted off, the foods were all over cooked, some of it almost tasted like it was burned. the samosas were tough and greasy, the potato filling tasted bland and like they had been over cooked and had sat too long.

service was not great either. we will not be going back!

hidden gem. i have driven by this place in hyde park plaza countless times and not even realized that it was a restaurant. upon recommendation from my father-in-law, me, my wife and her mother all went this last friday night. it was not busy, but had agoodnumber of people there. the service was friendly and done well. the food made me happy and delighted. it was sooooo good! i also love the byob aspect, though i felt a little weird bringing in my own bottle of homebrew to a restaurant having never been to a byob place before. overall i love this place after just one visit. i am sure i will be back again and again.

best indian food in cincy!. we've tried a couple indian restaurants in cincy. shaans food in our opinion is best. the saag lamb, pulled chicken curry ( ma...tika ...curry?), lamb vindaloo, and the garlic or onion naan are what we like most. i honestly cant go 3 weeks without my favorite foods from shaan! they have a lunch buffet as well. its good, but not asgoodas dinner. still well worth going. i don't think ive ever seen lamb on the buffet. there is a decent selection and they always have something for the vegetarians as well. typically my favorite things aren't on the buffet, however its still worth going and trying something different. also, this is a byob restaurant. they will happily bring you glasses for your beverage. shaan is family owned and service is usually pretty friendly. the man who is there more often than anyone is very friendly and always recognizes people who have been there before. all in all its great food for a reasonable price.

shaan is a medium sized place with almost no decor to speak of, but the food is sogoodthat if the walls were just blank white, it would be ok. the service was impeccable and the menu was huge. i was not surprised to see diners pouring in around 7:30 and there was a waiting area in a vestibule for their peak hours which probably gets used a lot. one other thing which was remarkable about shaan, their sense of timing was spot on. they knew when to serve and when to leave you to your own devices. you could tell that they were experienced at making guests feel unrushed but tended-to.

favorite restaurant in town. this is our go-to comfort food restaurant, period. my husband and i go every other week as our payday date night. the owners know us and always greet us with a smile. we have never received anything less than excellent service here. if you've never tried indian cuisine before, dharminder will make suggestions and help you pick something you like.

my husband goes for one of two dishes each time - he orders either the lamb jogan rosh or the tandoori chicken. his test dish for any indian restaurant is the tandoori chicken. if the tandoori passes his taste test, then he will check out other dishes. he's tried a few of the other lamb dishes, but he really likes the spice combination used with the lamb rogan josh.

i'm the adventurous one and have tried most of the dishes on the menu. the saag here is my favorite in town, hands down. it's creamy, has agoodspinach taste, and the saag choley is a perfect blend of the spinach and chickpea flavors. (i've tried all of the vegetarian saag dishes and can recommend all of them.) another favorite is the bindi masala. it's not your grandmother's okra, and that's why i enjoy it so much. my other veggie favorite is the bhartha. the spices used complement and accentuate the eggplant. as for the meat entrees, i'm partial to the sizzling tandoori offerings. i frequently order the chicken kebabs, but i recently tried the fish tikka and it was wonderful.

as i said in the subject line, this is our favorite restaurant in town. if i've had a bad day and need comfort food, i point my car in the direction of shaan and know i will not be disappointed in the food or the service. dharminder and rani greet us with smiles and make sure we always leave with a smile on our faces and a bag of food to enjoy the next day.

poor service, goodfood. i've eaten at shaan several times in the past. their food is really good, and at better prices than most of the other indian food in the city.
this evening, however, i was treated to such poor customer service that it would take more than delectable chicken saag to lure me back. when i entered i was surprised by the amount of diners but was relieved to see two open tables, and several diners nearing the end of their meals, and the server who almost immediately waved from the back of the restaurant, assured me that i would get a table relatively quickly.
apparently that was unfounded. after standing in the doorway waiting to be seated for ten minutes, my boyfriend made our way to the cash register to make sure it was ok for us to take one of the larger tables because all of the booths were taken. we were treated to a curt no. and an even more rude, "those tables are too big for two." that was an answer that i would have accepted had i been greeted at the door, as i had been in the past, but since i had already been ignored this affront was not to be tolerated. we left, and ate at baba instead. at least there i know i'm going to get poor service.

this is it!. my husband and i ate at shaan for the first time this past friday evening. i have to say, they were spot on with their preparations and taste! i was recently in india and fell in total love with their cuisine. i have been looking for an authenic indian resturant to savour those fond memories of pecurliar spices. shaan, is it!!!

we met a really nice couple and sharedgoodconversation. they even offered to share their wine with us!

nice laid back atmosphere. great place to go after a hectic work week. ;-)

we'll definitely return soon. only downfall is, it's nowhere near colerain twp. so, it's a bit of a drive for us. but, most definitely worth it!

delicious northern indian cuisine. we ate at shaan today for the first time today and we will definitely be coming back! this is one of the best indian buffets in the cincinnati area. their saag paneer was creamy with a perfect blend of spice the paneer cheese was extremely fresh. they also had chicken vindaloo which you don't find very often on indian buffets and it was outstanding! it was very tangy and had a nice heat level. my son said it almost reminded him of indian style buffalo chicken. they also had a number of other outstanding items on the buffet including choley, punjabi curry , chicken makhani and goat curry! the owner and staff were also very friendly and attentive. i would recommend this restaraunt for anyone cravinggoodnorthern indian cuisine.

pc. ah, indian food. there's probably no one cuisine i crave more. throughout our relationship, it's been my goal to make the better half like indian food. so far, i've been pretty successful. i make tandoori-style chicken at home, and he has actually said to me, "hey, can we get indian today" this is a huge improvement from our early days, when he'd barely walk down ludlow avenue. so now we get to figure out what the best indian in town is- a fun task. shaan india has been recommended to me by several people, particularly @ameetchimote, who swears it's his favorite in town (and almost asgoodas his own indian cooking). high praise. so one sunday, we headed over to oakley to try it out. shaan is in hyde park plaza, on the opposite side from kroger. it's strip-mall chic on the outside, but the inside is comfortable and warm. the owner will greet you at the door

highly recommended. i just discovered shaan and it is now my favorite indian! we've eaten here at least five times since they've opened and have had a great meal every time. consistentlygoodfood with quality ingredients served in a friendly atmosphere. we used to love baba down the street, but shaan has taken it's place, and the owners are friendlier too!!! if you like indian you'll love shaan.
